I bought a 1.19 carat diamond with 32 diamonds surrounding it in a halo for my fiancee. We discussed real and lab grown diamonds before and she said she wanted a lab grown. Mined diamonds would've made the ring between £10 - 15k as each diamond was very high quality and clarity. I paid a fifth of that and the ring is identical to a mined one, and absolutely stunning. I’m currently getting a lab grown diamond ring custom made by someone after doing a lot of research and then finding a stone and after going to a jewelry store and seeing how they push what they actually referred to as “real” (meaning natural” diamonds and then slipping and calling lab grown fake, it cemented that I’m going lab grown and custom from now own and maybe never going back in a store for anything other than a much smaller purchase. The attitude and markup anyway, even in small family owned stores, is insane. The look on their face when I casually mentioned the makeup of lab vs natural diamonds was priceless 😅
Been in the diamond industry for 20+ years. Diamonds should NOT be looked at as an investment… in the sense that it will increase in value. It’s an emotional purchase. I moved to selling lab grown 10 years ago before all the big stores started selling them… when they used to have gray tones. They’ve come a long way in quality since those days. One thing to mention about HPHT, they don’t always test as diamond on a diamond tester.. which can make it difficult to sell to a customer who’s on the fence. Great video!
Thank you, I was looking for this comment. I went ahead and got a CVD, two jewelers have mentioned to me that they prefer CVD as it is pure 100% carbon and if we can control the process, why not?
@@Bonezz024 from what I understand it has to do with the amount on boron in the hpht diamond. This was an issue a few years ago, however not sure if it’s still a problem. Id check with the diamond manufacturer to see what changes have been made.
Agree, it shouldn't be considered. But many find it important. People consider these investments and rare. Its a rude awaking and many dont like it. But thats with anything retail.
Great video. I’m a natural stone collector. People want to buy d e f vvs if labs. They want diamonds that look like diamonds and at better quality ags 0 light performance. Me I like vanadium green chrysoberyls with red flashes, borderline alexandrite. If people want resale value then I always say buy “gold” even natural stones when sold by a consumer get maybe 30 percent of what they payed. Like all things.
But hpht diamonds when tested with a diamond tester does not say it is a diamond while cvd is same as natural ones - I got confused by your statement that hpht is better than cvd diamonds can you pls clarify on this topic a bit more
I think he said this because they have better color. I heard CVD can be brownish. Sometimes CVD diamonds are later treated with HPHT process for color correction.
Most consumer diamonds (earth grown) that are purchased aren’t going to hold their value with the onset of lag grown diamonds. They don’t even hold their value now. Unless you want to drop 40k on a massive rock as an investment the you won’t ever get a price increase when you sell your diamond.
You are correct, this is not a monetary investment. Honestly, they never held their value even before lab diamonds arrived. Pawn shops and jewelers loved when diamond sellers came around because they made massive profits. Maybe people got back 25% of their original purchase. Tale as old as time.
Watched many videos over the last few months and just got a wonderful lab diamond and it's beautiful! A VVS2, Ideal cut, E color, and 1.11 carats and its wonderful and got it for a great price! Thanks for the info!
I bought 1.00 ct lab grown diamond with IGI certified. E color, ideal cut, VS1 only $1000. It tests diamond, it looks beautiful as a diamond. I save a lot of money. If you buy natural diamond for the same range may be you pay around $8000 dollars when you sell it back you will lose at least 35-40% from what you purchased. So, what is the deal for natural diamond?
@bensmiteherro9224 Because the lab diamond we replaced it with is a better cut than the natural diamond we lost. That makes it way better looking and way less likely to fall out.
If you take a bottle and leave it outside on the cold and it freezes or you take the same bottle and put it in the freezer inside...is there any difference...Debeers is not happy, but they have made enough money

What do you recommend for people not infected with diamond hype? What's the best materialism alternative for men buy so the woman that may or may not divorce them (flip a coin probability) can flex to other women and the public in general? Some elaborate face tattoo that says "I love John"?
Haha I say Lab diamonds. In the end, buy something your significant other is comfortable with. Our views dont always align with theirs. My wife loves large stones, I love small ones lol.
Yes agree with diamonds losing value. My husband and I spent a small fortune on my ring. Fast forward ten years later I watched the blood diamond movie and didn’t want anything diamond and resold it. Not only did it take a long time to sell I lost 60% of my retail purchase price.
Why would the resale value be dependent on the price you paid? An example you stated for one carat diamond the cut and clarity and size was the exact same? Thanks for taking my question.
Mostly all diamonds you buy will be worth a fraction when you sell them. Stones under 0,50 carat are included in the scrapgold weight price of the Jewel. Only the real big stones can make chance to be sold for a reasonable price.
