I have my 1965 Slim going through the Revamp service at this very moment, and have been extremely impressed with the whole process. The communications are first-rate, and I can't wait to see the finished result.
1. I appreciate your honesty about the business side of what you do, some wet shavers forget that artisan providers provide a service that they need to sell to continue to provide those services. While older companies have an established reputation and brand and may not have to have the level of communication with the community you do. You could choose not to interact with us, and just provide a product and have us take it or leave it. 2. I just received my razor revamp back. I sent in a 1955 Blue-Tip Superspeed, during the process your customer service contacted me and stated the razor I sent in, after taking it apart, saw that the aluminum handle was falling apart internally. I received a call from your staff and they talked with me about options even offering to replace the razor with a matching one with better components. Fortunately for me this razor was not an heirloom, but the person on your staff immediately wanted to address that concern. Your staff really do care about the services you are providing to all of us. 3. Finally you choose to help your fellow artisan providers by producing videos about products that are in direct competition with your product provided by Rex and Razor Emporium. 👏 Kudos to you for trying to help everyone to move forward
I think a lot of people don't understand economies of scale on things like a razor. Or why a machined TTO would be prohibitively expensive, more so than your current Rex Razors. Machining a TTO razor head that's as slim as a Gillette Slim is no easy feat. The doors on a Rockwell T2 are super chunky compared to any stamped brass door. Quite frankly I'm impressed that you and your machine shop can make profit at your current prices for the Rex razors. At least on the CNC milling equipment the process of re-tooling is just a matter of keystrokes rather than partially disassembling stamping machines and reassembling them then calibrating the timing and positioning of all of the dies. I use Rain-X Anti-Fog for my mirror. It works great and lasts until the mirror is cleaned with glass cleaner.
i just purchased the rex envoy going from plastic disposable razors to the envoy is like going from a pushbike to the star ship enterprise its perfectly machined stainless steel and can be equipped with the blade of choice with good shaving soap and a bit more care while still learning this is the best way to shave!
Congrats - you're the winner of the Weekly T-Shirt give-away! Please contact us at help@razoremporium.com with your address and size and we will get it shipped out right away! Thanks everyone! Stay tuned next week for another giveaway! - Razor Emporium Team
Yes Matt I have REX and find it really good but sadly second only to my Feather AS-D@ and one of your refurbed Gillette Black beauty so an adjustable REX would be interesting. I agree that producing one in the US would be cost prohibitive to a point but as my late father used to say any tools and suchlike are always top products which are made in the USA. Now as for anti fogging I find normal hand soap wiped on the mirror stops this for some time - you may have to redo it just put the soap on the mirror and then wipe reasonably clean - very cheap way of doing it. My Mum used to use a cut potato to do the same LOL!!
I was just thinking about the last meetup and the possibility of the next meetup this morning when I grabbed the 2023 Meetup sample! Thanks for the video.
Excellent enjoyable demonstrations; thank you. I have a Merkur Progress cream-coloured bakelite three-piece adjustable razor, no longer made since over sixty years. The closed-comb guard on one side seems warped in its outer third (the blade gap becomes larger, and sorry I do not know how to attach a photo). The unique vintage razor otherwise shaves well, but I winder if any remedy is available to rectify the warped bakelite? Thank you.
The longer I'm into wet shaving, and the more razors I get, the more I appreciate the Gillette Tech. So many modern razors are "too" _____, and only appeal to people on either side of the mild to wild spectrum, but not the middle. Anybody of any skill level can get a decent shave with a Tech, and they're so cheap! If you make an adjustable GEM, I'll name my firstborn Rex.
Asking Gillette if they'd ever make safety razors again is to their ears asking, "Would you ever consider releasing a product with far lower profit margins than you're getting now, with much more effort?"
Hi. Would you please do a full disassembly and re assembly video of the REX Ambassador and how to break the LochTite (hair dryer?) for cleaning and maintenance? I know that it's not "needed" but always fun to know what we are working with.
although I shave in the shower, my mirror over the sink doesn't fog because I keep it clean and because I have a vent and a ceiling exhaust fan. so it isn't fogged when I get out of the shower.
Hey guys thanks for the great videos 👍 My question is when did gillette start making the three piece mini travel razors? I have been seeing them at the flee market and antique stores. ( I had to stop myself after the 2nd one😂 but love the mildness of shave paired with the gillette platinum) Thanks
Matt you Video’s are always great, I alway learn a thing or two from you? I have a question as I recently visited your shop. How are you so lucky to have staff that is knowledgeable & is friendly. Your lucky to have good people.👍 Hope you have Meetup at your shop, I do no do Facebook. Marked all Sats in February on caliinder. Until date is firm.
Would Razor Emporium ever come out with its own version of a multi blade cartridge razor? I imagine a REX Cartridge head would glide along smoothly and would be well engineered enough to reduce ingrown hairs on the lower neck.
When I went diving we would spit in our masks and rub it around to keep them from fogging up. Have not tried it on a mirror. Might have dry mouth by the time you're done lol.
Great video, very good and interesting information, as well as entertaining. It would be awesome if P&G would re-release the Fatboy. Now your viewers know it will never happen. Thanks! Have a great weekend!
The thing is most people probably don't even know that DE is a thing. There would have to be a massive marketing campaign to change that, and Gillette are not going to do that.

