  • What should be the role of the central bank in times of financial turbulence? The inflation target should remain the primary concern, and macroprudential policy tools can be used to address financial stability concerns. The focus should be on how to align the various pieces of policymaking. At the same time, central banks should also look at NBFI challenges, and not be sidelined by issues in the banking sector.

Monetary policy at the Bank of England simply means increasing interest rates at the stroke of the keyboard which, flatly contributes to overall inflation instantly by raising the cost of borrowing. Lord Mervyn King agreed with this line of thinking during one of his talks in Bahrain a few years ago even though he was in the same chair previously.
The man in the street, already taxed out of sight, pays the price being ripped off by the energy companies et al.
Added to all this wage demands, the food retailers and other industries climb in with impunity and raise prices daily.
The silent majority stay silent, for the time being then vote with their feet and see a Labour government installed after the wreckage created by the Conservatives.
Sunak is the fall guy but leaving sufficient disaster behind him that Labour will spend the next 4 years trying and failing to sort it out, therefore the Tories will return promising to sort out the mess.
Accountants should never run a company unless it's a bank, or run a country, currently there are two.
Can't think of a good reason why anybody would want to live in the UK.
    You couldn't make it up.
