Love this layout. See to many that look cluttered with city Sean's love the open country the grass is awesome. Don't know how you could make it better. Great work
It's definitely one of the neatest layouts I've seen- of any scale. I really like the wide open running. It does a great job of relaying the feel of being in the Midwest. -Mike
@MainTrack the reason I went with n scale is for this. I want to have "vast" scenery in a smaller space. Any named passenger train CZ, 20th century limited, Daylight, etc. Are about 6-7' in N scale you can almost double that for HO. Even in a small garage, N scale gives you more of a chance to have "larger" scenery. The thing I love about modular layouts in general is the lack of track and the increased scenery.
Hi, David! I appreciate you joining us! I’ve always seen the benefit of N-scale as being able to pack more into a space- as opposed to having a super detailed display. These guys managed to do both! Thanks for watching and staying tuned! -Mike
That layout is GORGEOUS! Yeah, like a lot of guys I am a little jelly that the N-scaler can fit so much in but like you I am ham fisted old and blind and probably should stick with G scale, but HO is where my heart is. Great video I’m curious about the GP units that you were getting or have from scale Trains that you’re “patching up“ are you doing a video on those. That would be neat. Thanks for sharing this with us man What a great show!
Hello! Thanks- I appreciate you tuning in. Yes, I will certainly produce a video showing the patch-out of the Conrail units. The MKT has several ex-CR units it’s it kept in the blue scheme and slapped its reporting marks on them. They were a little rough looking, but it added some extra color! I’d love to have a G scale setup sometime. I’ve really enjoyed the garden railroads I’ve seen. Hopefully I have several more years left to enjoy HO! Ha.
Thanks for this! Vicarious train show watching is mostly what I can do these days. BTW, did you get any footage of that shelf/table-top switching layout visible at around 00:47?
Hi, Jon! I appreciate you stopping by to watch some trains! It was a fun event. I did see the layout you’re referring to, but didn’t get any footage of that one in particular. I’ll be honest- after filming the N scale layout, doing some shopping, and catching up with everyone, I ran out of time to grab additional video. I’m hoping to attend the full event year so I can have more time to spend looking at and filming everything. -Mike
Hi! Yes, that was a pretty cool train. Unfortunately, they weren’t running it at the time I was filming the layout. I’m hoping to run into them again sometime in the future. I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for that train and include some footage! -Mike
Hello! I will have to add that to my to-do list! I don’t make it down that way too often…but now I’ll have something cool to check out next time! -Mike
Mike you might include this video on your Mike Checks segments on TV. I m sure people have no idea that this hobby even exits. Brian DeSpain As always great camera work.
Hi, Brian! I would love to include this in a segment if I could. Any opportunity I find to talk about trains- I’m all for it! Haha. I appreciate you watching as always! -Mike
Hi, David! I agree- they did a fantastic job on this layout. I will definitely look up the A.C.& T. to see what I can find. I appreciate you watching! -Mike
Hi, John. An interlocking is technically the system of signals and other infrastructure controlling train movements through a junction. The physical intersection of two tracks is still a junction nevertheless. You are true- this module does represent an interlocking setup. However, with a lot of my videos, I prefer to explain certain aspects in “layman’s terms” since we have a lot of viewers who aren’t necessarily train experts who know all the lingo. I appreciate you watching! -Mike
Hi, George! I was wondering the same about you! Haha. I guess that’s a good thing for the show organizers- having so many people this year that it was hard to catch everyone! It was a great show and I’m looking forward to next year. Surely I’ll see you then! -Mike
Hi, John. There are plenty of wayside signals shown throughout this video. I specifically mention them around the 3:06 mark. That aside, there are plenty of real railroad lines without signals at all, so that doesn’t necessarily make one railroad more realistic than another. The line I’m modeling- the MKT Sedalia Subdivision- is an example of “dark” non-signaled territory.
I love the Chicago Burlington & quiny railroad the famous one of all time the Nebraska zephar!!!!!! With a normal air horn and my favorite one of all time the Leslie A200 horn I love that horn And the SD40-2 locomotive like the Denver & rio Grande Western railroad SD40-2 and the American freedom train SD40-2 no.1976 and the western pacific SD40-2 locomotive and two SD40-2 Milwaukee road locomotive and the two southern pacific SD40-2 and finally the two model trains sets of all time the Chicago & North Western railroad SD40-2 locomotive I love the new model trains layout in 2024 even the Chicago Burlington & quiny railroad the famous one of all time the Nebraska zephar!!!!!!!!!
Hi, Ernesto! Yes, the Burlington Route was a pretty interesting railroad. I also like the Burlington Northern, so I enjoy reading about its history and predecessor railroads. It’s sounds like you like SD40-2s. I miss seeing those out on the mainlines like there were up through the 1980s and 90s. The railroad I’m modeling, the MKT, also had several. I plan to add some to the layout, though the particular route I’m recreating didn’t see many of them on account of rough track conditions. -Mike
Hi Mike & it's is Randy and i like yours video is Cool & Thanks Mike & Friends Randy
Thank you Randy! Appreciate you tuning in! -Mike

Wow, that's an amazing layout! Well done to those guys!
Hi! I agree with you…they did a fantastic job on this. I can only hope to develop those kinds of modeling skills in the long run. -Mike

Lots love and work but a beautiful layout was the result.
Hi, Walter. Yes…I can’t imagine the effort, time, and talent that would go into building something like this. Much more of any than I have! Ha. -Mike

Great looking layout. Wish you had gotten more of the Royal American Shows train. I've got one in the works

If you want to see another detailed N-scale modular layout, check out the Orlando N track club's traveling layout. It's fantastic.
Hello! I will have to add that to my to-do list! I don’t make it down that way too often…but now I’ll have something cool to check out next time! -Mike
Sounds like a great RPM meet. I really wish I could have been there, but I'm already planning for 2025~
It was a lot of fun! I’m hoping to make it for the full multi-day event next year. We will see you there! -Mike

That's a nice modular layout. If you want to see a nice permanent layout check out Mike Fifer's N scale A.C.&T.
Hi, David! I agree- they did a fantastic job on this layout. I will definitely look up the A.C.& T. to see what I can find. I appreciate you watching! -Mike
At the interlocking.

Most detailed? Where are the wayside signals?