The anti-fogging discussion about eight to nine minutes on the timeline of video is great.
Matt I just got my 1961 fatboy back from your revamp service! You guys did an amazing job, I just wanted to say thank you! What a perfect razor!
Our pleasure!
Informative, Matt...Interesting take on manufacturing.
Matt I will be a customer as soon as your Rex TTO is available. Keep up your incredible work!
Awesome! Thank you!

I've been holding off on owning a Rex razor until you guys offered a TTO one. I'm glad someone was thinking the same thing about the Rex TTO.
interesting conversation Matt, regards Mr Straight Razor
i just purchased the rex envoy

I love your videos. I just wish they were muuuuuch longer
Great one Matt, thank you!
TTO Konsul made of Titanium!! There are several anti-fog things- Divers mask, and even take a peeled potato to wipe the mirror.
Keep these Q&A videos Matt! Really enjoyed it.
I really like having a Q&A video like this. Lots of fun to watch
A shower squeegee comes in handy for the foggy mirror. I also use to clean my blades so they don’t dull and to clean up the sink when I’m done.
Congrats - you're the winner of the Weekly T-Shirt give-away! Please contact us at help@razoremporium.com with your address and size and we will get it shipped out right away! Thanks everyone! Stay tuned next week for another giveaway! - Razor Emporium Team
A bit of shaving cream (use some cheap Barbasol) on your mirror. Wipe in on, wipe it off, and it will be fog free for about a week.

Having an extractor fan in your bathroom keeps that place bone dry and without any fogged mirrors.

Howdy Matt and Co! Great Q&A session. I enjoy these.
I just sent my Merkur 37C in for a 24 karat gold revamp.
Have a blessed weekend.
👊🏼🤠
I didn't know they can revamp a merkur 37c

A dab of lather on a steamy mirror and wiped while shaving clears it and stops it re-fogging
Asking Gillette if they'd ever make safety razors again is to their ears asking, "Would you ever consider releasing a product with far lower profit margins than you're getting now, with much more effort?"
Exactly
They are going to lose money anyway d.e razors are becoming more popular every year. people don't want to spend 30 dollars on 5 pack of blades
Hi. Would you please do a full disassembly and re assembly video of the REX Ambassador and how to break the LochTite (hair dryer?) for cleaning and maintenance? I know that it's not "needed" but always fun to know what we are working with.
Good idea

Great tip!
An old technique for stopping fog in a divers mask is to spit on the interior glass and rub it around, it works.

Started in the 50's.

I wanted to say that you can just open the door to solve the fogged up mirror right before you said it LOL
Personally I’m looking forward to a non-adjustable slant safety razor
Would Razor Emporium ever come out with its own version of a multi blade cartridge razor?
I imagine a REX Cartridge head would glide along smoothly and would be well engineered enough to reduce ingrown hairs on the lower neck.
No.
If you are building a house, get a fan so there is no steam😂
Hi Matt
Would ever you do a Rex razor that comes packaged in let’s say a Gillette heritage style clam shell box thanks Stan
No. Because all those boxes are made in China.
Hey Matt any chance of a Rex single edge razor?
Maybe some day
@@RazorEmporiumthat would be very interesting imao.
When I went diving we would spit in our masks and rub it around to keep them from fogging up. Have not tried it on a mirror. Might have dry mouth by the time you're done lol.
What's your opinion on Gillette mach 3?
3 is better than 5 but not as good as 1 :)
Great video, very good and interesting information, as well as entertaining.
It would be awesome if P&G would re-release the Fatboy. Now your viewers know it will never happen.
Thanks!
Have a great weekend!
Get it manufactured in Mexico
I'm leaving a comment down below to enter and win a Razor Emporium T-shirt
Mirror Problem -> Hair Dryer
I think gillette will eventually switch back to d.e razors because cartridges are soo expensive they are losing their appeal especially with inflation
False. They are never going back. They have the good news plastic disposable for cheap.
The thing is most people probably don't even know that DE is a thing. There would have to be a massive marketing campaign to change that, and Gillette are not going to do that.
