Thank you Jason. I have been pondering this question regarding the KALI YUGA, for some time now. Finally, I run across someone else with the same related curiosity. I don't know whether we are a feature of the KALI YUGA, or not, but it sure feels that way. It's not just the massive suffering, and ignorance of the world, but also the scale of potential suffering, and madness, and (last but not least), the sheer difficulty of "waking up" to ones own divinity. I've often felt, particularly in these late years of my life, that although I'm not an atheist, I may as well be.

A liberal society where humanity is free to grow towards a higher consciousness can only be a step in the right direction - but not to be confused with a "liberal economy" where corporations are unregulated and are free to pollute, poison and entrap people within their mesh.

i read somewhere that in the kali yuga, it's the age where humans live in the gross physical realm. then as the yuga progress, it's more like humans become something beyond human since we step out of the physical body and into more subtle forms of matter. so the kali yuga is based on materialism and humans dependency on the material world. whereas for example the satya yuga is where we become more god like and free from the material bond of the kali yuga.

i question whether yugas exist, or whether they are just an attempt to describe humans' experience over time. it's like how people say there's the millenials, the boomers, gen x, etc - these categories are entirely made-up, based on arbitrary dates. for yugas to be real, it would be like vishnu suddently deciding, ok, now i'm going to turn down the light of consciousness from 50% to 25%, for a few hundred thousand years.

If you get to understand the core teachings of Upanishads atleast, mandukya Upanishad, you will understand Bhagavad Gita and words of Krishna in much deeper sense!
Don't look for simple answers based on Abrahamic religions or belief systems. Ask yourself who you are first. When you talk about "we" then what comes to your mind? You need to develop what you think you know compared to what truly is. Pur yourself on a path as suggested above.
Fixing human problems often feels like trying to clean mud with mud, it'll only get messier the harder you try. I believe that's because humans are inherently not "good" but evil. There's a darkness deep within and at best it's well hidden and passed as good or alright, while at worst it's what we see all around us currently. It's madness, chaos and suffering. We like to see ourselves as stated in the video as the protagonists somehow but that's all ego. I don't think humanity can be redeemed.
Taken as an averaged outcome, that may well seem true. However does not do justice to the selfless works that happen all around. It's unfortunate that the most influential in this materialistic society, are also those who act out of the greatest ignorance. The evolutionary process led to "naked apes", which now stand poised to destroy all complex life on earth, even just by accident. In Taoism, everything goes in circles well so do we. Since the dawn of man almost as far as we know so far we have had a belief in a God of some type. Concepts are hard, man. I don't know much about the avatars. I know you need to destroy the universe in order to see the light. (I don't think this 'destruction' is what is referred to by kali yuga? Besides you need 'shiva' to do it.) How I see it is this: 1. you tickle Shiva, and he destroys the universe for you, then you're able to see Brahman, then Brahma will create the universe again for you. Maybe the metaphor of blinking slowly is best. 1. example: when your eyes blink: before you see the world around you, during the closing of the eyelids you see nothing and all appears dark, after when they're back open you see the world again. (this is all in samsara, no metaphors) 2. now the metaphor: your mind+senses blink: before you experience the world(aka samsara), during closing of mind and senses you see the Light (aka Brahma, ... always metaphor), after you experience the world again (aka samsara). (this is not all in samsara, the moment you 'closed all' you are no longer in samsara, the world of images,... but it is only afterwards 'in samsara' that metaphors are used to describe that state of 'closing'. 3. Shiva is closing, Brahma is opening. (metaphors) aka destroying creating 4. Brahman/Light is fully closed. Samsara is fully open. (metaphors) aka formless void world of forms In Samsara, Shiva often gets a bad rep. We keep creating stuff around us, this makes us collide with each other. Sometimes we need to destroy the universe.(metaphor) Sometimes we need to blink. If you shine a bright light into your eyes (no metaphors), you close them in order to protect them, when you open them again, you'll see again. This is also true for the Mind. I see oneness also as a metaphor. When the universe is destroyed, you see all is One. But this too is subjective. You are in the center of a sun... You need to return to Samsara to realize that this sun shines in darkness and that it is not alone... there are other stars there too. In samsara "you see them covered up with images". To light up the entire darkness, all stars should be unveiled. Maybe this is Kali Yuga, just some suns are shining? edit: the 'stars covered up with images' are other people. You will never be able to see their star directly, you only know it is there, because you saw your own sun. In another set of metaphors: Mind should be fought to see the 'Light', Mind is your opponent aka 'Satan', defeat Satan and you see 'God'. I think this is a one-sided metaphor. Because you need Mind to see the world around you. (You just need to be aware, that it 'adds' stuff and attaches you to the world, if that happens, just blink). I think the true way is not sitting in the Light alone. It is returning to Samsara and use the knowledge to light other Stars. It probably doesn't make sense. All I can say is: Let FOCUS be your armour and let NO be your weapon. By focusing hard and refusing all attachments, you don't need all this text. (Note: It is only one of the methods, but it works. Don't be distracted if you have another method that works! - You also only need one method. If it works it works, the Light you'll 'see' is always the same.)
Humans are not a part of the Kali Yuga, as noted, because we have been around for a long bloody time. What is a sign of the Kali Yuga is society or civilisation and agriculture, as the time period in question at the start is only very very shortly after the beginning of permanent settlements and agriculture. It's not a coincidence that as we left nature, the hindu worldview posits that that was the beginning of this period. Additionally, indigenous peoples the world over are proof that humans are not a scourge on the planet, as they keep trying to fix the world as colonisers and capitalists (overwhelmingly now) are trying to destroy it for short term benefit

