One thing that really upsets me is people insulting 5SOS. Fair enough if you don't like them, but there are hundreds of thousands of people like me who love them. Please don't call them manufactured because they are not. If you did your research you'd know that they started out as just Michael, Luke and Calum who met at school and decided to start a band. ON THEIR OWN. Then, again on their own, they found Ashton, the drummer. They wear the t shirts of bands they look up to and who influence them because they choose to. Yes, they may have some guidance as to what deals to accept, but they are their own band and wouldn't be told how look or how to act. They haven't changed musically or aesthetically since they started and I applaud them for that because they are growing popular as the band they had a dream to become. 5SOS fans don't go on to punk rock videos and say how shit they are because the majority of us enjoy that music or think it's perfectly fine to like a different band or genre. However, a lot of punk fans choose to comment on 5SOS's performances and say how it isn't 'real music'. Well, fuck you. They are who they want to be and we love them and always have for who they are and who they've always been.

I've never understood why punk fans are so defensive of "their" music and then I realized it's because they want to be different and when the mainstream pays attention to "their" music they feel threatened. I've been a Blink fan for years and 5SOS fan for about a year now and I do genuinely enjoy this cover. 5sos are my favourite band and I'm going to be honest and say this really wasn't one of their best performances, but before you start saying things like "this band is terrible" and "they don't deserve a record deal" I suggest you listen to some of their other live or acoustic performances because that might change your opinion
So many people are hating on Cal, and it's so upsetting. I will agree this isn't Calum's BEST performance, it's not any of theirs. In his defense, he was INCREDIBLY nervous, which is why his voice is shaky and weak in most areas. Luke is definitely the voice of the band, and they ALL know that. Calum's voice isn't as strong as Luke's, but neither is Michael's or Ashton's. Luke is the voice, Calum is the bass, Michael is the guitar, and Ashton is the drums. They all have talent, they all can sing, but Calum is BEST at bass, just as Ashton is best at drums. Calum sings well, he just has his weaknesses, and I think most of that comes from being nervous because they're all still fairly new to all of this, but that doesn't mean "he shouldn't sing anymore". He just needs to practice more, in time his voice will get stronger and better. But he still has just as much of talent as Luke, and so do Ash and Mike. If you don't like them, then that's fine, I don't care. I'm not going to flip immortal shit because you dislike them. We all have our music tastes, judging someone based on their music taste is childish and stupid. To the fans telling haters to kill themselves, stop lmao. That is even more childish and wrong. Literally chill, it's not like they're pointing a gun to their head. You are simply over reacting. No, this cover was not their best. yes, Calum sounded off. it's called being ill. yet this just shows the dedication this band have to music. they're ill and are still coming out to make music, for the fans. you can't judge a band from one performance. I think they messed up here, should have had Luke do the first lower-pitched verse and Calum (? don't know their names that well) do the higher "WHERE ARE YOU" part. Luke's lower range is more solid than Calum's and Calum's high range is more relaxed/easier than Luke's. Red haired guy's got mad pipes though, he should sing lead more often.

People seem to forget that literally all of their favorite bands, the ones they consistently compare 5SOS to and subsequently rag on 5SOS for not being good enough, were the exact same. They like to rag on 5SOS for being young with too young lyrics. Do you not remember FOB? Same ages, same style, same lyrical content when they started out. Paramore? Same. P!ATD? Same. Green Day, Good Charlotte, Blink-182, MCR, ATL? All these bands started the exact same way. And still are the same, pretty much. The only difference is that they've aged ten years and so have their fan base. If 5SOS came along ten years ago they would not get ANY of the criticism on them being 'fake' or whatever. Don't even try to pretend that it's not true.

I saw 5sos live in Adelaide and I instantly just started swerving lanes. Like, between Michael's screaming, Ashton's drumming, Calum's bass lines and Luke's voice cracks I'm surprised I'm still functioning tbh.
I'm not gonna say that this is 5SOS' best performance, because it's not. I just want to say that I've seen them multiple times live, and you can not base a band's talent off of one video or the clothes they wear or whatever. If you stopped and watched what else they have out there, you may actually like it. They are really great live, and I'd be saying that regardless of if I was a fan. I agree that they could've done better with this, but no one is perfect. I respect the fact that people may not like their sound, and that's ok. Everyone has different preferences. Many people don't understand that its physical limitations thats making 5SOS sound off. Blink 182 is pure Punk Rock..5SOS is not, I work Live Audio and Studio so I need to have an open mind about any Genre, I have seen many bands mix Genres and end up failing to do so..5SOS is better off doing cover's of One Direction, because One Direction is based in the same Genre as 5SOS. For example Lil Wayne tried to cover Rock and failed horribly. 5SOS should stay in their spectrum of Music. I like your argument, but I hope they never preform Punk Rock again, they did kind of ruin and distort the song. Lets be honest.

