Had the honor of seeing them live. Sheer musical brilliance. A 40 year plus career based on doing the music they wanted to do. RIP The Professor

So, let's see if I got this right: three guys in their late fifties: one with arthritis (Alex, the guitarist) & this is how they play at the _END _*_OF_*_ three effing _*_HOURS??!?_* Alex played like _that_ after three hours & having arthritis.
Just an addition: it was a Cleveland radio station that accidentally made Rush become known in the U.S.A. at least in Cleveland then in points east. DJ's needed songs long enough to cover their bathroom breaks & the grooves on the vinyl indicated this one could do that. Since it was about "Working Man" it resounded with the audience.
It took the DJs a while to figure out what song people were asking about since they hadn't listened to it themselves. Anyhow, this is why _THIS_ song ends their Time Machine concert *in Cleveland* I'm sure of it. In their fifties & still that focused on their music, not trying to look cool or anything else, just enjoying what they do.
Real Working Men. So cool of Geddy to let Cleveland know how special they are to them.

Original songs with videos go with Tom Sawyer, Spirit of Radio , Limelight and Subdivisions (among many others). Want to see them live again then watch YYZ live in Rio, and Xanadu from Exit Stage Left, they are the two musts but most Rush live is amazing no matter the song.

one thing about Rush is that never let you down. They always have you 100% on tour and there isn't but maybe 1 or 2 songs out of their 170 or so that weren't favorites.
By far, best three piece band ever.

  • @robertpinazza4043

That big guitar is a Gibson ES-355, many others have played it as well; BB King immediately comes to mind. Alex Lifeson (guitarist) was annimmesnse role in shaping Rush’s sound throughout their (musically) evolving career and is considered by many guitarists one of the greatest of all time. His unique sound, his note arrangements, chords,& solos( called man of 1000 solos!) make him one of the all time greatest composers on this instrument, and was a huge influence on countless other guitarists over the decades.
Don’t want to comment on the “other 2 guys” cause I’d need another 1000 words to do them any justice!
Seen a rush 24x , mind blowing EVERY time!

Both of you probably wondering Rush's concert recorded live in Cleveland. Their beginnings in mid 70's, no stations in USA didn't played their early songs, but one Rock Station in Cleveland, WMMS 100.7 1st played their songs.

The drummer, Neil Peart, sadly died from cancer in 2020. Guitarist Alex Lifeson and singer/bass player Geddy Lee have been friends since Junior High. Great band. Dig deeper! Try the live version of Xanadu from the Exit Stage Left show. Or Far Cry live from Snakes and Arrows Show. So many great Rush songs: Tom Sawyer, Spirit of Radio, Freewill, Clockwork Angels, Limelight, Red Barchetta, Marathon…I could go on and on. Welcome to the Rush rabbit hole.

Just a quick note on Alex's guitar in this video. It's a Gibson ES-355 that he's used for years and years. He sold most of his Rush era guitars at auction recently and that guitar sold for something like $385,000 - the proceeds going to charity.

When you think you're ready... and it could take you a few more songs... 2112 (Twenty-One Twelve) from the album of the same name.. it's the only version that is complete.. it's like 20 minutes long and no other recording of it is complete. #RushArmy Prepare to be amazed by everything 3 master musicians can do. Welcome to the Rush Rabbit Hole.. it's deep and wide after playing together for 40+ years. There's so much good stuff by this band. I'm partial to the 70's and early 80's (I was a teen during that time) and was able to see them live 4 times during that time period. My #1 band of all time... followed closely by Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd in no particular order.

Rush played the entire "2112" (yes, all 7 parts) during the "Test for Echo Tour" in 1998. It was recorded live for the 'Different Stages' album. It was the only tour where Rush played the "Discovery" part, too

Try "Xanadu" Exit Stage Left 81' Live. There 35 years younger and You Will Be Blown Away at what they do live. Enjoy the rabbit whole you went down. Every song is a Banger. 😁❤🤘

There are many bands that are beyond talented and then there is RUSH. Musically and lyrically a few levels above

Alex Lifeson's Gibson isn't huge. It's just a semi-acoustic guitar with a hollow body, which are all normally bigger than solidbodies, but you would be surprised how good you can play it, because it is thinner than a Jazz guitar. All Gibson ES-335 or 355 have that shape.

You will only get to see them on video. The professor (Neil Peart) their drummer died. You should see his drum solo and you'll know why he was the greatest. Every drummer in the world is influenced by him.
They're all amazingly talented. The singer plays bass & keyboards and Moog synth pedals with his feet while singing.

  • @SamuelDavidDeLuce

My strong recommendation is that you listen to Closer To the Heart off of their live release Different Stages.
They go off at the end of the song into this EPIC instrumental.
A earlier rendition of the same instrumental at the end but with electronic, synthetic instruments and this version from their earlier Live release of A Show of Hands isn't as bold and in your face as the one I recommend you listen to which is from Different Stages. Plus I don't think I've ever heard a better live recording from anyone than D.S.
    Enjoy
