Ilkka getting to act and voice his own character, and it being Tom was such a good call, and also gave Ilkka a chance at portraying a character entirely.
Yeah I kind of don't like that they do the voice/ motion mismatch thing but at the same time? I love Matthew Porretta's voice as Alan, though I feel like Ilkka could easily train himself into that voice if he had to. Horizon Zero Dawn/ Forbidden West does this too. Hannah Hoekstra being the image and Ashley Burch being the voice. Now, the voice nobody alive could mimic? James McCaffrey's LOL
Both these characters are written so well as Melanie mentioned. And getting them see together in a live action scene was also so cool. Here's hoping that someday, I can talk in depth with her about her role
There's a point in the game where Saga and Alan meet in the overlap, and from Saga's perspective, she's very frustrated and angry at Wake for having written Logan into the story, but from Alan's side, he perceives their meeting as a good thing, where he sees Saga as a good force helping him. I thought that was kind of a beautiful way to show how differently we can experience things.
For Wake, it may well have been subconscious validation that he finally got it right. Consider the Night Springs DLC (whose episodes pop up in the main game once it's been installed). Those were his previous attempts to reach out to potential allies--Rose, Jesse Faden and Tim Breaker--that got him nowhere. Saga was his first true success.
Remedy's games are a whole different genre tbh. No matter what they are, action, horror, or story-focused survival games, they all share the bizarre, Remedy touch. It's like its own sub-genre.
@@shpeenut I think aside from the unfortunate associations, there's another problem with Alan Wake 2: If you want a PRAYER of understanding it, you better have deep dived Remedy lore going all the way back to Death Rally including the games that "aren't in the Remedyverse" like Quantum Break. Compare the in game models of the actors in a Remedy Game to the rest of "AAA." If Ubisoft made Alan Wake, Saga would have gained a double wide face with no expression outside of her lower face and Alan would have a thousand yard stare and look like a cartoon.
Yeah, the whole team, from Sam Lake on down, has consistently acknowledged that. Alan's relatable but he's also a bit of a self-indulgent prick. Without other people in his life to anchor him, he just loses the plot (pun intended).

Saga's character is so unbelievably well written. Little theory I've had for the longest time is that since Saga was originally going to be portrayed as white, her original father might have been Tim Breaker instead of Warlin Door. I honestly prefer it being Door though. The sheer tension between Alan and Door because of this is fantastic. Saga's character over all is such a masterpiece in the final product. How's this for a theory: If we accept that Saga's granddad and great-uncle are reincarnations of their namesakes, then that would potentially make Door another Norse myth figure (recall the page Alan wrote where Odin lost his eye). To wit, Mir, guardian of the fountain of knowledge.

I had originally thought he was Loki since Loki also played with the Old Gods, his name was "Loki Darkens", and they call Warlin Door the "Dark One." Plus, we can see very clearly his musical expertise in Herald of Darkness. Also, the death of Baldur is what initiates Ragnarok, and if Odin and Tor are fighting against anyone, it seems like it might be Door. Then again, in Anger's Remorse they claim that they were the ones that drove Door away, not the other way around.
@@solidspooks1290 Door is neutral in the extreme. If he seems like a villain, it's because he has a far different set of priorities than the humans he deals with.