You may think it like this, earth grown diamonds are the ice you can find on the mountains and lab diamonds are the ice you can make in your refrigerator
Thanks for the comment. I don't see how machines that cost millions to purchase makes a lab diamond take 36 bucks to make. Do you mean a CZ diamond? Lab diamonds as a process is an expensive endeavor yet much cheaper than mining.
Look i had a client who worked for Rio tinto , he was part of a team that were studying lab diamonds and its repercussions ...lets just say thereafter , rio tinto stopped mining argyle , thats what everyone knows ....lets just say his own superior told him to spend very little money on his natural diamond ( at that point in time , lab wasnt so cheap yet ) , and lets just say what their study concluded ? that lab diamonds and natural prices will converge at some point . look in 2022 , i sold only 1 natural out of 99 . when i show a client that a 0.50ct still costs more than a 1ct lab diamond of superior colour and clarity , they know how to choose , mankind aint stupid .
I’m mad. HPHT Are coming up over and over on the internet as moissanite. Yet the CVD comes up as diamond on a tester . I’ve just purchased a HPHT 😢 why would pay when it’s not gonna show as a diamond on a tester . Any insight on this please ? P.s I haven’t received it yet , only just ordered it
I am unsure on the percent of diamonds this is happening too. Might be the quality of tester as well. Apparently it can be due to the thermal conductivity of the diamond and HTHP can cause a misreading. You know you are buying a certified lab diamond, what are the odds of someone testing your diamond. I understand your concern but I also wouldn't be too concerned either.
@@OsirisDiamonds i believe it has to do with the trace elements trapped in the diamond. I read that natural blue diamonds also won't show up as diamonds on those cheap testers.
If there is a clarity enhancement, some methods fall apart in high heat. Like if you were going to re-polish your gold ring/re-dip it for luster. Color enhancement shouldn't be effected the same way as clarity enhancement.
Let's say in 50 - 100 years, there are lots of diamond jewelery in the secondary with lack of provenance for either the jewelery or the diamonds on it. Is there any way to tell whether it was natural or lab grown? I suspect the answer is that it's not possible...
Hi Jade. Well most serious vendors sell goods that are certified. And you should only buy goods that are certified. There will be a microscopic laser inscribed code on the side of the diamond that will say its origin.
Remember most diamond owners don't sell their diamonds. People divorced sell their diamonds. There aren't too many outlets to sell other than jewelers or pawn shops. They already get their goods on discount so why pay you the same rate as a wholesaler were they already get diamonds from. They are going to pay you less since its a cash risk to buy and hold goods till they sell. If you buy wrong you are royally screwed. Hence my point, these are not monetary investments.
Thanks for your comment Gladys. Appraisals are always double the value of purchase price or current value. There is a massive difference between worth, appraisals and resell price. Appraisals are used simply for insurance companies to charge you a premium for coverage. If I buy a ring today for 10,000. I will get an appraisal for 20,000.

Mined diamonds would've made the ring between £10 - 15k as each diamond was very high quality and clarity. I paid a fifth of that and the ring is identical to a mined one, and absolutely stunning. Thank God for lab grown diamonds. Now we have the ring of her dreams and a bunch of cash to put towards our life together. Can't recommend lab grown enough
Congrats David, well played!
Hope you stay together lol
Where did you go if I may ask?
@sixdegrees2608 You bought real diamonds which are worthless lol Debeers fan
@@formula1555 I bought from Ingle & Rhode. I'm in the UK and they're in Canada so order well in advance if you need the diamond by a certain time
There’s so many retailers recommending lab diamonds. The margins have to be incredible high if they’re pushing them.
They see the writing on the wall. There is a shift happening.
I have a 3 carat real diamond & two three carat Lab grown! I love the lab grown & wear them when travelling!
A Lab grown diamond is a real diamond. The only difference is that one is made by nature, the other man. But both are real.
Lol no. One is synthetic, one is natural.

synthetic
/sɪnˈθɛtɪk/
adjective
adjective: synthetic
1.
(of a substance) made by chemical synthesis, especially to imitate a natural product.
"synthetic rubber"
(of an emotion or action) not genuine; insincere.
"their tears are a bit synthetic"
If humans made them, through processes in a lab, they're synthetic.
Ambergis and ambroxan is another example; one is made in the intestines of a sperm whale, the other is made in a lab by humans of course. Perfume with ambroxan is cheaper than perfume with ambergis by about 60%
A lab grown diamond is not real diamond.
@user-bn6lm8ng3v 100% I don't understand how people do not understand this. The lab growers are Brainwashing at is best.
I agree with most of what you’ve said except the last part.
How would it be possible for Lab diamonds not to read as positive?
