Commercials on US TV: one third about junk food that make you sick, one third about pharma products that are supposed to cure, one third about lawyers who tell you to press charge against junk food and pharma companies.
😂😂😂👍👍👍👍
The American way.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@vincentv.9729:
Isn't that enough to make a person sick?
Almost 💯 except I've never in my life seen a legal ad over junk food, guy.
His little grunts and sighs and groans make him so human and relatable and likeable!
I agree, it always gives him this kind of "I am usually shy, but I am gonna speak now" vibe
it kinda makes me nervous cos im an introvert and I know how easy others will just run u over when u try to speak ur mind or a story cos people mostly will not listen unless ur the center of the room and speak loud and proud.
I think it’s on purpose, part of what makes him so funny.
It reminds me of Yoda
Spot on indeed! ❤
He may be joking, but he addressed a very serious topic, how commercials brainwash people.
Totally!
Well there's that...but more so it's a comment on American privatised free market healthcare & the oversized role of pharmaceutical companies in healthcare provision..We Europeans find it shocking that Pharma companies are allowed to advertise prescription drugs to the public at all. We have brainwashing commercials too, but just not when it comes to health. Some things are too important to be left to the free market, believe it or not.
It's funny 'cause it's true.
I was blown away when I heard Mark Cuban in shark tank saying that "you go to doctor and then you tell the doctor that you want antibiotics, and doctor should give you those." That is the sickest thing I have ever heard. You do not decide when you need antibiotics, or any other medicine which you can't get without perscription. That's why there are doctors, they decide the best medication for the problem, not you. At least in my country, which is not USnA
That's indeed a very serious and exceptionally dangerous thing, especially when certain nations are so easily influenced by the news, commercials and politicians. There's too much information around these days and people simply can't think themselves anymore.
The greatest cultural shock of my life was when I arrived in North America the first time in 1984 and saw the farmaceutical commercials. I thought they were unbelievably unethical, and I still do. It tells a lot of Ismo’s genius that he can derive comedy from them.
USA is the reason why I love TV shows, USA is also the reason why I hate watching TV. they make great TV shows, but the lamest ads. they're so lame it's like they intentionally compete to be the lamest. thank goodness for on-demand streaming service.
I mean prescription drugs can’t legally have commercials in Canada so I guess you mean the US and Mexico
Same. Extremely unethical and it popped out to me only days after arriving. I still refuse to even listen to one - I feel infuriated
@@GrammeStudio they only export to the world their best work. Their shitty commercials and shitty health system are only seen from the inside of the US 😂
Prescription drugs can't be advertised to the general public here in Australia either.
The side effects of watching ISMO clips: improved mood, sudden bursts of laughter, and belly pain (from all the laughter).
Are the author of Tulyaki reforms?..
😂 So true! I had belly pain and shortness of breath from laughing!
Also, soreness in cheeks
Dont forget difficulty breathing, anal leakage and urinary incontinence.
(From all the laughter) ?
DUDE ! ! ! You are by far one of the most hilarious comedians of this day and age. In a world where hate and division is so prevalent, you sir are at the top of my list of favorite comedians of all time! Thank you !
I have never heard of a more educational comedy in my life. Thx Ismo!
If you care for educational comedy, have fun falling into a George Carlin rabbit hole.
Try some George Carlin, he'll change your life
George Carlin is funny comedian in a way that he barely even told jokes, just truths
Try Carlin
I stopped watching TV like 20 years ago and only watch it occasionally when visiting friends or my parents. and WOW! the amount of stupidity, commercials, brainwashing and more stupidity is really astonishing. how can people stand this?
You are wise.
I haven't had a TV since 1996 myself! 📺
Such a waste of time! There's so much to do, where do people find the time to watch TV!!? 🤔😝💋
Same here.
It's shocking.
I also got on my brother's laptop a few months ago to show him something, and discovered what a computer without a VPN and adblock, using all google products, looks like these days. I was like: "You don't have to live like this, you know."
I unplugged 15 years ago.
I've always said that comedians speak kernels of truth and Ismo just spit out a solid nugget of advice.
Those ads have been on American tv for decades. I have been saying for decades " if you wish to live do not take this".
Majority of the bits by the greatest comedian of all time, George Carlin were social criticism.
Also lots of lawyers advising on American tv. Never seen this in Europe, which is more about dishwasher soap and floor mops.
I absolutely love that ISMO can illuminate this in such a humorous way. I live in Canada, and thus have been exposed to a lot of American TV, and it's still mind blowing when I see prescription drug advertisement to the general public. I think "how the hell is this legal?" and then realize that they also allow unlimited private and corporate money in political advertising and it all comes back full circle. In Canada we even have strict laws about how pharmaceutical companies can "advertise" directly to doctors.