And the whole purpose of the cover is to make is your own, but they could've done better. 5SOS is definitely not punk rock nor do they try to be, lol, more like pop punk because they have some pop and some punk influences and sounds in their music. I will never think of them in the same genre as One Direction because One Direction is as pop as pop can be, but I definitely see what you're saying.
Ashley Blink 182 is very hard to cover, you're right but 5SOS would have an easier session by Covering Pop bands. In this video they try and throw in Pop with Punk Rock as well, they tried to make it more Unique, which is a big No no. Vary rarely does mixing 2 Genres together sound decent, A local band tried tried combining Rock and Rap..It didn't sound so good. When they played the genre they were used to playing "Rock" they sounded great, but when they dabble in another Genre they aren't used to it goes downhill. I'm not really understanding all the arguments here? 5sos did a cover of a band who they like and who they look up to. In my opinion they did a pretty good job of it although obviously you could never be better than the original as it's brilliant. Don't forget also blink wrote the song for themselves so it will obviously suit their voices more than 5sos'. All in all though it's a good cover and I wish people would stop arguing and just appreciate whichever version they like. There's no need to hate on people for having different opinions to your own and also there are diplomatic ways to put opinions across to get them appreciated and prevent people from becoming defensive. I know right! In order for someone to have a valid opinion on the band they have to listen to their album, their eps, all their songs and covers from when they first started to now. Personally, I don't normally fall a victim to trends or mainstream music. I listen to a lot of underground artists, a lot heavier genres (rock, metalcore, post hardcore). But I stumbled across 5sos back accident, heard SLSP and actually went out of my way to listen to their self titled album. From my perspective, they actually sound pretty good. Hey have the potential to grow and get better because, let's face it, they're young :) right now, they're doing pretty good and it's a shame when people can't see and appreciate that.

One thing that really upsets me is people insulting 5SOS. Fair enough if you don't like them, but there are hundreds of thousands of people like me who love them. Please don't call them manufactured because they are not. If you did your research you'd know that they started out as just Michael, Luke and Calum who met at school and decided to start a band. ON THEIR OWN. Then, again on their own, they found Ashton, the drummer. They wear the t shirts of bands they look up to and who influence them because they choose to. Yes, they may have some guidance as to what deals to accept, but they are their own band and wouldn't be told how look or how to act. They haven't changed musically or aesthetically since they started and I applaud them for that because they are growing popular as the band they had a dream to become. 5SOS fans don't go on to punk rock videos and say how shit they are because the majority of us enjoy that music or think it's perfectly fine to like a different band or genre. However, a lot of punk fans choose to comment on 5SOS's performances and say how it isn't 'real music'. Well, fuck you. They are who they want to be and we love them and always have for who they are and who they've always been.

I've never understood why punk fans are so defensive of "their" music and then I realized it's because they want to be different and when the mainstream pays attention to "their" music they feel threatened. I've been a Blink fan for years and 5SOS fan for about a year now and I do genuinely enjoy this cover. I think fans of bands like Blink 182 and other bands alike are too judgmental when someone a little "poppy" covers or likes the band's music and why? I mean you know why you love Blink 182's music so they obviously love it for the same reason. Music isn't about ownership it's about evoking emotion and connecting people. So pipe the fuck down.

5sos are my favourite band and I'm going to be honest and say this really wasn't one of their best performances, but before you start saying things like "this band is terrible" and "they don't deserve a record deal" I suggest you listen to some of their other live or acoustic performances because that might change your opinion

So many people are hating on Cal, and it's so upsetting.
I will agree this isn't Calum's BEST performance, it's not any of theirs. In his defense, he was INCREDIBLY nervous, which is why his voice is shaky and weak in most areas. Luke is definitely the voice of the band, and they ALL know that. Calum's voice isn't as strong as Luke's, but neither is Michael's or Ashton's. Luke is the voice, Calum is the bass, Michael is the guitar, and Ashton is the drums.
They all have talent, they all can sing, but Calum is BEST at bass, just as Ashton is best at drums.
Calum sings well, he just has his weaknesses, and I think most of that comes from being nervous because they're all still fairly new to all of this, but that doesn't mean "he shouldn't sing anymore". He just needs to practice more, in time his voice will get stronger and better. But he still has just as much of talent as Luke, and so do Ash and Mike.
If you don't like them, then that's fine, I don't care. I'm not going to flip immortal shit because you dislike them. We all have our music tastes, judging someone based on their music taste is childish and stupid.
To the fans telling haters to kill themselves, stop lmao. That is even more childish and wrong. Literally chill, it's not like they're pointing a gun to their head. You are simply over reacting.

