Monster In A Box Tutorial

- This is a pretty commonly made prop so there are lots of tutorials out on how to make it that go into further detail than I did in this one, but I wanted to show what went into making mine. As always, I've tried to add my own twist to the design and not just make a carbon copy of someone else's. To keep it simple my motor, speakers, and lights all share the same 12v power supply. I added a simple PIR motion detector between the power supply and the 3-way splitter that goes to the motor, speakers and lights. The MP3 player just plays a constant loop of the audio, but you can't hear it until the speakers are triggered. Doing it this way keeps things simple and easy to replace if something fails. This is a pretty simple build, but as I found out, sometimes the easy ones are the ones that give you the most headaches. I'll add a link to the PIR sensor and to a parts list below here. Keep in mind that the parts I used may not be exactly what you need for yours, but should give you a general idea what went into it.

Wow! That is so cool! Very nice work
C'est super génial 🎉mon voisin l'a reproduit avec un loup garou, l'effet est superbe ! Merci beaucoup pour votre tutoriel 🎃
THIS IS AWESOME I LOVE THE PAINT JOB JOB.
Oh Now That Good . Strong and fast violently shaking. Manufacturers dont even make them that realistic. Great job. Realy looks like hes had enough and wants the Hell Out Of The Box..I'm not food with anything that has to do with wiring and motors and pulleys and gears. I'm good at carpentry , wierd right , I can build a house from the ground up to roof . But cant figure out little shit like electronics and motors
And I'm just the opposite. Can't do carpentry or automotive, but I can make all kinds of weird, wild props and gadgets. lol
Awesome effect, man. Tons of applications for this one.
Wow, this is insanely bad ass!!! The monster peeking is what sells it for me!!! Thank you for sharing. I’m building one of these, lol
It looks like you have two cams cut in two different patterns. One sitting next to a saw and the other mounted. If that is correct, which one did you end up using?
Been a while. I remember one tended to get hung up a lot so I made another with more angled teeth that slip out from under the lid better. I actually have plans to make one from plastic to further lighten the load on the motor and improve operation.
@@OakLaneCemetery so you did end up using a second cam (second pattern), that one being the one that’s pictured mounted in one of the final pictures, correct?
I believe so. Like I said, it's been a while and I've had it stored for almost 2 years now and have not yet use it.
Always a classic, love it. Heck of a job on the texture and painting of the box it self.
This turned out to be a great project.
Nice work. It doesn't look like a plywood box at all !
always love this prop. Very good job with it.
What was the size of the cam before you cut it?
Beats me. I just eyeballed it. Around 6 inches if I had to guess.
You don’t still happen to have this where you can measure it?
It's still buried under some totes and boxes in my workshop. I've never even had the chance to put it to use yet since covid arrived and we changed how we do things. Built it, then stored it away for future use.
It turned out great!!
Luv it 😁
Very cool.
Where did you get the motion sensor?
I found it on Amazon. It's a bit twitchy and very touchy to set, but it works. This is the one I used... amzn.to/32KIPrm
