Hi I have a forester 2001 and star to show the engine light.I read the codes and said misfire in cylinder 1 and 3 .I change the spark plugs wires and coilpack and nothing I check the timing chain and look ok . The car run fine but I don’t know what to do next. Do you know if maybe is the ecu ? Thanks
What are the different ways to even tune a gc8? I've been told by many people my 97 gc8 isn't possible to tune and I need to go standalone... But I'd rather not pay like 3k to tune this car lol.
Hey I got a question... I got a.coolant leak.coming from above where the oil filter sit but the coolant is dripping from the timing cover. Do u think it would be a head gasket leak
Yes, it could be. But could also be coming from somewhere above that’s hard to see. Try to verify that it’s not coming from any of the upper coolant pipes or hoses. You can also verify the head gaskets are leaking using special testing solution for the coolant.
Yes, there are. Check out my videos from about a year ago, where I dive into all the coolant flow paths. Those videos will give you more information than you ever wanted to know!!!
I know this was 2 years ago but the prices are crazy now. I have a jdm ej205 acvs manual. The jdm shop wants $175 shipping is included but man $80 was a steal then
What about the oem immobilizer ? Will your origina key start with a different ecu ? Or you don’t have a chip in your key ? And if you canceled the oem immobilizer please let me know how , thanks
Hey what’s up man - hell yea I remember! Cool! Yep, it’s an annoying law that’s a little ridiculous. High probability I’ll have to buy a new one - we’ll see!
I’m looking to do a full sti swap on my automatic gc8 and have some ECU questions. I want to get JDM ej207 with a 6 speed transmission. Would I need a JDM ECU as well? Looking forward to seeing more videos as I am working on a similar project!
This build sounds awesome! I think you need a JDM ECU (with manual trans) but I’m really not 100% sure. Just not something I’ve dealt with before. I bet Brian at iWire can help you, he’s and expert on these ECU, sensor, wiring, and JDM vs USDM interchangeability. Here’s the link: www.iwireservices.com/ Hope this helps, cheers buddy!!! 👍
I guess I never heard about the ecu having to be completely free of ever having a tune for BAR these days. My understanding from someone else was that the dealer just needs to verify its running a stock and latest ROM, but sounds like that’s changed. I’m just glad i got BAR’d back in 05 before they introduced that nonsense lol.
I hear you. That’s just what I’ve been told by others who have gone through BAR in recent months, but I’ll been verifying all of this first hand in coming weeks. Stay tuned, should be interesting!
No needs stock tune. The flash on your 16 bit vs 2006 an up 32 bit. Don’t have enough memory to keep a bank on how many tunes. And so long as you keep your map serial number on file your fine. That’s what the bar looks for as the software has a serial number vs just stock map
Honestly that’s so dumb. Because certain Subarus had to go back to dealer to be tuned due to issues in a lean tune from factory. That’s Cali Florida all over the country. Just cause it’s been tune doesn’t mean the factory tune can’t be put back.
Hey man i recently turboed my 1995 subaru impreza outback 1.8ej 5speed an I'm trying to get opinions on what i should do ecu wise. I wanted to keep my stock ecu. An keep it budget but healthy. The goal is 10 pounds of boost. I really want to tune it myself. Just not sure how yet.
Is there anyway to tell what each of those plugs is connected to. Meaning does one harness clip separate, for the engine, one plug is trans related, one is body related ?? I’m doing a manual swap on an 04 wrx and have a spare harness and wanted to know if I can transplant part of the manual harness while being plug and play
No easy way to tell the difference. Only good way I know of is to use the FSM wiring diagrams and just slowly pull everything out one sensor at a time.
only the 06+wrx 05+sti has an immobilizer. There is no way around it. You need the key, the antanna and ecu paired. If they aren't you can take it to a subaru dealer o program it
so there is another big difference between the usdm and edm models my 04 sti has an immobilizer and it was a bitch to get right since you cant rewrite the keys that often
brand new = i would bite the bullet and buy the new one - new warranty never used ! fully the choice for me only ! so removing the ECU = i hope everyone disconnected their battery = i know off course you did !
@@SubaruONLY wow that sucks in 3 years no gas cars thats stupid well man you have it all planned to move out in 3 years? Come to Texas where you can straight pipe your car and no one cares!

Long term goals have the best reward - keep pushing and get that baby done!!! 👊 For the head gasket leak, I like to verify it two ways, (1) leak down test, (2) indicator fluid for combustion gases in the coolant - they sell it on Amazon or harbor freight. It’s a testing kit for about $40 I believe. You run the car till it’s hot and likely leaking, then draw in some coolant into the testing chamber that changes color when it reacts with combustion gases. Good luck! 👍
Damn cali is really turning into a garbage state for car guys! Glad I'm in FL! Also if anyone is looking for a untuned ecu wrx 5 speed I got one, I'm going with a aftermarket ecu so I don't need it anymore.

Hi.i have a 1999 GF impreza. There is no transmission ecu.Maybe i couldnt find it?? Need some help
Where should the ECM be on a JDM GF8? Is it under the drivers side on the right?
Sweet fozzy. U ever had to swap ecu in a SH or SJ that needed vin number programmed to match the key and dash?
Not yet!!! Hoping never to need to also 😂
Amazing guide and straightforward instructions thank you

I may be wrong, but I believe this Ver7 doesn’t have an immobilizer.
Can you open an ecu and replace thermal compound
Don’t see why not? To help cooling?
I will definetly need to ensure the ecu I pick up doesn’t have any tunes on it, also I bought the cross member from you if you remember lol

Got it from an eBay guy selling OEM carpets for about $300. Think they’re also the dealer Heuberger Subaru - big dealer in Colorado, USA.

i like the hydraulic hood struts, aftermarket - would like to do the same to my 1999 B4 RSK

cant you flash an oem tune on any ecu?