I think they messed up here, should have had Luke do the first lower-pitched verse and Calum (? don't know their names that well) do the higher "WHERE ARE YOU" part. People seem to forget that literally all of their favorite bands, the ones they consistently compare 5SOS to and subsequently rag on 5SOS for not being good enough, were the exact same. They like to rag on 5SOS for being young with too young lyrics. Do you not remember FOB? Same ages, same style, same lyrical content when they started out. Paramore? Same. P!ATD? Same. Green Day, Good Charlotte, Blink-182, MCR, ATL? All these bands started the exact same way. And still are the same, pretty much. The only difference is that they've aged ten years and so have their fan base. If 5SOS came along ten years ago they would not get ANY of the criticism on them being 'fake' or whatever. I just want to say that I've seen them multiple times live, and you can not base a band's talent off of one video or the clothes they wear or whatever. If you stopped and watched what else they have out there, you may actually like it. They are really great live, and I'd be saying that regardless of if I was a fan. I agree that they could've done better with this, but no one is perfect. I respect the fact that people may not like their sound, and that's ok. Everyone has different preferences. But in no way is it ok to comment on a MUSIC video to complain about the CLOTHES they're wearing. They are real people who are not manufactured to "act" or "look" punk. This is them. And I just wish people would stop being so defensive over who they think should and shouldn't like/ listen to certain genres. Anyone can like whatever music they want, regardless of who they are. Music connects people and that's what we should be here for; not to complain about someone's looks. Who cares what bands they listen to, they're allowed to listen to whoever they want.

Blink 182 is pure Punk Rock..5SOS is not, I work Live Audio and Studio so I need to have an open mind about any Genre, I have seen many bands mix Genres and end up failing to do so..5SOS is better off doing cover's of One Direction, because One Direction is based in the same Genre as 5SOS. For example Lil Wayne tried to cover Rock and failed horribly. 5SOS should stay in their spectrum of Music. I like your argument, but I hope they never preform Punk Rock again, they did kind of ruin and distort the song. Lets be honest.
HalomasterA69 I agree that they're not punk rock. I think what they tried to do was make the song their own, because no one can really sound like Blink. Blink has a pretty unique sound. And the whole purpose of the cover is to make is your own, but they could've done better. 5SOS is definitely not punk rock nor do they try to be, lol, more like pop punk because they have some pop and some punk influences and sounds in their music. I will never think of them in the same genre as One Direction because One Direction is as pop as pop can be, but I definitely see what you're saying.
Ashley Blink 182 is very hard to cover, you're right but 5SOS would have an easier session by Covering Pop bands. In this video they try and throw in Pop with Punk Rock as well, they tried to make it more Unique, which is a big No no. Vary rarely does mixing 2 Genres together sound decent, A local band tried tried combining Rock and Rap..It didn't sound so good. When they played the genre they were used to playing "Rock" they sounded great, but when they dabble in another Genre they aren't used to it goes downhill. People don't understand that its physical limitation. 5SOS sounds good, not my type of music but they arn't bad.

I liked them because they tried, and because they did incredible covers and had the same music taste like I did. I saw them live and holyyy crap they were soo good. I'm not really understanding all the arguments here? 5sos did a cover of a band who they like and who they look up to. In my opinion they did a pretty good job of it although obviously you could never be better than the original as it's brilliant. Don't forget also blink wrote the song for themselves so it will obviously suit their voices more than 5sos'. All in all though it's a good cover and I wish people would stop arguing and just appreciate whichever version they like. There's no need to hate on people for having different opinions to your own and also there are diplomatic ways to put opinions across to get them appreciated and prevent people from becoming defensive. It's just a cover and I really don't see why there needs to be this much drama about it!

I know right! In order for someone to have a valid opinion on the band they have to listen to their album, their eps, all their songs and covers from when they first started to now.
Personally, I don't normally fall a victim to trends or mainstream music. I listen to a lot of underground artists, a lot heavier genres (rock, metalcore, post hardcore). But I stumbled across 5sos back accident, heard SLSP and actually went out of my way to listen to their self titled album. From my perspective, they actually sound pretty good. Hey have the potential to grow and get better because, let's face it, they're young :) right now, they're doing pretty good and it's a shame when people can't see and appreciate that.
