I really love the way you describe your reading experience. You have a great down to earth personality. I also like that these are books I haven't really heard of. You're really different from other Booktubers and I like you a lot. New Subscriber here.
Omg i laughed like hell during this video 😂 you are soo funny and your reactions to the books were so accurate and brutal . Oh god i loved it . Best video 👍👏
I’m so glad I watched this...I can totally see myself feeling the same based on your commentary for some of these books. I’ve read 4 of the books from this list and although I didn’t dislike the books as much as you did, I totally can relate and agree with you. Love your videos and honest/candid commentary !
same bestiee !! i really loved libby and damnn everything in that book was so damnn relatable....holding up the universe will always stay close to my heart....yet i gave it just 3.5 stars....or maybe four? Its true that the characters lacked chemistry but the theme of the book was pretty cool..AND AHHH I LOVE DUSTY
I think a lot of the problems in modern books is many unlikeable, unrelatable or entirely undeveloped characters and following a lot of storyline cliches.
These videos are so much fun to watch. I didn't hate Forever, Interrupted but I definitely think it's the weakest of Jenkin-Reid's books. The other ones are SO much better.
I seriously dont know any of the books u mentioned besides Holding up the universe but I kept watching just because of your expressions, the sass and your hatred towards these books. 😂😂😂😂 Awesome review.. 10/10
I’m definitely not reading any of these books 🙈😂 but can u advise me what Book of Alessandra Torre I should read? I’ve never read any book by her before
hahaha that's probably a good idea! And the only two other books I've read from her are Moonshot and Love Sex Repeat, Moonshot was like a 3/5 for me and Love Sex Repeat was like 3.5 but I enjoyed them a lot more than the Ghostwriter lol. Her series The Girl in Room 6E is pretty popular but I haven't read it yet!
Books et Bouquins: Her other books are great... “Tight” is great and really well written. “Black Lies” is also a great book from Alessandra Torre. Hollywood Dirt is probably her most popular book. I recommend all three books. I agree that Ghostwriter was not up to par with her other books.
I totally enjoyed this video! You really made me crack up. :) Love how you keep it all the way real! Sweet Thing by Renee Carlino was a massive disappointment for me. I love her books so much, but I couldn't finish Sweet Thing. I'm probably not going to read Wish You Were Here. I'll just reread all of her other books. :)
thank you!!! yeah lately some of Renee Carlino's books have disappointed me ): I didn't love Swear On this Life either. The only one of hers I have LOVED is Before We Were Strangers!
Wonderful commentary. I was a very avid reader my whole life, and I found no book really ever lives up to expectations, they're all always cliche. Write your own. God bless you
"I'm just me" HAHAHAHAH OMG you killed me with that, this video was amazing!!! My most disappointed book this year was Romeo & Juliet omg I'm still so angry since I just finished a couple of hours ago.
I respectfully disagree with your take on The Wife Between Us. I think there were many twists and turns throughout the book and think the various twists were great and added a lot to the story. Also, the mind games played by both Richard and Vanessa made the book very intense and exciting to go through.
I know right. I don't know why people are hating it. Even though I've read the books with the same trope, this still had me tucked in because of the plot twists back to back.
new drinking game : do a shot every time Gabby drops the F-bomb in this video. wait, we needs correction : just take a lil bitty sip when shee drops da F-bomb. yesssh! ats-ah-way ... Uuuuuuuu tell'em (x..X) Just kidding :) I love how passionate you are! & nothing but respect for your thoughts & opinions. ♥u For me, the worst book is a toss up between Outriders by Jay Posey (GR 3.86 stars / 777 reviews). I read up to page 224 & realized nothing was happening, and I didn't give a shit about any of the characters. Or Dora : a Headcase by Lidia Yuknavitch. after the 5th or 6th time she described something as "retarded", I just put the book down (3.62 stars on GR / 1752 reviews). I actually don't mind if the Author does not use "quotation marks". After a couple pages, I don't even notice. I am weird like that.
when she said "what the fuck happened with Vanessa and Richard" did anyone else think of that vine where he throws the frisbee into traffic and his friend is like "what the fuck Richard".
