  • Was gifted with beautiful weather at the beginning of November so I decided to go out on an overnight trip to Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park in Southern Ontario to do the serpentine Lake loop. I paddled through Anstruther Lake, Rathbun, Serpentine, Copper lakes. The park is a good way to get into the backcountry without needing to drive too far from Toronto.

Yes, it is a very nice area and closer to home for me here in Toronto.
But if you're planning a longer trip going up to Temagami or northern Ontario would be even nicer with less crowds and cottages.

All the campsites on serpentine lake look really nice and open. I was on the island campsite. No fire wood though.

we have yet to make it out to this park, but its looking like we might have to pay it a visit! Looks like a great adventure at a unique time of year. We aren't sure if we should be excited for these warm November days or concerned for planet earth, hahaha

It's a nice park, worth it to go take a look. The access lakes are lined with cottages though so you really need to get further into the backcountry if you want some solitude.
I tried to book a site in the summer but it is always fully booked every weekend!! So this is my first time out to Kawarthas this year.
As for the weather, I hear you, seeing such warm temps in November tells me global warming is happening as a fast rate. Or maybe it's just unseasonably warm (considering there was a snow storm the following week) 🥶

Nice little trip , too bad no fish . Never been to that park. Any more info on 'that' lake we were chatting about ?

Yeah, i was hoping to catch something but no luck. I tried to dig around for some worms in the forest but couldn't find any to add to the spoon/fly. A whole box from the bait shop is too many worms for me on a short trip 😂.
It's a good park, but really hard to book in the spring and summer. I tried booking earlier in the year and no luck, solid every weekend. The access lakes are lined with cottages but once you get back into the backcountry it is nice. Portages are short and easy.
Check out fish-Online there's two small back lakes a short bushwhack off Rathbun. Rathbun is also a year round open season for Lakers, I had one follow back to the dock but didn't commit.
Haven't had time to search 'that' lake but I think I will go there next spring (probabaly off video)

@@DerekSOutdoors Don't know if you will use this new road that comes near 'that' lake or follow my route . Can give the best directions/map I can. This lake is more suited to your abilities

@@alexs3447 I've been looking at some of the satellite images and there's a few back lakes there to explore and roads/trails so probably going to head in there with a map, compass and GPS next year and do some exploring which I enjoy.
