- If you've been following my channel for a while you'd know I've been riding Trek for some time. I'm a big fan of their bikes, the design, aerodynamics and products. After plenty of people sending me images and their wild guesses on what the new Trek Emonda will entail I have made this video to address my theories, predictions and thoughts on what this new bike will look like, be named and also the future of the Trek brand. Tune in and I hope you enjoy.

Can anyone come up with a better anagram of Madone/Emonda/Domane?
I'll start: Aeomnd
If you're reading this Trek, you can have that one for free.
Daemon
Damonde
Got an extra D there 😂
@@joshkwan Explains how I failed most subjects in high school 🤣
Ademon.... as in it's A Demon
The crit footage in the background with the actual commentary in a bubble moving around like the DVD logo is exactly what my gen Z mind needed
I know what you need for that sweet release of dopamine 🙃
brother can you make a separate video on your road bike?
6:48, at Unbound this past week or so, Trek's Driftless team were racing pretty much the exact bike you're describing. Pretty much looked like a Domane with increased tire clearance (looked to be wearing 45c tires), UDH, and retained isospeed. Trek posted a teaser of it their IG, and could allegedly be named the "Checkmate". Not sure if will outright replace the Domane, but I see the logic in your theory of that being the case. It's geo was for sure racier than the Checkpoint, so it could also take up that all-road space with some 32c tires.
Interesting, thanks for the comment. Also if you consider that Trek don’t currently offer a CX specific bike.
I’ll go and see if I can spot some of these in unbound vids
@@joshkwan They still offer the Boone, but only with a single model and frameset, and they have the Crockett AL frameset available as well, at least in the US market. But I can see this alleged “Checkmate” cannabalizing those lines as well, further advancing Trek’s SKU reducing initiative.
They need to reduce SKUs to make their production more efficient. Right now is cost cutting time.
Given the current state of the market, I think it's challenging for retailers to stock so many different models in so many different sizes. It's easier to sell one frame that can accommodate different styles of cycling and further personalisation by changing wheels, tyres, gear ratio, handlebars, etc.
Yep this is exactly my thinking. Once you consider that each bike must be stocked in 5-6 sizes and maybe another 5-6 colours. You are looking at a huge amount of stock per unique frame. That’s not even considering special parts like spacers, bearings etc
Interesting theory Josh. I'm hoping they keep the Gen7 Madone for a pure speed bike and this new one is the next gen Emonda. But I'm a traditionalist at heart.
Same, more variety is more choice for the consumer.
Will be a shame to see it go, and I don’t think it has anything to do with the performance of the bike. More to do with the costs/manufacturing side.
It's over
So as someone who owns both the current generation Emonda & Madone how would you compare the two ? I have
the Emonda and it's a great bike but I do find it a bit harsh on rough roads. Some people reckon the Madone is more comfortable. If Trek can take the best bits from the Emonda improve the ride quality & add some extra aero I think it could be a great bike.
Tbh I think the Emonda is pretty good on harsh roads. I’m not sure your set up but maybe consider wider tires and less pressure.
The Madone Gen 7 is a bit more complaint especially for the road vibrations. The Emonda I find is a bit more snappy with accelerations and out of the saddle efforts, mainly due to its lighter weight.
I guess in a week we will find out. A few weeks ago I went to the shop to buy a Madone SLR but I said I would not buy a bike that would be killed at the end of the month and he told me he would send a message to Trek Super to ask for info. He sent me an email saying that I can buy the Madone with no problem because they do not intend to stop it anytime soon but the same it wouldn't happen to Emonda. Also, he said Trek will launch 2 new bikes this year and he told me Domane is one of the new models. So my guess is to dump Emonda and bring a new name in without taking Madone out completely to keep paying the investment they did in the Madon project. Domane will come just before the Winter season in Europe.
Very interesting, can’t wait to find out this week :)
The new bike is Madone 8 weighing 760g just like the weight of the Emonda. So slr9 build will be close to 6.9, 7.0kg
Keeen to see it
@@joshkwan yep it will be available on the 27th. Frameset only is 6k though.😅
Feel bad for Pedersen and Milan though, the current madone is one of the fastest bikes in the peloton. New bike looks great but It really is an emonda, sucks to have less choice I guess.
Yea, I hate to say it (since I ride an Emonda) but the current Madone is super aero but doesn’t compromise on weight at all. It does a good job with stiffness but compliant when it needs to be.
We shall have to see how it turns out.
Background footage definitely helped my short attention span...
Where are your glasses from
The brand is called Lozza
The Domane won’t be faced out. It is Trek’s highest selling bike.
Maybe I am in a bubble due to the groups I ride with. But I don’t know anyone who I ride with regularly who has a Domane.
I think you’re correct though, unlikely to get phased out.
I think the Domane will become their electric bike.
Trek Modena and here's why i think so:
Madone takes its name from the climb Lance Armstrong would test ride in France called Col de la Madone
Emonda is a French word meaning 'cut away' or 'prune' which is fitting because that's what they've done with the overall weight
but Domane doesnt have a french meaning
Domane is latin for 'Kings Crown' so it would seem that this bike was named purely for the sake of being an anagram and nothing more
maybe i've missed something there
But it is still a real word
People mention Daemon as an anagram and potential model but due to the religious connotations this seems like a marketing risk
It also sounds shit to say
So I think the next pleasant sounding word that can be made from Madone is Modena
It's also fairly similar sounding to Madone and Emonda whereas Daemon is not at all
Modena is a place in Italy. It's a real word
Modena also has a cycling culture based on tourism and travel. There are lots of bike paths and stuff built to get around according to some sites online
@Trek if you havent called the new bike Modena you've missed an opportunity and if you do call it Modena id would be over the moon to score a free bike for my efforts cheers 🤣
Hahahaa I love the write up.
Makes a lot of sense and I agree with your points. I’ll put in a good word for you with the Trek CEO 🫡
Trek Venn 😎
I just would miss the Emonda’s shape (I guess generally bikes with “regular” seat stays) :(
Likewise
But I can understand why they need to reduce their lineup.
Infinity? nah... surely it'll be Kwanmonde.
I don’t wanna see an anagram of that 🤪
Trek Jones Mulder
Too bad, the emonda is going out… no new emonda coming besides the ALR is staying. The madone will replace it with the new model and there will be “lower end” madones available with 105 mech to keep the price down.
I work at an official trek store. The sales will start next week thursday for the shops to order it. There is already plenty stock in the factories to be shipped out right away.
We had a lidl trek rider coming by this week and he showed us the new madone. I wouldnt say its a blend of an emonda because its not much like an emonda anymore. But it is lighter than the old madone
Thanks for your insider knowledge ;)
Yea the design of the bike suits the aero tubes of the Madone.
Made it to the end 😂. The problem with the bike industry is that it seems as they want change just for the sake of change. You had better have deep pockets if you want to drink the 'kool aid'.
Demone 😈
1000% agree. Look at the SL8 with the “speed sniffer” the thing doesn’t even give better aerodynamics. The supposed 4 watt savings is actually from the handlebars.
Disregarding the fact that 80% of drag on the bike is the rider and not the equipment.
What’s with the Alex Jones conspiracy theory effect? You don’t know much about Mr Jones do you
I know he makes good facial expressions
Stop recording when you ride a bike! Pay attention to what's happening on the road, otherwise you are a danger to yourself and everyone around you!
😂😂😂 you comment this on every cycling video?
