- Better than Wolves is over a Decade Old and is IMPOSSIBLY Difficult. Its quite hard on its own, but it was designed for you to die in a couple times to progress apparently. So, if you turn this BUSTED Modpack on Hardcore it becomes one of the hardest things known to man.

This mod inspired a lot of minecraft's development (It had the hopper, concrete, anvils before they became official), it was the first tech mod, It's weird to see that it's turned into something like this.

Better than Wolves is hard but there's harder packs out there. Off the top of my head, 1000 years after the apocalypse is basically impossible and despite having a fair few downloads, there's no recorded full playthrough of it anywhere. Waiting to see someone do it though.
Gonna start with Journey Beyond the Abyss, that 800-2000 hours time completion estimate sounds lovely :)

An annoying modpack is one which has a high time requirement, where it’s difficulty comes from how long a task takes, which can’t be sped up, and where certain punishments are unavoidable
Many modpack are a mix of this, where certain aspects are annoying and others are difficult
I have a feeling the modder fully understood that what they were doing was more annoying than difficult.
BTW is actually difficult and not annoying imo, RLcraft is annoying and easy

There is currently a modern version of what essentially is Better than wolves and RLCraft in developed by a game designer but its still closed aplha since getting custom edits approved in curseforge is a nightmare but if you ever need content i can ask for early acess might be funny for content :D

gregtech new horizons takes over 6000 hours to complete

@TdLmcwastaken while that may be true its certainly a contributing factor. the longer it takes to complete a pack, the longer you are in a section of it. Gregtech new horizons is still a hard pack with difficult mechanics and challenging monsters will keep you in phases where it is truly challenging to survive for long periods of time
@@TdLmcwastakenI'd say that due to the insane level of complexity GT:NH still manages to be almost as kf not more difficult. The amount of knowledge needed to beat the pack is wild.

People gotta differentiate between grindy and actually hard.
Another piece of advice if you keep playing. Just in case you try to do it. Mobs can spawn in slabs and other non full blocks. So no half slab floors to prevent mob spawn. But on the plus side, mob spawning depends on material, not on if the block is a full block or not. so replacing the floor with anything wood based will work to mob proof your base bafore you have permanent light.
Same happens once you reach the nether, in the nether, mobs will only spawn on netherrack and netherbrick, so replacing areas with stone will mob proof it.

Animals get scared when you place/destroy blocks near them. You can dig out a hole far away and push cows in though!

How long did you actually spent on that run? Because I feel like the thumbnail may be an exaggeration but if it is real i may not wanna try that kodpack D:
This specific run is like 6ish hours maybe 7? I do the total hours for the thumbnail since it is a running series and all runs combined it took me 20 hours to reach the point of making iron nuggets 💀 (I also did a full blind run which is why it took so long tbh - read the wiki to not spend that amount of time haha)
i believe "Dawn of Horror" is harder... it only has like 9 downloads or so... i do believe its way harder tho

This can't be the hardest so let's see what mod pack is actually the hardest.
(Note: Better Than Wolves doesn't have quest books, so I'll treat the other mod packs like if they don't have quest books either)
I'll try to analyze difficulty in 4 metrics:
-Time
-Complexity
-Survival
-Tediousness (aka annoying)
For time, Better Than Wolves definitely isn't the hardest as GT:NH takes 8000 hours to complete. For complexity Better Than Wolves still isn't the hardest as Technological Journey is way more complex, having absurd chemistry and 1000 step crafting recipes. Survival is kind of a tie between the terrafirmacraft mod packs as both have difficult survival mechanics, but I think that terrafirmagreg is the hardest in term of survival as it has the Better Than Wolves things and it also has more realistic and difficult survival mechanics such as many more bars like water. For tediousness I think it is better than wolves as the pretty difficult survival with hardcore is very annoying. I think that GTNH is the hardest as it takes a long time, is pretty complex, has difficult survival in the early game, and is decently annoying due to machine explosions.

modpack creators do not understand good difficulty infernal origins is literally the only good hard modpack
I based hardest in terms of raw survival, so gregtech and the complex tech ones don't really count to me as they just seem like a whole different breed. Although, I will see how bad terrafirmacraft is so thanks for the suggestion! Gonna do a blind run of it and see how much worse it can be!

Apparently it is an issue with Nvidia Trying to Apply a antiscopic filter or somethin, might be changed in the control panel or Geforce EXP (someone told me but I forgot and haven't done it yet haha)

Its hard and actually kinda fun if you like a real challenge. It punishes you for the smallest mistakes which is something I never experienced in minecraft and I love it weirdly enough. It is a bit tedious but its not that bad. It only seems really annoying because it is really easy to make a mistake and die, meaning you have to grind all the stuff for another 10 minutes (boohoo)