“Get off your high horse, you’re a waitress!!” This entire video had me cracking up. So much emotion and passion in your reviews. You hated this entire list of books and got more and more heated after each one. I’m sorry, but you were cracking me up. I’m surprised about a few of them since the authors mentioned have previously written. You just save my wallet, thank you. 🤣🤣
I agree with that! This tropes is so common and If the characters communicated there would't be so many issues and that is the point, the lack of communication lets the author have a story
Some of my most hated books that I read this year : Until November, The Wall of Winnipeg and me, Ink & lies, I had high expectations after all the positive reviews but I felt that they were a waste of time... not worth reading
damn the Wall of Winnipeg And Me isn't good? That book has been on my TBR for a while now haha, what didn't you like about it? I may have to avoid it now lol
I had high expectations for The Wife Between Us too. I won a copy from Netgalley. Read a couple of pages on my phone and never opened that shit back up again. Thanks for the review Gabby and I don't see how ppl found it to be that good
A Thousand Letters reminds me a lot of Dear John (I think it was written by Nicholas Sparks) but I find Dear John to be better than A Thousand Letters.
The third book in the Diviners series was a disappointing...gave it two stars. The author used attempted rape to wrap up a love triangle then few chapters later the character is having sex like there was no repercussion from being almost raped....uh nope. I'm not picking up the last book. 2018 we still haven't learned
the way you described forever interrupted reminds me of history is all you left me by adam silvera. it's such an awesome book that deals with grief. (no cheesy romance).
This is so crazy and random, but you may not remember me. I used to work with you at Chipotle (either that or you have a doppelganger who used to work there). This is Miranda. I was just watching booktube videos and had no idea it was you until it started. It's a small world, but I guess it's a small internet too. Dig the videos though. 8]
OMG MIRANDA HEY!!! Thanks! Wow it is a small world haha, are you starting a booktube channel? You totally should! How are you? Are you still at Chipotle? :)
Nah, I'm at Target now. And this is kind of my booktube channel. I play games on it too though, so it's kind of half and half. I've had it for about a year now. When did you start your channel?
Wow that's so awesome I was literally just at target earlier today haha! :) And wow that's so cool. I've had my channel since feb 2015, so it's been almost three years now! Crazy.
reading holding up the universe rn and im so glad that someone agrees that the book is so boring? i havent read a book since HS and i picked this up because its apparently a “best seller” but im severely disappointed
I love these videos. I like it when booktubers and youtubers in general are real about stuff, especially the negative side of things. No offense to anybody, but it feels like 80% of people on here are super over excited, chipper, happy, loves everything, and I'm sitting here like... I can't do that. How do they DO that? Don't get me wrong, I like some of these overly happy people, I just don't quite get it personally. I never heard of any of these books before! If the lack of quotations bothered you in Next Year For Sure, The Road by Cormac McCarthy would be hard to get into! It has no quotations as well. I guess it is his writing(art) style?? I finally got into the flow of it and ended up liking it, but I saw his other books are like that, too and I don't feel bothered to try them. I'll probably never re-read The Road, either. Give it a try. He might do the no quotation things better than Zoey Leigh Peterson, who knows. :) My worst books of this year were: Let it Snow (Overall, I gave it a 2 star, but I was being nice, I think.) "The Jubilee Express" by Maureen Johnson 3/5 star rating. I liked it the most out of the 3. It was hallmark cute, but meh. --- "A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle" by John Green. It just got much worse from the first story. I hated this one. I don't have much experience with John Green, but I can't believe he wrote this. 1/5 star rating. --- "The Patron Saint of Pigs" by Lauren Myracle. Pretty meh about it to be honest. It was okay, but just okay. 2.5/5 star rating. *** Forever by Judy Blume - 1 star, but would give 0 stars if Goodreads let me. I understand why this book may have been important for the time period it was written in, but I still think the relationship in the book was toxic and should not have been anyone's reference guide to love and relationships. Just didn't like it at all. There were other things that I wasn't a fan of, but I don't want to get into spoiler territory. I have fondness for Judy. I read a lot of her children books as a kid, so not liking this makes me feel bad. *** The new Beauty & The Beast manga (Belle's Tale/The Beast's Tale) - Both got a 2 star. I just could not get into it. Maybe because it is a story we are told over and over again. I wish they would have changed the story a little. It doesn't always have to be word for word like the Disney movie. Be original. I will say that the artwork was really cute, but I am not very picky with artwork when there is a good story. This story was just meh. I was bored. Also worst... I DNF'd The Bermudez Triangle by Maureen Johnson. (1 star/0 stars!) - Big ugh for that book! I tried and DNF'd it two times! I DNF'd The Walled City, too. Didn't care for it. (Didn't rate this one. I only rate some DNF's.) Also The Night Circus. I wouldn't call it the worst, I just couldn't get into at the time. (No rating. I might try it again.) Overall, I think my year was pretty good, but I am easily pleased for the most part.