@@Bonezz024 from what I understand it has to do with the amount on boron in the hpht diamond. This was an issue a few years ago, however not sure if it’s still a problem. Id check with the diamond manufacturer to see what changes have been made.
Good info bro. I prefer lab grown. I have both. I think the main point of contention is resale value. Which doesn't matter to most.
A funny analogy I've heard was "is the ice in your freezer trays 'real' ice (vs the ones outside)??" 😁
Can you do some videos on coloured lab diamonds please? I’d love to know more about them too.
5:24 high pressure high temperature better. Chemical vapor deposition is worse
I've never purchased natural or lab diamonds with the intent to sell them. Resale is nothing to me
Agree, it shouldn't be considered. But many find it important. People consider these investments and rare. Its a rude awaking and many dont like it. But thats with anything retail.
That’s the first thing that popped in my head too!!
Very interesting and informative. Thank you.
You are 100% right, gold is the investment move to make, not diamonds.
Loved the explanation
Glad you liked it
Why do you prefer hpht over cvd? Just wondering. Love your videos!
Great video and guide! Have any tips for lab grown canary yellow diamond shopping?
Thank you. I would use my guide on my site and just apply settings to fancy color
Was not aware of the different methods to create lab diamonds.
Yes and many stones out there are CVD
Most consumer diamonds (earth grown) that are purchased aren’t going to hold their value with the onset of lag grown diamonds. They don’t even hold their value now.
Unless you want to drop 40k on a massive rock as an investment the you won’t ever get a price increase when you sell your diamond.
You are correct, this is not a monetary investment. Honestly, they never held their value even before lab diamonds arrived. Pawn shops and jewelers loved when diamond sellers came around because they made massive profits. Maybe people got back 25% of their original purchase. Tale as old as time.
This! And I’ve even been told before that there’s no value on the small pointed diamonds the pawn shops only want it for the gold
Hope to meet you in Singapore! Gemologist Jo
If I am ever in town!
Watched many videos over the last few months and just got a wonderful lab diamond and it's beautiful! A VVS2, Ideal cut, E color, and 1.11 carats and its wonderful and got it for a great price! Thanks for the info!
Amazing thanks for giving me your professional answer !
You are welcome
I bought 1.00 ct lab grown diamond with IGI certified. E color, ideal cut, VS1 only $1000. It tests diamond, it looks beautiful as a diamond. I save a lot of money. If you buy natural diamond for the same range may be you pay around $8000 dollars when you sell it back you will lose at least 35-40% from what you purchased. So, what is the deal for natural diamond?
We love our lab diamond… think it’s way better than the natural diamond we lost.
@bensmiteherro9224 Because the lab diamond we replaced it with is a better cut than the natural diamond we lost. That makes it way better looking and way less likely to fall out.
@bensmiteherro9224 Of course it would, it would be way less expensive.
Great post!
Thanks Jake
Hi, i have question...why a diamond would lose value when the quality still the of original purshase ??
If you take a bottle and leave it outside on the cold and it freezes or you take the same bottle and put it in the freezer inside...is there any difference...Debeers is not happy, but they have made enough money
hahaha I love that. Yes, its time for a new era.
Great to see you again. You helped with purchase on my ring. Perfect!!! Love it and the clarity is Absolutely amazing.
Appreciate 👍 ❤️ 👍 ❤️
Thank you! Happy to have helped you get a beautiful ring!
@@OsirisDiamonds we called about another. Left message 👍
where/how can you tell if the lab diamond is HPHT VS CVD?
Some certificates will state it(IGI), others will not(GIA). I will urge my viewers not to put to much weight on HPHT or CVD. Focus more on cut.
I love lab and moissanite diamonds. Thats why I have so many rings earrings bracelets and necklaces diamond 💎 but resale diamonds that are real is better. If you want to pawn
Thats awesome. Pawn shops give 20% of value off real diamonds. I wouldn't say thats a great selling point.
Iam looking to buy a 1.54 carrot color d vs1 for about 6 grand including the setting I hope she doesn’t get mad it’s lab I’m worried can’t afford to buy the standard one which would cost 17k plus
Boy, put that fucking drink down and take a deep breath.
Nice video ❤thank you for the information ❤
Yes agree with diamonds losing value. My husband and I spent a small fortune on my ring. Fast forward ten years later I watched the blood diamond movie and didn’t want anything diamond and resold it. Not only did it take a long time to sell I lost 60% of my retail purchase price.
Very common. Sorry to hear you had a negative experience. Now lab diamond solve that issue.
Honest and informative. Good job sir.
I appreciate that! Glad I was helpful.
I recently bought an HPHT Lab Diamond in D Color VVS1. Why is it that some jewelers prefer CVD over HPHT?
Why would the resale value be dependent on the price you paid? An example you stated for one carat diamond the cut and clarity and size was the exact same? Thanks for taking my question.
