Another fantastic video from the camera and mind of Michael Delaware. It reflects an incredible amount of research, is humorously written and delivered, and the production of life-like elephants at the mill race..........a huge WOWzer!!!!! Can't wait to see the tusks on that coming-soon-to-Mill-Race-Park Hannibal!!! Now, just imagine how much fertilizer Hannibal produced however-many-years he was around!!! And, he remembered that bridge in Battle Creek!
Another immensely entertaining (and well-researched) video, Michael! I appreciate your approach to history: present the facts as they are while weaving an engrossing and informative story. As for a Hannibal monument of some sort in BC, I have mixed feelings. While I strive to keep history in perspective and proper context, the story of Hannibal is largely a sad one. A life of captivity - trapped in less-than-luxurious travel, punctuated by violence and ,ultimately, a broken heart. Almost Shakespearean in a way…. “Hannibal, o Hannibal…where art thou?” On the other hand, I would so buy a T-shirt emblazoned with Hannibal’s profile along with the caption, “Hannibal made a splash in Battle Creek!” Or some such. Thanks again for all your efforts in keeping Cereal City’s history alive (including before cereal even existed). Matt Crosby Battle Creek
I have been thinking about adding a T-Shirt design of something with Hannibal to add to my store. I too have mixed feelings even about Jumbo, however, St. Thomas did turn his legacy into a great tourism attraction for their city. I have donated to the Elephant Sanctuary in the past, which is a sanctuary for elephants that are mostly rescued circus elephants in Tennessee. So I see where you are coming from. Perhaps the concept needs development to tie in as a momument to raise awareness, but also find a way to connect it with a BC based foundation to support rescued animals from these types of shows. Maybe a Old Hannibal Festival? It would be fun to take his legacy and build something positive out of it.
Michael, thanks for your interesting coverage. I was born and raised in Charlotte, Michigan. A gravel road just off the Battle Creek Rd. (M78) called Maurer Road. I have such good memories of that area. Liked your stories of Mapel Hill Cemetery, and Charlotte......Thanks again.....Jim
I really enjoyed this video about Old Hannibal, the elephant. There should be some sort of statue of him....his hugeness should be put into perspective somehow and could be a great way to fund raise for the elephant rescue group. I would say a t-shirt is a must. It would be great to get this data in front of elementary school kids. Thanks for all your research and entertaining presentation.

Hannibal was probably the envy of many a farmer in his time! Never looked at it that way! Thank you. I am glad you enjoyed it!

Thank you!
This is one of the saddest stories I have ever heard.
It is indeed.