In Taoism, everything goes in circles well so do we. Since the dawn of man almost as far as we know so far we have had a belief in a God of some type. Concepts are hard, man. I don't know much about the avatars.
I know you need to destroy the universe in order to see the light. (I don't think this 'destruction' is what is referred to by kali yuga? Besides you need 'shiva' to do it.)
How I see it is this:
1. you tickle Shiva, and he destroys the universe for you, then you're able to see Brahman, then Brahma will create the universe again for you.
Maybe the metaphor of blinking slowly is best.
1. example: when your eyes blink: before you see the world around you, during the closing of the eyelids you see nothing and all appears dark, after when they're back open you see the world again. (this is all in samsara, no metaphors)
2. now the metaphor: your mind+senses blink: before you experience the world(aka samsara), during closing of mind and senses you see the Light (aka Brahma, ... always metaphor), after you experience the world again (aka samsara). (this is not all in samsara, the moment you 'closed all' you are no longer in samsara, the world of images,... but it is only afterwards 'in samsara' that metaphors are used to describe that state of 'closing'.
3. Shiva is closing, Brahma is opening. (metaphors) aka destroying creating
4. Brahman/Light is fully closed. Samsara is fully open. (metaphors) aka formless void world of forms
In Samsara, Shiva often gets a bad rep. We keep creating stuff around us, this makes us collide with each other. Sometimes we need to destroy the universe.(metaphor) Sometimes we need to blink. If you shine a bright light into your eyes (no metaphors), you close them in order to protect them, when you open them again, you'll see again. This is also true for the Mind.
I see oneness also as a metaphor. When the universe is destroyed, you see all is One. But this too is subjective. You are in the center of a sun... You need to return to Samsara to realize that this sun shines in darkness and that it is not alone... there are other stars there too. In samsara "you see them covered up with images". To light up the entire darkness, all stars should be unveiled.
Maybe this is Kali Yuga, just some suns are shining?
edit: the 'stars covered up with images' are other people. You will never be able to see their star directly, you only know it is there, because you saw your own sun.
In another set of metaphors: Mind should be fought to see the 'Light', Mind is your opponent aka 'Satan', defeat Satan and you see 'God'. I think this is a one-sided metaphor. Because you need Mind to see the world around you. (You just need to be aware, that it 'adds' stuff and attaches you to the world, if that happens, just blink).
I think the true way is not sitting in the Light alone. It is returning to Samsara and use the knowledge to light other Stars.
It probably doesn't make sense. All I can say is: Let FOCUS be your armour and let NO be your weapon. By focusing hard and refusing all attachments, you don't need all this text. (Note: It is only one of the methods, but it works. Don't be distracted if you have another method that works! - You also only need one method. If it works it works, the Light you'll 'see' is always the same.)

Humans are not a part of the Kali Yuga, as noted, because we have been around for a long bloody time. What is a sign of the Kali Yuga is society or civilisation and agriculture, as the time period in question at the start is only very very shortly after the beginning of permanent settlements and agriculture. It's not a coincidence that as we left nature, the hindu worldview posits that that was the beginning of this period.
Additionally, indigenous peoples the world over are proof that humans are not a scourge on the planet, as they keep trying to fix the world as colonisers and capitalists (overwhelmingly now) are trying to destroy it for short term benefit
