I think you meant it’s 440c stainless hardened to *insert number* Rockwell…somewhere in the upper 50s, I’m assuming. 44 Rockwell would probably deform the first time you used it on 8x tippet lol.
Apart from the Simms tippet threading slot which is a new one on me they are all over priced junk for tackle tarts. Still using the same nippers I brought over twenty years ago and I fish 200 days a year, my secret? One sheet of 800grit wet and dry paper. Nippers get dull, put the paper on a flat surface, I use a piece of glass, place the flat side where you do your nipping against the paper rub for less than a minute and they are good to go again.
Actually a 44 Rockwell hardness is on the lower end of steel hardness. At that degree of hardness the cutting edges will get dull sooner than if say the Rockwell hardness was in the mid 50's. Once the hardness level gets past 55 Rc the steel gets quite brittle and can chip the edges easier and it is much harder for the average guy to sharpen.
Bought these and wish I could return them. As nippers they’re ok. They cut tippet. The magnet ‘spring’ attaches to everything on my vest. Really annoying. That tippet threading grove is great at the desk. On the water is a completely different story. If the hook eye is not completely visible to begin with (like no hackle or thread) and you’re using tippet that’s less than straight and add in a little wind and well good luck. The hook eye cleaner is not pointy enough to clean small hooks and in a location that is not easy to use if it’s on a zinger or lanyard. Of course it’s gonna be, it’s 80 bucks! Yes in the comfort of your house it’s great. On the water not so much. If I could return I would. eBay.
Anything labeled PRO .... all you need to know .... People Run Out The Dr Slick nipper with a slanted edge are my go to favorite design. I generally buy a new pair every couple years although I have several from further back that still work just fine. I’ve had Orvis, Abel, Simms, C&F, Loon, probably a half dozen others that I’ve forgotten....but Dr Slick are my consistent favorites.... for trout / fine tippet. A tippet threader can be purchased for about $12 and even less for the knockoff brands. I like the idea but not for $80.... maybe Dr Slick could create a similar gimmick for $10 more. I’d pay $25 if it came with a Dr Slick slanted nipper !
I wish i had seen this BEFORE June!! We came there from GA!! No plans on returning...😢

Hatch……
You need to be very rich and/or very dumb to spend that money on a nipper :)
