- Honestly, I'm just surprised this even happened.
This was just a live commentary video I wanted to make after collecting my thoughts on the Undertow Revamp image. SURE, it could be better than I'm expecting, but it's still very clear that this solves none of the problems that anyone has with the map.
I also wanted to go over my thoughts on the map design as a Charger main, as you usually hear it from everyone but the backline.

I don't even need to make a followup video, I think everyone's disappointed by the update.
Personally, it's worse than I thought. Some of these changes seem even more pointless than I originally thought they'd be.
I mean the changes are pretty minor but they still made it better, the expanded spawn area makes it easier to retake the glass area if the enemy gets there, the lowered wall in the centre makes it easier to switch sides, and the small tunnels do make mid feel less cramped
nintendo's allergic to flank routes and the only prescription is poles
I had the exact same thoughts about this rework, the one thing they could've done and they did everything but remove the wall
I love rants about splatoon map design. I’m a charger main and a dualies main and I agree that the wall should be removed. I want to be challenged from my charger position and I want to be able to have a match up against a charger where I can chase them instead of dying as soon as they get their aim on me.

To be fair it's possible that the preview is just the turfwar layout and the ranked modes could see more positive changes

To be fair in your favor turf war is the only current mode where the right side of spawn doesn't exist, so maybe it could get a few tweaks (though at the same time it looks even more like they're completely cutting off that area even more soooo)

I'm always going to call undertow spillway as undertow shitway because idk who the fuck thought this was a "good" map for big run.
But for real, charger players that can stand their ground are to be feared. I only know how to use it in salmon run so I'm a bit rusty, trying to get the sheldon licenses for the new charger weapons.

I think it's interesting that the charger's perspective is "feeling like they lack impact," but it's good that you acknowledge that for the rest of us, the open-ness of the maps makes chargers not fun to play against. You go anywhere near mid and POW you're down for the count. It's quite hard to push up against chargers in S3, especially if there's more than one.
Also I feel like we need tweaks to matchmaking. I'm tired of queueing up for some Series and being put on a quad slayer team against three backliners and a tri slosher. It's not fun and because Nintendo are assholes I can't just leave because then I'm punished with the loss I'll be receiving in 5 minutes anyway. Either I get kicked from MP for 10 minutes or I suffer 5 minutes of agony and be able to try again immediately. It's dumb.
Oh my god, don't even get me started about the matchmaking. Playing Squiffer? No problem. The moment I pick Splat Charger, I get paired with another Splat Charger or an Eliter. No idea what's going on there.

Where you’re standing at 3:29 there should be an ink rail that goes over the glass, or they can replace the glass with a grate (sorta like some parts of urchin underpass) then have the ink rail go through it
omg that'd be even less work, maybe 5 minutes, and still improve the map significantly