yeah I agree! I actually did read The Road, I was required to read it for one of my college English classes haha, i didn't care for it very much! /: I haven't heard of any of these other books!
Ive only read 1 Taylor Jenkins Reid book The 7 husbands of Evelyn Hugo. So if this book goes the same way with the "true love" dying and going back to what led to that im good on reading it.
I didn’t like saga 🙈 I was so exited about reading it, as everyone loves it but I just didn’t care about the characters at all. Holding up the Universe is actually one of the books I’ve really wanted to get to this year 😂 I might still read it to see how I would like it, but that scene sounds horrible...
well this is a rant video so I'm not sure what you expected, I cuss more when I'm upset. If you have a problem with cussing I wouldn't recommend watching my videos.
i was disappointed by the book Kill All Happies which i have a full 30 minute rant on my channel (because i'm super extra) because the cover was beautiful and I heard so much hype from everyone, all the big booktubers were sponsored by it and I was so excited to read it and when I got it, it was so pandering and weird and trying to be cool and it just wasn't. All the characters sucked and nothing they did made any sense.
wow you do have unpopular opinions; not that I've read most of these, but I'm looking at the average rating on Goodreads and all these books are loved lol
+gabbyreads before u avoid this book shouldn't u look at more reviews and people's opinion on this. I haven't read but I been reading your response comments and I see u are avoiding quite a few book(nothing against you, if u have one of those reading personalities I find in some people. Like u 'like' reading BUT u do have a preference in being a person who expects more from a book if it rating very good and meets alot of people's expections of reading?) So shouldn't u look into this book before avoiding it, it may or may not be good, but I know u will only know from either looking it up or actually reading it. I am sorry if this does offend u by any means, I don't mean it to. I usually don't comment on RUclips, I just watch but this did get to me since I do love reading.
well of course if it was something I was actually interested in reading I would check out several reviews and if I really did want to read it, I would just read it for myself. I've never even heard of this book mentioned in this particular comment haha, so I wasn't planning on reading it anyway. I am open-minded to everyone's opinions on books and I definitely read many reviews before I decide if I want to read a book or not.
I know this review is old, but I was just read The Ghost Writer and hated it! I was looking all over RUclips for someone else who reviewed it to get their opinion.
The worst book i've read has to be Summer of the Swans i was forced to read this book for school and i HATED this book it was litterily about a girl who's disabled brother gets lost and THAT'S IT the "plot twist" of the story was that a boy who the protaginist thought stole her brother's watch didn't steal the watch
i didnt enjoy holding up the universe either, but i have to disagree with you when you say we don't know anything about Libby. we do know some of her interests, but yes, it's not that descriptive.
I know but I just mean she doesn't talk about anything else as much as she talks about her weight. That's the only thing I remember about her character because of how much she talked about it
Most of the books of the video are Romance-themed... Christ, can't use the Romance right! Most of the books of the video are written by Best-selling author... Why are best-selling books bad? Underrated books hide good stories... What hapenned to them?
