So, I don't know a lot about this band (I'm 27, so it's not like it's easy to relate to all this young boybands or whatever you call them), but I've been checking a couple of live performances, and I have to say that Michael dude really stands out to me. As a long time fan of My Chemical Romance, he reminds me a lot of young Gerard Way. I'm not talking about the hair or anything silly like that, and he may not even have a similar personality. But he has that thing that Gerard had in MCR, that he wasn't the best singer you could find out there, but it didn't matter, 'cause it wasn't about singing flawlessly, it was about singing from the heart. This guy is just the same, he misses many notes, but he's so damn into the song that in the end he's the one that is making me believe there's a genuine feeling behind this. So yeah, my respect to him for putting his emotions out there and singing out loud even at the risk of missing the notes.

It's sad how many people will say Michael did terrible. He sung his fucking heart out, a song that he frequently cries while performing because it means so much to him, with his three best friends, while playing the guitar beautifully, and he wrote a lot of it. He's absolutely nothing less than a vital member of the band, and anyone who thinks otherwise is just plain wrong. They are all important, and they all deserve recognition. They all did amazing. Don't comment hate.

Correct me if I’m wrong with some of these but the bassist from Green Day Mike Dirnt mentioned Calum on Instagram and complimented him. Gerard Way ranted about how he likes this band and he doesn’t care what others say. They’ve worked with members of Good Charlotte, All Time Low, John Feldmann, Brendon Urie etc on this album. Ashton worked with the lead singer from Black Veil Brides recently. Fall Out Boy said they would like to work with them one day. Michael recently performed with All Time Low at one of their shows. Blink 182, Bret Michaels and many other rock artists have noticed and/or complimented them on doing what they do and yet people still find reasons to hate them and not consider them rock. I just wanted to say this because I’m tired of the same tired comments under all of their music videos like: “They’re a boy band” “They’re a wanna be mcr” “They aren’t real punk rock like green day”. Yeah they aren’t exactly punk rock and they never said they were really. They’re just 4 dudes enjoying themselves and trying to bring guitar and real music with real messages back to the radio. You don’t have to like them or listen to their music but at least they have the respect from people they’ve looked up to and that’s all that matters.

They don't receive enough credit for what they do and I think that they have been stuck with the boyband label ever since they toured with one direction. I think the fact that they are young and attractive people also changes their audience.
Oh my god you just put into words everything I try and use to justify liking them to people (which I totally shouldn't have to do) who are used to me liking literally like all those bands you mentioned. Simple plan have been my favourite band since primary school; them, blink, green day, good Charlotte etc. were all the sort of bands I listened to. Then in high school I got into mcr and fall out boy and that as well, then college was my real into into heavier music like metal core, hardcore, post hardcore etc yet I still listened to all those earlier bands too. Then in uni I really started noticing and loving 5sos and here I am today, a massive fan of them as well as all the heavier and punkier stuff I've always listened to, and people just can't understand why I like 5sos if I like all those other bands, they just can't see that 5sos are the new generation's simple plan/good Charlotte etc., like they're right up there with all those bands, not boybands, they're not a boyband.

Wow, I'm a casual listener of 5Sos and I keep seeing people say that Jet Black Heart is really a good song, I think I've seen it so many times.
