Caetano Veloso was very influenced by Anglo-Saxon music. In effect he was exiled in London. I recommend reacting to a performance by María Bethania, her sister and an excellent performer.
Maria Bethânia is everything. She represents a Brazil more Brazilian than anyone can fathom. Goddess, diva, presence and voice. I recommend "Depois de ter você" with Bethânia and Adriana Calcanhoto, a great Brazilian composer. The lesbian vibe in that song is intense. "After having had you.... poets, what for? Blooming almond trees, what for? "
Frank, I wish more people in the world spoke Portuguese just to understand Caetano’s lyrics. Besides that, as you realize he is very versatile musically. Not limited to Bolsa Nova, he will write and sing Frevos, Rock, Samba, Funk, Flamenco and whatever he feels like that day. He is a true blessing to Brasil! Makes me proud of being baiana (From the State of Bahia) like him.
Frank, I recommend you to react to Caetano’s Sampa. Song in partnership with Gilberto Gil. From a time he moved to São Paulo (Sampa). This song is like an Anthem to the city. And it talks about the shock of somebody that comes from a sunny, beach city(sonho feliz de cidade) to a big concrete jungle, with its famous weather, where it drizzles for the whole day(garoa) or rains heavily ( seus Deuses da chuva), where the money builds and destroys beautiful things (a força da grana que ergue e destrói coisas belas). When I moved from Bahia to São Paulo in my 20s I understood exactly what this song meant. I passed through the corner Ipiranga St and São João Avenue and lucky I had Caetano’s poetry to give me support. ruclips.net/video/3x3OxX69pfs/видео.html

Frank, Bom dia!

you are right, people that ''dont know caetano' , know him by the romantic soft songs, actually his best repertoire is (70s, 80s) is the vibe from this music you are hearing now... listen any music from album ''caetanear''
Brazilian music in the 70s and 80s was very political, all the artists (music, , theater, cinema, writing and all arts) had to be smart enough to go over the ostensible control of military censorship. All lyrics are in the context of the time , also using figures of people that were absolutely relevant, whether for artistic quality or political significance, like "hermetismos pascoais" in refence to Hermeto Pascoal (is a Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist). Cazuza, Caetano, Gilberto Gil, Chico Buarque de Holanda, Renato Russo and so many more... Not forgetting the wonderfull brazilian women that produce awesome art as well.
The band that follow caetano is "a cor do som" I hope you ear any song from this great band. Maybe "Zanzibar", or "zero" or "menino Deus" or "or abri a porta" (?) Or any other song. all are good.
Caetano is awesome! There are several subtleties in the lyrics of this song. It's worthy to analyze it. This song is from 1984. I recommend another song in the "same" vibe: "Eclipe Oculto" from 1983, that was also recorded by Cazuza later. Check it out! See u!
Hermeto Pascoal è un cantante (Ermeticismi pasquali... I segreti di Hermeto. Pantanos, Caatingas e Gerais (campi in generale - come a Minas Gerias = luogo di molte miniere). Poteri Marci ... POTERI DEI PADRI (Chiesa).
His best work, I think, is the album "Transa"; it's a masterpiece and very different from what you've listened to so far. Something about Brazilian music is that it's a universe in itself. Something pretty interesting usually happens to most brazilians who love music: up to our twenties we listen to (mostly) foreign music. But then we kind of wake up to our own culture and music and spend decades finding new wonderful songs and albums that never end. If you liked Metro, try these songs by them : "Johnny love" , "tititi" and "Sandalo de Dandi". I think you still haven't listened to "Céu " (a singer), "Demônios da Garoa" (a samba group), "Originais do Samba" (another samba group); "Maisa" (a great singer), "Cibelle" (singer), "Luiz Melodia" (awesome singer), " Diogo Nogueira " (singer), "Liniker" (awesome soul band) , "Raimundos" (rock band), "Edu Lobo" (great instrumentalist and singer), "Daude" (singer) "RádioTaxi" (band), "Os Replicantes" (band), "Hanoi Hanoi" (band), "Hojerizah" (band), "Velhas Virgens" (very bold and funny blues and rock band), "Júpiter Maçã " (awesome rock singer/band), "Dalto" (very original singer), "Banda Black Rio" (awesome funk band), "Fellini" (awesome alternative rock band), "As frenéticas" (female pop group from the 70's), "Fausto Fawcett" (bold and irreverent pop singer), "Fernanda Abreu" (pop and funk singer, pretty famous in the 80'sand 90's), "Airto Moreira" (awesome instrumentalist), "Matanza" (great rock band), "Quarteto em cy" (MPB group), "MPB4 (awesome MPB group), "Nana Caymmi" (awesome singer), "Dorival Caymmi", (a singer, a composer, a legend). Hey Frank. In order to understand the lyrics of this song you must dive into the brazilian culture scene to get a grasp of all the things he is referring to. Nice reaction though. Bravo!!!

At that time, Caetano's lyrics were giant (normally with social criticiscm) and the instrumental was very 80ish. An unusual choice to react to, because its lyrics are complex (for a foreigner and even for a native speaker) and the instrumental is kinda generic and not that "brazilian" than expected by a foreigner. Also good, but I prefer his 70s oeuvre.
There até a Lot of simbolismos in this lirics. Beleza e me. Rsrs Lot of Pages to explain. Hermétiismos means things made by Hermeto Paschoal, a Brazilian musician, Tons, means Tom Jobim, Doms, means Dom Salvador, Tins, means Tim Maia. Grate Brazilian musiciansall of tem.

Frank,
I recommend you to react to Caetano’s Sampa.