I love your reviews because I’ve always wanted to make video reviews on books but I’m so fucking rude!! Hahahah I would drop f bombs and b words all damn day and I’m like, no one would watch me lol but thank you for your reviews, shit is funny as fuck.
*OMG you're so freaking hilarious!!!!! I was laughing the whole video* . I so relate to you though, you're just tired of how stupid these characters and plots are,and you're so done with these books 📚 .
gabbyreads it announced on the variety website awhile back. variety.com/2014/film/news/fifty-shades-of-grey-star-dakota-johnson-on-forever-interrupted-1201260789/
"the writing was like anna todd" HAHAHA ROAST HER
lmao! :)
I freaking loved your responses to all these books because that's exactly how I react to books I hate 😂
haha thanks!!! :)
If I was at a concert and the main singer pointed to me saying "YOU" and whispers in my ear "come to my trailer, let's fuck" I would be creeped out
lmao SAME
"Which should be fucking lit, but it's not." Legitimately laughed out loud.
I really love the way you describe your reading experience. You have a great down to earth personality. I also like that these are books I haven't really heard of. You're really different from other Booktubers and I like you a lot. New Subscriber here.
aw thank you so much! I really appreciate that! :)
gabbyreads And with thousands of Subs, you still reply to comments. ❤

‘Get the fuck off your high horse you’re a waitress’ 😂
This is why I follow you.. cause you're real af !!
haha thanks!
Omg i laughed like hell during this video 😂 you are soo funny and your reactions to the books were so accurate and brutal . Oh god i loved it . Best video 👍👏
aw thank you! :)
I loooove these videos... almost more than favourites xD thanks for the rants! :D
haha thanks! :)
I’m so glad I watched this...I can totally see myself feeling the same based on your commentary for some of these books. I’ve read 4 of the books from this list and although I didn’t dislike the books as much as you did, I totally can relate and agree with you. Love your videos and honest/candid commentary !
thank you!! :)
This is probably my favorite BookTube video of 2017. Also, your comments on We Own Tonight made my night. Thank you. 💗
haha omg thank you!!! :)
Most of you guys won't agree with me on this, but I liked Holding Up The Universe.
Anyway your videos are awesome Gabby 👍
same bestiee !! i really loved libby and damnn everything in that book was so damnn relatable....holding up the universe will always stay close to my heart....yet i gave it just 3.5 stars....or maybe four? my God just discovered you and im loving ur sass over these books!
I love this video so much lol I giggled through most of it! So great! I am now going to go binge all your other videos :) thanks for being awesome!
omg thank you! :) I appreciate it!
I HATED “The Wife Between Us”. It was a mess. Throw all the over done thriller tropes in one book and bam! You have this crap.
Ugh sameeeee. /:
I laughed so hard hahahaha! You're the best critique. New sub here, been binge watching your vids.
Honestly these are my favorites of your videos. Tell it like it is honey boo 👏👏
haha thank you! You know I will :)
I love how passionate you are about how disappointing these are bc now I actually want to buy all of them just to get pissed about how bad they are 😂😂
lmao!!!
I think a lot of the problems in modern books is many unlikeable, unrelatable or entirely undeveloped characters and following a lot of storyline cliches.
I'm so glad this popped up as recommended for me. "The cabin ends up being a little bit haunted" 😂😂😂
These videos are so much fun to watch. I didn't hate Forever, Interrupted but I definitely think it's the weakest of Jenkin-Reid's books. The other ones are SO much better.
thanks! And yeah I agree, it's definitely the weakest story of hers!
Current reading The wife between us and I'm glad someone else is as frustrated with this book as I am.