Great video 🙏🏻 I heard HPHT diamonds can make the stones magnetic? metallic inclusions and a blue nuance?
Are you sure to don’t mean ELECTRO-magnetic?
Mostly all diamonds you buy will be worth a fraction when you sell them.
Stones under 0,50 carat are included in the scrapgold weight price of the Jewel.
Only the real big stones can make chance to be sold for a reasonable price.
what is the difference in HPHT type II type IIa or IIb
You may think it like this, earth grown diamonds are the ice you can find on the mountains and lab diamonds are the ice you can make in your refrigerator
I really hit the like button because I've learn from it. thank you sir
Costs a friend of mine 36 bucks to make a 2car lab diamond. $4200 ? Fairly priced?
Thanks for the comment. I don't see how machines that cost millions to purchase makes a lab diamond take 36 bucks to make. Do you mean a CZ diamond? Lab diamonds as a process is an expensive endeavor yet much cheaper than mining.
This is a good man.
God bless you Jesus!
How do you tell which method was used to create lab diamonds....?
IGI certs show the method of creation.
This was excellent info. Ty.
You are very welcome.
Thank you for your videos!
Which website would you recommend. I was thinking to buy from stores but why not save money
I read that natural blue diamonds also won't show up as diamonds on those cheap testers.
great video - will CVD lab diamonds ever lose clarity or color if they are post-treated?
Bro I just wish real diamond owners would speak on this and show their pieces and give their experiences on the real marker with their investments
So, is Moissanite a lab grown diamond? Or, is it sort of crystal cubic zirconia?
It doesn't have the exact chemical composition as natural/lab diamond.
@@OsirisDiamonds is it still a stone or plastic like?
I have purchased diamond studs from Tiffany’s 25 years ago I had them appraised two years they have doubled in price
@@OsirisDiamonds makes sense
I found this video very useful! Thank you! 🙏😊
Glad I can be of service
I like yellow diamonds in a princes 4:30 cut 1ctis more than enough , I guess everybody does ! 6:26
But the real question is what makes a diamond so valuable if it has no commercials value 💃 and never sold more then the purchase price
A loss is a loss 🤦♀️ diamonds are a loss not investment Great video
What is the best cut to look for?
Thanks for the video! ... Do you know if all BlueNile and JamesAllen lab diamonds are HPHT?
So I purchased a simulated pink pear shape ring from jc penny lab created on google it says fake I want to know if my ring real The reg price was 624.00 I got it half off help please 🤦♀️
yes I like lab grown diamonds
Great information!

Quick question. I found a source for VVS2 E color 3 carat round cut Diamond for about 700 each. Pairing that with a 14k solid gold ring puts me at $1300 total. Do you think you could resale that for profit?
Have you ever seen a diamond that glows? My wife’s diamond will glow in the dark up to 60 seconds after taking away the light. Any idea why?
High flurocense probably. Please google about it.
How does the vendor, Rare Carat measure up on lab created diamonds?
What’s the best website for buying them
I have my fav vendor and diamond settings here www.diamondcityonline.com/lab-diamonds-buying-guide/
Lab grown diamond is the way to go!
1000%
I wanted to buy 2 carat good quality ring with vs 1 or vs 2 clarity
Diamonds aren’t a good investment resale you lose money- absolutely true.
Yep, it’s just like any other retail product. Your losing 50% value minimum even if you buy correctly.
I am looking at diamonds for an engagement ring and one woman was really trying to sell me on lab grown. I have always been of the opinion to buy what is unique, quality, and rare. And agreed it is not a financial investment however the fact that it’s worth could and probably will decrease over time versus an earth mined diamond is just..off putting in a way. Granted the awful labor practices are off putting as well. Idk, idk which to pick. Thoughts anyone?
A diamond is made by Carbon being pressed by A huge force..Lab Made Diamonds are made by Carbon Being pressed by a huge force..Lab Made Diamonds are better quality then natural ones and you dont need to worry about them starting out being mined by forced labor..Hopefully sooner or later The prices will drop and the demand for "Blood" Diamonds will no longer exist..Its always been a myth that Diamonds are rare (Not really rare when they are on every married womens finger)..Its just The Supply chain is Funneled from A handful of sources that Hold them all and determine prices..Go lab made You will get a better Quality Diamond and nobody died for it so win win..Congratulations by the way and best of luck and well wishes to you both!!
My fiance just bought me a 6 carat lab grown blue diamond ring, and I can't tell you how beautiful it is. When I opened the box it was like wow, can it be seen from heaven? I was over joyed and will wear it knowing my fiance is extremely happy he made me happy.
Lab Grown all day. Much better for the environment and human beings.
It’s a big plus