The advertisers are lawyers that want to represent you when you contract such ailments.
So how much the TV in America differs from the TV in Russia? Big money propaganda ruling in the both countries.
@@fellow7091 Well, in Russia the TV is under strict government control and the propaganda is very strong even in the news. There is no free news or media in Russia. So that's quite a big difference . . .

He's actually right. I stopped watching TV in 'Murica after my 1st trip. Those commercials are so bad. One time, there was an advert for a drug for reckless foot symdrom. I started to feel that I had that disease and I'm a paraplegic!!!
Lmao
Its a valid point. I've seen some of those commercials - they always end with "Ask your doctor about xantaclonoxita" or some drug. Why the hell would i need to ask my doctor about that?
So your doctor can get kickback bribe money for it....
@@georgi9514true
I've started watching the FOX live NASCAR broadcasts over the internet recently, and that is true. Half of the commercials seem to be for medicine and the other half is fast food. Maybe just have less of the latter so you wouldn't need so much of the former?
You have to start somewhere.
Maybe the fast food commercials should mention the side effects, too.
That was one of the best monologs i have ever heard on so many levels, mostly comical but deep (ass) well
Fantastic observational humour and delivery.
As a Finn I seriously envy Ismo about speaking English so fluently and still sounding unerringly... Finn.
The most inexplicable for me is when they talk in a highly positive way about a drug without ever actually saying what it is supposed to do AND THEN ENCOURAGE YOU TO TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT IT. I"m pretty sure that doctors are getting pretty sick about patients wanting them to explain what some completely *random* drug does.
Genius. Netflix needs this guy. They have so many mediocre stand up comedians, they need Ismo.
Agreed no swearing no racism just funny shit.
100% true. I'm glad to see a comic who's sharing some revealing insights about corporate media. And badass hilarious t'boot!
I agree. I try to with pay for commercial free or mute the commercials as often as possible. It’s something that should be on. We shouldn’t be advertising drugs, the doctors should be the ones to recommend what we need.
Ismo makes you wanna learn his language just to go watch his homeland content
Actually most of his non- Finnish language jokes are about the stupidity of the English language. So listening to his shows in Finland is quite different re the subject matter.
@@piretreiljan9398 Totally untrue. If you don't understand the language it's fine, just don't make up shit like this..
Ismo delivers yet again!
Such a great comedian! Part of what makes him funnier is the break in his voice while telling his jokes.
Hit the nail on the head. EDIT: THANK YOU FOR THE NEW UPLOAD! You’re one of my favorite comedians.
As a Norwegian living in the US, I also gave up watching US television. It felt like 75% was commercials to me. And oh my God all those pill commercials. Initially when I came I could not fathom why all Americans I met where so knowledgable about drugs. I had reflux and nobody in my native Norway knew anything about that or the pills to use. In the US it felt like anybody on the street could list 5 different pills suitable for that condition. It was like being in a country where everybody had some sort of medical degree.
After watching American television, I began realizing why everybody in the US is so knowledgeable about drugs. That is what they spend most of their time learning about. Especially pain killers. My God Americans know their pain killers and gobble them like candy. The insane pain killer usage in the US suggest that all those ads are not healthy at all. I am not kidding. I actually predicted the opioid crisis BEFORE it happened. I told myself: "All this painkiller usage is going to very wrong some day."
It's a state run by modern drug mafias. TV gets income from that. Politicians get money from drug companies. So...
Erik. 100%. Did arrive same year -84.
Did have SAS flight from Oslo to NYC Kennedy. From Ismo country, being Finland. D plane crashed or at least did overrun the runaway to Jamaica bay.Bay..

Ismo, you are one of the funniest people I've ever known. Thank You for sharing your gift!
new ismo content is truly one of god's gifts
those laughs he makes in between are lovely.
I can relate. United States tv medicine commercials are always a weird thing to Europeans... 😂
Something has to pay for the programming! Since there are no TV Licenses for people to pay, they have to watch the commercials which are actually paying for the shows. Also, since a lot of the shows Europeans watch too, are produced in America - so they are much cheaper just to buy in Europe and elsewhere than to produce. I don't mean to be a downer.... I love Ismo, and his fantastic content for jokes, but sometimes feel that many of my Finnish friends (I was born in Finland, and have lived the in the US for decades) question me about the expensive hospitals and short maternity leaves.... Well, nothing is FREE and somehow we all have to pay for it all!
@@JaanaG2005 You're hilarious!