I seriously dont know any of the books u mentioned besides Holding up the universe but I kept watching just because of your expressions, the sass and your hatred towards these books. 😂😂😂😂 Awesome review.. 10/10

I think this is the first video of yours that I'm seeing (though your username looks familiar?) and I'm definitely subscribing! Great video!
aw thank you so much! i appreciate it! :)

My most disappointed book this year was Romeo & Juliet omg I'm still so angry since I just finished a couple of hours ago.
haha thank you! And yeah I agree about Romeo & Juliet lol
This video was so entertaining! 😂 I was disappointed by quite a few popular books this year 🙈

I know right. I don't know why people are hating it. Even though I've read the books with the same trope, this still had me tucked in because of the plot twists back to back.
omg i died laughing when you were talking about the book called "we own tonight"
ARE YOU READY FOR IT? I'm ready for worst books of the year vids!
haha! :)
new drinking game : do a shot every time Gabby drops the F-bomb in this video.
wait, we needs correction : just take a lil bitty sip when shee drops da F-bomb.

gabbyreads You should give it a try. I think you'll like it.
I love when you don't like a book because you explain why so well.
haha thanks! :)
I had high expectations for The Wife Between Us too. I won a copy from Netgalley. Read a couple of pages on my phone and never opened that shit back up again. Thanks for the review Gabby and I don't see how ppl found it to be that good
same!! /:

that's awesome! And omg thank you! :) I appreciate it! I subscribed to your channel too!
I'm currently reading a thousand letters and omg you literally stole the words out of my mouth
right? That book is ridiculous lmao
So Broken Bay was more like Bridesmaids meets the Hangover?
haha yes! But not funny at all lmao
gabbyreads damn, that could have been so great.
You make me laugh on your rants...one positive about TJR is it was her debut so she’s improved since then ⭐️
haha thanks! and yeah that's true!
Most Book tube popular books are not my thing.
same recently! haha
reading holding up the universe rn and im so glad that someone agrees that the book is so boring? i havent read a book since HS and i picked this up because its apparently a “best seller” but im severely disappointed

"The Jubilee Express" by Maureen Johnson 3/5 star rating.
I liked it the most out of the 3. It was hallmark cute, but meh.

"A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle" by John Green.
It just got much worse from the first story. I hated this one. I don't have much experience with John Green, but I can't believe he wrote this. 1/5 star rating.
---
"The Patron Saint of Pigs" by Lauren Myracle.
Pretty meh about it to be honest. It was okay, but just okay. 2.5/5 star rating.

Forever by Judy Blume - 1 star, but would give 0 stars if Goodreads let me.

The new Beauty & The Beast manga (Belle's Tale/The Beast's Tale) - Both got a 2 star. I just could not get into it. Maybe because it is a story we are told over and over again. Overall, I think my year was pretty good, but I am easily pleased for the most part.
yeah I agree! I actually did read The Road, I was required to read it for one of my college English classes haha, i didn't care for it very much! /: I haven't heard of any of these other books!
This was good entertainment!!! Thank you!!! :)
haha thanks for watching! :)
Love the honesty of your reviews..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ive only read 1 Taylor Jenkins Reid book The 7 husbands of Evelyn Hugo. So if this book goes the same way with the "true love" dying and going back to what led to that im good on reading it.
The seven husbands of evelyn hugo was my favorite read of 2017! :)
Yaaay lemme get some tea and get comfy before I watch this video :D
hahaha yaaass! :)
Omg girl you are SO fucking funny. Loved loved loved this. Iconic ❤️
hahaha thank you! :)
No prude here, but it gets tiring hearing "fuck" every couple minutes; you'd think as a reader you could articulate yourself better.
well this is a rant video so I'm not sure what you expected, I cuss more when I'm upset. If you have a problem with cussing I wouldn't recommend watching my videos.
If I had to boot one book off your list, it would be *The Wife Between Us*
Favorite booktuber ever :D
aw thank you! :)
I totally agree with you about The wife between us.
i was disappointed by the book Kill All Happies which i have a full 30 minute rant on my channel (because i'm super extra) because the cover was beautiful and I heard so much hype from everyone, all the big booktubers were sponsored by it and I was so excited to read it and when I got it, it was so pandering and weird and trying to be cool and it just wasn't. All the characters sucked and nothing they did made any sense.
that sucks! It's fun to rant sometimes though :)
yeah it felt good to let it all out
Noo.. I just got the wife between us by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen
aw, maybe you'll enjoy it more than i did? Who knows haha
Amazing video!!
thanks!
