Just a quick correction; taking from Joppa may be cheating on Vanilla. Apparently an old mod (from over a year ago!!) was left enabled on my save! Despite this, you can usually get everything from every chest just by closing doors. So it isn't stealing if you don't get caught!!
I believe there are still two chests you can rob, but I also have a handful of mods so I can't confirm. Though a recent (1.0) video essay suggested those two chests also and I don't believe the guy was playing with mods since he was making an essay about the 1.0 release.
@@AreimaYT I believe that now there's only one chest that you can freely take stuff from. The other two are in houses with fences inside and resident can see you steal and will be agressive towards you if you do
I have been debating it with some of the people I talk youtube with. There is a possibility that, since this is a top 3 favorite game of mine, even if it does badly I'll keep the series up as a pet project. No promises, but that's what we're leaning towards!
@@AreimaYT Hey yes I'm in the same boat, been looking for a good playthrough for days, with someone talking as they do things. I subscribed and hope you continue!
Been playing a while and am pretty happy with the release. This game has beautiful writing and loads of fun mechanics/interactions. The randomness of all the procedurally generated sections is top notch as well. Every character I've played (at least somewhat successfully) grows on me even if itngives me options I'd never choose. My latest run is going incredibly well, frost hands makes me almost immune to freezing, temporal fugue and corrosive gas and hook and drag is a devastating combo, and I've managed to find and kill my first Girsh Nephilim in a harrowing fight deep underground only for him to duplicate himself. Then I kited them until one of them killed the other then dove back in. The main draw for me is the sheer amount of combinations of options for dealing with the myriad of problems that arise and turning them into opportunity.
@@morebird4318 imagine a story teller in the voice of those sasquatch seekers. Oh man. Went to a cave at salty sun. Got m'self a musket to help defend against a 4 armed scorpion tailed dude. Sent an army of plants after me. Thing going BANG, BANG, BANG. Exploding and all that. Would've been dead had I not ran when I heard them mechanical crusaders. Them tech templars shot down everyone in the room. I ain't heading out any time soon. I and goin in, no. Never going back.
I'm glad its helpful! I'm not exactly going for tutorial play-through, but I always want to try to be as inclusive to new and old players as I can be. Its a tight-rope to balance!
The decision I made later in the video (although I appreciate the input) is to use slow-explore in the beginning. Basically until I am done with Joppa quests, then we'll speed things up as people are more acclimated to the game.
Don't sell the witchwood wreath. You can convert it into a witchwood bark, if you bother to get Harvestry, which is pretty much a given if you start in Joppa.
Awesome, I love Caves of Qud. Looking forward to the series! One recommendation I'd make is buying lead slugs every time vendors have them in stock just because they're so affordable. Thanks for the video!
Definitely a good tip! Thats why we grabbed all the slugs Tam had. They wont last long but they will come in handy, at least until we get to Grit and buy a few thousand. XD
I played a good 16 hours or so of this game last summer, but I couldn't make sense of cooking (I saw the Sseth review and thought it would be fun to try). I couldn't seem to find or get ingredients. Glad to hear you're going to be doing a play through, might give it another go after Path of Achra.
Cooking is deceptively simple, and fortunately they finally explained it in the tutorial that got added. When camping (an ability all characters have) you can "eat" with zero ingrediant cost to reduce your hunger simply by interacting with the camp with no enemies nearby. Cooking with ingredients is just a skill to get some buffs (some random, some planned) and isn't necessary to reduce hunger!
@@peterhammes8321 you absolutely still have to close a door, and in fact be enclosed entirely. Even if you're out of sight in the houses with the fence windows the villagers will turn on you immediately if you take anything.

@miklyk Dark Souls 1, Caves of Qud and Cultist Simulator. XD
@@AreimaYT Cultist simulator took over my live for like 2 years. Book of hours is good but didn't grab me like CS did.
If a merchant is holding something like a "painted" item, you can look at it without buying it and get that lore.
this game makes ridiculous stories on every run and it's so good listening to the adventure without background context.

I think fast auto explore is fine. Like you said, when something interesting happens it pauses anyways so we won´t really miss anything.

Awesome I had heard about this game! It’s supposed to be incredibly fun and really hard. You are in your element. Have a great time.
They don't get mad at you when you take stuff from a chest in sight of them anymore? I used to have to close the door before I tried that.

Sorry, I have a pinned comment for this now. I later learned that some of my mods got left on from over a year ago. (I never uninstall coq)
Thanks!!
This is the only game I know of where you can go to Golgotha and get your ass absolutely blasted! :)