@@JaanaG2005 You're correct, nothing is free....On average Americans pay more for their healthcare than virtually any other developed country. Private health insurance is a virtual tax, with profits for the insurance company syphoned off the top of course, & little public oversight.. BTW your former countrymen have roughly a two year longer lifespan than Americans...
Finnish commercials are a weird thing to Russians..
@@andr_sh why?
I wish he’d release more English standup. His style of comedy is very unique and hilarious.

I'm canadian, and he's right; American TV is so weird to watch because it's half pharmaceutical commercials
You need DRUGS
I watched american TV once through some pirate stream. 11 minutes of content, 14 minutes of ads, 11 minutes of content, 14 minutes of ads. Like clockwork.
this is wonderful! I came to this video for a college assignment about pharmaceutical commercials and my thoughts are identical to him! I just have to convert all of this to a minimum 2 sheet job! LOL
Ismo is such a clever and observant comedian. Everyone loves him.
Sending love from IRAN. You are the one making me laugh.
Awesome as always.
Kiitos Ismo :) Oot niin maailman hauskin koomikko.
The United States and New Zealand are the only countries in the world that permit the advertising of prescription drugs to the public 🧐
We constantly see them in Canada too, only because have many American tv channels available to us.
If I were given 50 options I wouldn't have guessed NZ have same issues with pharma commercials.
Had to look it up.. Fucking crazy shit
Russia also
Yeah, but New Zealand has a public health system with a single buyer for pretty much the entire country with some minor exceptions. This means that while pharma companies are nominally allowed to advertise, in reality doing so would be just a waste of advertising dollars for them because no one actually buys what they're advertising.
He nailed it. In a one minute commercial they spend 30 seconds talking about how great the drug is and the last 30 seconds listing how it can harm you.
I love that a pretty cliche subject can be so funny and fresh through Ismo's perspective. He's infectious.
Ask your doctor if infectious Ismo is right for you
Ismo “is mo” funny than most other comics. Hauska jätkä! 🇫🇮❤️
ISMO is the BEST comedian these days! Sorry ISMO that was a compliment! 😂
I Googled my symptoms and I found that I’m 13 months pregnant!
I googled my side effects and found out I'm taking Viagra!
That is somewhat remarkable. I mean, for a man.
There is a new emoji for ya.
One of the funniest comedians I’ve heard in a LONG time. I really enjoy your content brother. The world needs more laughs right now. Thank you for bringing laughter to us all.
He's not wrong. Funny, but not wrong. I don't think Americans truly realize just how bizarre it is to have TV commercials for things like pharmaceuticals, or lawyers e.g.. I suppose it's ironic, that in the country that brought you "the war on drugs", all manner of legal dope can be pushed on prime time TV.
I guess pharmaceutical commercials are just a side effect of not having universal healthcare 🤷♂
He's got the best timing.
In Australia, we have a few medication commercials for basic things like Panadol or Sore throat lozenges or indigestion but not many and they don't have these weird disclaimer voices at the end with the side effects. The first time I saw one of these U.S commercials it was very weird and confronting.
Not in Canada either. I can live happily without itching eyeballs.😅
Hilarious as always ISMO😂 From Norway 🇳🇴
FINLAND!!!
@@whollyman I am from Norway😂
Yes! That's so true. Why do I need to know about a new drug for a disease I don't even have. Let doctor's tell their patients. Hilarious!
And pharmaceutical reps are the ones who are supposed to be selling and advertising the drugs to the doctors. So why are those commercials even on TV? 😶
@@thrillyria I have no idea, but they're obviously worth all the money spent (somehow). They simply wouldn't advertise them on TV if it meant net loss when it comes to profits.
That's so weird.
So that while you're watching TV, you can get those magical THOUGHTS OF SUICIDE...
@@mikitz I think they are bribing the media. Lots of advertisements means that the media considers twice before reporting stories that are negative to their biggest paycheck.
"That was not the TV..." *reps*
The commercials are out of control here in the US. Live TV is basically unwatchable.
This is extremely good observation comedy. Bravo Ismo, you made me think. I also have that strong urge now!
I was inspired by all the side effects 🤣🤣🤣
Ismo you're fantastic, keep up the great work.
ISMO combines on-point witty commentary about the crazy things in modern life, with a genuinely human kindness. It's a counter-march on a lot of modern standup which is hard, unforgiving and bitter.
We’ve banned commercials for tobacco product, but not big pharma ads. I expect my doctor to know about what drugs I may, or may not, need. The whole concept of marketing drugs to the “public” is unfathomable. Just another example of how screwed up this country is …
Ismo, you are absolutely hilarious. New fan from London UK - doing any tours over here? Come to town!
love your work! much love from austria!
