I own the only private property on Cox Lake. the cabin high at the rock at the far end of the lake opposite Dear Bay Creek. Had it since 1985. Great place to go. My children grew up on it.

That sucks that you have to be picked a sight to camp- I was there in mid to late 80s when you can just go wherever you wanted. I was in my mid teens then with my dad, brother, my cousin, and a friend of mine. Cox lake back then was very remote in comparison to today and the portages were a lot more rough cutting through with our 2 conoes loaded with 2 weeks of camping gear and supplies to carry us through. Back then, it was literally the middle of nowhere!

I do the same trip once a year from long lake to cox. I love the lily pad lake (I call it that)

Very nice work. As a long time KWHL camper (over 25 years now), I think your video did a good job of capturing the feel of the area!

There are only a handful of portages within the park that are close to or over 1000m in length. for extended trips, it's likely best to explore the lakes south and west of Long Lake. New sites and portages were added this year to Mountain, Sparkler and Agate Lakes. You have lot's of options. The park has maps online which you can view during the reservation process.

This video as well as others inspired me to get out there myself. June 7th-8th visited Cold Lake at KHPP. Videos were helpful, inspirational and mist of all, hella fun. You inspired me to do the same with my sons.

I did this route mainly because of your video. It was quite fun and did it in approximately 3 hours. There were four dams to lift over at the beaver pond. We stayed at site 524. It's up high which was cool yet still easy to load and unload our craft. We checked out other sites, one had a small basket ball net nailed to a tree, one had a actual toilet seat on the privy box lmao. Thanks for all the information, Oh ya and Cox lake was considerably windy, but we did see a bald eagle there.

Loved watching this video. Thanks for sharing. Can you please let me know what is the model of the GoPro stick attached to the boat at @3:33? I use a gooseneck but I want to have a little more height to it.

Glad you had a great trip! It seems that quite a few of the privy's have toilet seats too. Great sighting in the bald eagle!

I was there when it was camping at your own risk with my dad and brothers. there were no cabins or given camp sights. very remote and basically had the entire lake to ourselves then

Are there any camp sites you can access without a canoe in the Kawartha Highlands? Overnight hiking?

Yes and no. officially there are none, but you can hike some of the ATV trails to sites on Sucker Lake, North Rathburn or The Mississauga River. There are a few other ones too.