Bom Dia! Caetano Veloso é o artista mais criativo, transgressor, visionário, politizado e inteligente do Mundo!
not...
YES!!! One of the most unknown and underrated Caetano's phases. Love that sound and days! What a joy...
BTW, this one and O Cu do Mundo are very appropriate for nowadays... and you're right: we were in the end of our last dictatorship.
(From then there were Vaca Profana, Língua, Terra, José, OMG so many powerful songs!)
Look for his live version on Bob Dylan's JOKERMAN for godsake! Circuladô (studio or live recorded) is a great album!
Great reaction, Frank !!! Podres Poderes is one of the best songs from Caetano. Congrats and regards from Porto, the best CITY in Portugal.
Zizi possi luz e misterio
Caetano is always the inflencER.😉
In Brazil we simply name this kind of music MPB (Brazilian popular music).
Tims (Tim Maia), Bens (Jorge Benjor) e tais (some more else)
This song have planty of Brazilian culture and historic happenings.
It os só hard for a Foreigner understand.
Hi FRank, Caetano is a genius in my opinion in all aspects and there is too many other songs that you'd love to react coz his discography is huge go ahead, good sunday.
Obrigada, Frank, pela qualidade de seu canal. Caetano em Podres poderes, universal.
You should Know The álbum Estrangeiro ( and The music with The same.name) from Caetano is powerful... and goes deeply in the conceptual Music by Caetano...
Muito Bom !!!
Caetano is wonderful👏👏
Adoro Caetano e Podres Poderes.♥️
Canto demais Podres Poderes.
react to Caetano Veloso - It's a Long Way , song from his best album which is "Transa"
Oh, Caetano has another song with this musical style (but it speaks about love and relationships) called "Eclipse Oculto" (means hidden eclipse).
One of his best albums! This is more Caetano than bossa nova. The lyrics are a satire to Church/State ...awesome! Eles means them/they.
The lyrics are so meaninful!
“ Will we ever do more than confirm the incompetence of Catholic America (which will always need ridiculous tyrants).”
“while (certain) men exercise their rotten powers, dying and kill of hunger, anger and thirst are so often such banal gestures.”
"Será que apenas os hermetismos pascoais
E os tons, os mil tons...."
Hermetismos pascoais - Hermeto Pascoal
Tons - Tom Jobim
Mil tons - Milton Nascimento
"Tins e bens e tais!"
Tins - Tim Maia
Bens - Jorge Ben Jor
you are right, people that ''dont know caetano' , know him by the romantic soft songs, actually his best repertoire is (70s, 80s) is the vibe from this music you are hearing now... listen any music from album ''caetanear''
👏👏👏👏👏Caetano Mestre!!!!💯💯💯💯💯✊✊❤
A diversidade musical do artista brasileiro é ADMIRÁVEL.
Boa Frank! Thanks! Caetano is a genius!
Also, you still haven't listened to the best of Elis Regina and Chico Buarque (I guarantee). But no pressure; take your time LOL But let's suppose you wanna be impressed. Then listen to Elis Regina live on RAI TV ruclips.net/video/SFE5uiqdVEY/видео.html, "Construção", by Chico (studio version!), Gal Costa singing "Meu nome é Gal" live ruclips.net/video/8KHtYIL7_-Q/видео.html or the live performance of "O que será que será " by Chico and Milton. This version: ruclips.net/video/lkRe-6evscY/видео.html
Caetano ha multi belle musicas...mob e diverse stylos e rytmos
Yes once in 82 came an Blitz broke thru previous gen caetano gil etc adopted some of the new wave rock sound from brazil. You are really on top of it Frank
ruclips.net/video/Mqx8fe7v7po/видео.html
Descubra ele exorcizando tudo cantando "Não Enche". Essa apresentação é muito boa Frank!
Caetano also wanted this song to age, but miserably it remains super current
So.... you listen this lyrics and back to zero degree on portuguese 😂
Hermetos Paschoais (artistas geniais como Hermeto Paschoal), Tons (Tom Jobim), Miltons = Thousand tons (Milton Nascimento), nas caatingas (Nordeste do Brasil) é nos gerais (Minas Geraes (Clube da Esquina). Letra dificílima de traduzir. Caetano e totalmente apaixonado pela língua portuguesa.
Queria querer cantar afinado com eles means I like to sing with them. Eles is plural of ele……you said Elis…..remembering the singer Elis Regina
"Será que nunca faremos senão confirmar
A incompetência da América católica
Que sempre precisará de ridículos tiranos?
A pergunta do ano no Brasil.
Frank, thanks for this reaction!! Try "TERRA" : ruclips.net/video/wAmtLN4PlLU/видео.html
Ciao, Franceschino Valchiria!
Questo suggerimento è veramente buono:
----> Céu - Bubuia
Non ti pentirai.
Ciao!
Hey Frank. In order to understand the lyrics of this song you must dive into the brazilian culture scene to get a grasp of all the things he is referring to. Nice reaction though. Bravo!!!
Beijo no ❤
At that time, Caetano's lyrics were giant (normally with social criticiscm) and the instrumental was very 80ish.
Rsrs
Lot of Pages to explain.
Hermétiismos means things made by Hermeto Paschoal, a Brazilian musician, Tons, means Tom Jobim, Doms, means Dom Salvador, Tins, means Tim Maia. Grate Brazilian musiciansall of tem.
Caetano ia a classic! It´s my turn, Frank: List to you:
MAGNIFIC MUSIC ❤❤
''Hermetismos Pascoais'' is a reference to ''Hermeto Pascoal'', great musician