I don't even understand why these commercials are allowed.
Commercials for car tyres, ok, I suppose.
But those pills you can buy without a doctor's diagnoses...
If you combine some of those, you can go from quite healthy to... quiet dead ? Less living ?
You can also land your helicopter at the shopping mall if you wish. Things are quite different in the U.S.
Haha that is a very good point about prescription medicine!! Love your jokes!
This guy is really really funny 😂😂😂. I start watching his clips. Brilliant.
Hahaha. You're one of my favourite comedians
Ismo is gold, and behind the jokes always a serious afterthought
Ismo, I like your material. You're a good guy!
I really enjoy ISMO delivery style
True. I hate farmaceutical commercials. You are not supposed to go to the doctor and tell them what to prescribe. I also came from another country and such commercials are unthinkable.
The first time I saw American TV and those medicine commercials, I thought it was some kind of joke. Very bizarre commercials indeed...
One of the most brilliant criticism skits of the pharma complex!
Your comedy is always brilliant, so spot on 🤣
Okay, I just had a realization. I have seen many short videos of this comedian on RUclips and enjoy his humor. But something kept tickling at the back of my brain making me wonder why he sounds so familiar, as if telling me that his foreigner in a foreign land act reminds me of something very similar that I've seen and heard in the past. And just now listening to him talk, I suddenly realized who he reminds me of. He reminds me of Balki Bartokomous from the Greek Island of Mypos! His tone and way of speaking reminds me so much of Balki from "Perfect Strangers". The only thing that's missing in his act is the celebratory Mypos "dance of joy".
Now I understand why there is so much hate on "big pharma" in the US.
Ismo this joke aged like fine wine 🏅
I love your humor! Hoping you will come to the US to tour again soon...
Thanks for sharing this with us Ismo, much appreciated!
A commercial just can't be the first point of contact for treating high cholesterol. "Ask your doctor about Lipitor!" or something similar. The Finnish saying of going up a tree ass first is an appropriate description for this 😂
Those ads have been on American tv for decades. I have been saying for decades " if you wish to live do not take this".
An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but you cant miss and have to throw hard.
Love your stuff Ismo! Thanks so much. Hope to see you ‘in person’ (hah, “Alive) someday!
Ismo has a very good point in a serious matter. America is where I live and they get so intense about side effects and make you worry so much about your health. Not only those commercials but everything we read on the internet, the stories, and the articles. it's a wonder we are not all hypochondriacs. Maybe all of us are.
Carlin
Funniest man alive! Would love to see him some day.
We don't get pharma commercials here in Australia and I hope we never do. Although admittedly I don't watch much TV. Perhaps they have them late ant night 🤔
and before the commercial break, you will be told what will happen. After the break, will tell you what happened before the break. Actually, the series makes very little progress per episode.
So that is why some American episodes last only 30 minutes here! Half of their time is for commercials!
literraly, the US and New Zealand are the only two countries on the surface of the Earth to allow prescribed drug commercials.
So true!! 🤣 The commercial be like "you may not even know you have it but that's a symptom! Talk to your doctor and ask if buying our drug is the solution to get you some side effects today!"
"I was inspired by the side effects". As a Dutchman, I can totally relate to that.
You are SO RIGHT! I Don’t watch TV but when I turned it on one night, that’s exactly what I noticed!
My favorite part of these commercials is when they say "do not take ____ if you're allergic to ____" when it's some new drug that just became available
Great as always! ISMO is amazing.
Don't forget all the injury lawyer commercials as well.
What's very ironic is that some antidepressants have "suicidal thoughts" listed as a side effect. One time I got prescribed one and the doctor said "it will get worse in the beginning" and then gave me a pat on the back as if to say "you got this kid" :D
Turns out no, I didn't got it. Quit halfway through otherwise I wouldn't be here to tell the story.
At least then, we wouldn't have to read this bullshit sob story of yours. RUclipss comment section is not the place for that. It has nothing to do with the clip and nobody cares! Yes. If you've lived in the US your entire life, you'll never know how crazy that is.
I've spend a time in the us, and when I was there that was also one of the things that I noticed, all the commercials on drugs, where I am from we do not do that, so that got me thinking there is propably a drug for the ones who use to mich prescription drugs for those who will like to stop using plenty
Yes, it is unbelievable how many commercials there are and how brain rapey it is. I haven't watched broadcast tv in many years; so, I don't even know how bad it is. But even online tv like Hulu got pretty bad (though you can buy a less commercials option I think). And RUclips is now ridiculous as well.
