    Can't believe you still had most of that half bottle of Glenmorangie. You are not big drinkers are you. Very pleased it provided a drink for the glacier ice!!! Very fitting because at the time I gave it to you you were publishing the Norway videos and you had recently shown the Norwegian Whisky barrel purchase. This was one of my favourite segments. Lots of sailing and bits of the boat handling. Dan's single handed sail hoisting and setting was very good to see. Also hose to get seaweed off the anchor and the use of the cockpit shower. Its good to be reminded of all the boat projects that have taken place over 8 years, and just how easy it is now for Uma to be sailed, and used, conveniently, by one or two people, or even three!!!!

    As a video professional, I really appreciate the production values you bring to your episodes -- letting the cutaways, B-roll, and nat sound help tell the story vs. the typical RUclips, endless, facetime narrative. Yes, there certainly is a personality-driven aspect to Sailing Uma, but when you craft that balance between compelling visuals and a personal POV, I forget about how it was made vs. where you're taking the viewer. Or as Bob and Doug McKenzie used to say on SCTV's Great White North, "Beauty, eh?" Fair winds and following seas to you both. Cheers.

      Comparing Sailing Uma to Doug and Bob is almost an insult, luckily they have a lot more class than Bob or Doug also the fact she being female also adds to Sailing Uma does not discount the Class of the young Lady!

    I often ponder, with the legacy of their sailing experiences at Sea, about the degree and level of magnitude of their collective sailing and evolving anthropological expertise? [Based on their travels and engagement in the human experience (e.g., marriage/ global diplomacy/ Etc.)
    Imagine the ionosphere level of experience, in just their casual and passing conversation. Damn!

    On the practical side I keep thinking you guys really need something likeWheel-a-Weigh to save both your dinghy and your backs. I've used them for 20 plus years on my Achilles dinghy and think it's one of the reasons it has lasted so long, including 8 years in Pacific Mexico (It does look like they have changed their design since I bought mine, to a maybe less durable design, VEVOR Boat Launching Wheels look like what I have used with the longer transom mounting hardware). Drop the wheels into the water before it's too shallow, it then protects your prop to some degree, and on getting to the beach usually one person can roll it up the beach to the high tide mark. Something of this nature makes dinghy landings and launching so much easier.
    Production Quality, you guys are the gold standard. Great editing of superb video, combing drone, fixed and hand held cams.
    Great work!

    foam: Bio pollution....;) The foam is formed when biological material is broken down.
    The phenomenon is due to so-called yellow matter, which is dissolved organic material. This collects and becomes visible where two water currents meet and form a front in the sea. Organic material that ends up in the sea collects in these belts. The phenomenon is common in summer, often during periods of calm weather. When this is broken down by bacteria, foam can form on the surface.

      They’ve literally given you a blueprint. Start their videos from the beginning. Only thing I would do different from them is I’d look for a bigger boat to salvage. Maybe a 45’ boat and a little wider too.
      You also have to remember that their chemistry, charisma and their looks, honestly especially Kika’s looks and personality, have enabled them to be one of the lucky ones to have a super successful RUclips channel that allows them to financially pay for the salvage and remodeling of their boat and has allowed them to do all this traveling and upgrades to their boat as they travel to these wonderful places without having to have other jobs. So you have to consider that to unless you happen to have other money somewhere. Not everyone’s RUclips channels take off like this.
      So as you watch their videos, consider the financial side of not only the cost of the boat, but the cost of basic survival and travel once you have the boat up and going.

Quite a fitting way to celebrate your success in many ways - funny and sad at the same time. A sign of the journey you have come. A salute to the good things in life. But also - a reminder of the melting polar icecaps due to climate change - quite literally. And delivered by one of the most ecology conscious sailing channels out there. A very visual demonstration of the quagmire mankind has maneuvered itself into. KEEP IT UP - You are doing excellent work. Dan and Kika,
    It's nice to have a sailing vessel that one person can sail without any difficulty; and I am a fan of keeping the number of lines in the cockpit to a minimum. I like your boat a lot and the work that y'all did to make the cabin layout your own is AWESOME; and going with an electric motor is the best concept that I could imagine. Kudo's to Dan and Kika; fantastic imagination.
    I noticed that Kika was wearing her Port/Starboard socks. I have a few pair of those, myself.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Blue Skies, Fair Winds, and Following Seas.
    Faithfully,
    James

    Just an idea for the trash problem for you guys- we put all organics in a little countertop bin and empty it once at sea (or at night when the current is going out of the anchorage). Things like banana peels I cut into small pieces so fish can eat it or it will decompose faster. Any soiled packaging we wash in saltwater and dry before putting it either in recycling or general waste. It's incredible how much we have cut down on trash bags this way and nothing ever smells. We can go for weeks without needing to take out the trash. The recycling gets full first.

    • @SailingUma
      @SailingUma  2 года назад

      Same on our boat. We usually just blend up organics in the blender and pour it down the drain.
      If we prep food we’ll, we can go 2-3 weeks with only making one bag of plastic waste. But when we’re coastal, we don’t spend as much time prepping so we make more trash. But it’s only one small bag a week. So pretty good compared to before.

    We used to have the Bosch 6 Gallon water heater in our van before moving onto a boat and we LOVED it. It took about ten minutes for both of us to have hot showers. Highly recommend it.

    • @RoamingRupps
      @RoamingRupps 2 года назад

      @@SailingUma Electric, 1400 watts, 120v / 220v depending on country of ordering it. 10 mins in summer and 15 mins in winter and you get super hot water. There is also a 4-gallon version that we used in some of our van builds given it is more compact.

    Your sparkly sand: this condition also exists along the atlantic side of the Quiberon peninsula in Brittany, France. In the waves the sand particles catch the sun and it's like a glitter-bath; they stick to the skin and everything is coated in sparkles. Delightful.

      Our boat draws too much to do the French canals. And w/ an electric motor, we don’t really do the whole “motoring” thing. But maybe we can rent a canal boat and take a trip one of these days