We Own The night sounds like a bad 1D fic that somehow gets on the front page of wattpad
lol it is!
No wonder “The Wife Between Us” is $5 online...thanks
I totally agree with you on A Thousand Letters I stopped reading after two chapters.
right? I should've stopped hahaha
i'm sorry but holding up the universe is *the best book EVER* :)
I thought i was the only one who didn't like The Ghostwriter ... it just wasn't what i expected.
thanks!!!!😁
wow you do have unpopular opinions; not that I've read most of these, but I'm looking at the average rating on Goodreads and all these books are loved lol
lol yep! I have no idea why lmao
watching other people rant so passionately makes me feel like less of a shitty person for whenever i’m angry lmao
lmao same!
I didn't like sixteenth summer I tried three times to get into that and I just couldn't do it so I gave up
I haven't heard of it but I'll be sure to avoid it lol :)
Omg the Renee Carlino cover is so pretty though 😩
I know this review is old, but I was just read The Ghost Writer and hated it! I was looking all over RUclips for someone else who reviewed it to get their opinion.
... but its NOT! I love this comment. Love your vids and I love your glasses!
I thought I was the only one invested in finding characters annoying 😅😅😅😅😅
Cant wait for watching your Best 2017 books
I can't wait to film it!!! :)
The worst book i've read has to be Summer of the Swans i was forced to read this book for school and i HATED this book it was litterily about a girl who's disabled brother gets lost and THAT'S IT the "plot twist" of the story was that a boy who the protaginist thought stole her brother's watch didn't steal the watch
wow that's crazy haha!
HHAHAHAHA LOVE YOUR SASS 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
thanks :)
right on!!!!!
Ok girl 😂
i didnt enjoy holding up the universe either, but i have to disagree with you when you say we don't know anything about Libby. we do know some of her interests, but yes, it's not that descriptive.
I know but I just mean she doesn't talk about anything else as much as she talks about her weight. That's the only thing I remember about her character because of how much she talked about it
We know her favourite book, that she likes dancing. not much i know, but its still something
I love videos like these! lol
thanks! :)
Most of the books of the video are Romance-themed...
Christ, can't use the Romance right!
Most of the books of the video are written by Best-selling author...
Why are best-selling books bad? Underrated books hide good stories... What hapenned to them?
I know it's crazy /:
Omg yess I read Holding Up the Universe too XD the characters didn't feel like real people so the book felt like a waste of time.
I love this video!
gabby i was very dissappointed by the book "the fall".noring to me.👎
Definitely Wish You Were Here it was sooo bad!!!!
seriously! I don't understand the high ratings at all
Tell us how you really feel lol
I feel you on Holding up the universe the ending was so stupid. I was like really this is what I get?
I love how she didn't spoiled
I like this channel....Its Real and Fucking cool
You really read over a 100 books a year ? 😳😳 that’s a lot of books. Your brain must be like a dictionary now
yep haha and idk if I would say that haha :)
I lol so loud watching this video! You are hilarious.
I love your reviews because I’ve always wanted to make video reviews on books but I’m so fucking rude!! Hahahah I would drop f bombs and b words all damn day and I’m like, no one would watch me lol but thank you for your reviews, shit is funny as fuck.
haha thank you! and it's amazing to be brutally honest, you should go for it!!
*OMG you're so freaking hilarious!!!!! I was laughing the whole video* .
I so relate to you though, you're just tired of how stupid these characters and plots are,and you're so done with these books 📚 .
hahaha thanks! :)
gabbyreads You're welcome
You remind me Hailee Steinfeld, and it's like watching Hailee roast on books. Basically I'm entetained. Subbed 😊
haha thank you! I've heard that a couple of times haha it's crazy
Wish I watched this before I read the wife between us.
Wow! I was hoping to read forever, interrupted. I heard they are turning that into a movie and Dakota Johnson is going to star in it.
It might just be me lol everyone else seems to love it! And no way! Are you serious? That would be crazy!
