Here's the scary thing: _This isn't a joke._ There are literally people with considerable financial power who are seriously concerned with the issue of maintaining that power should "the Event" occur. (The Event being anything that causes the current society to collapse.)
We're talking about people who are seriously making plans for how to enslave and control people after the point where just "being rich" stops working. I can't stress this enough: This is something _real people_ are currently _actually_ thinking about.

    • @asmosisyup2557

What planning? They've been enslaving people for a long time. Look at the prison industrial complex in the U.S., increasing criminalisation, and prison population that can be forced to work for nearly nothing. Take a look at the rising cost of living, productivity to income ratios, the creeping dismantling of individual bankruptcy laws and re-introduction of generational debt. Debtor's prison will be back soon. They're not making plans, they're actively doing it now.

The ideal situation would be to have your head of security be someone like your spouse, your kid, or something like that.
Though that comes with it’s own risks. Family are far more likely to murder you than anyone else, and someone having a legitimate claim to your position _and_ having their own position puts you in a precarious position where _maybe_ they’ll love you and be loyal but _maybe_ they’ll see you as a roadblock to consolidating power.
Of course, the best situation would be to be a competent, highly skilled person yourself. But we all know that billionaires aren’t, so that leaves them in a bad situation.

If we actually have the apocalypse then I see two good options:
    1. You're in position where you're among the first to die (big boom and you're gone)
    2. You're in a position where you're mostly unaffected by said apocalypse and you have the skills to survive without current tech because that stuff will be gone then.
Every other option is going to suck.

Why would current tech be gone? It'll likely slip backwards a bit but realistic apocalyptic scenarios are going to end up looking more like Blade Runner 2049 than Mad Max.

    • @nodlimax
      @nodlimax 2 года назад +1

      @@shraka Three major factors:
      1. Generating electric power will be a problem for a while due to resource limitations. If sources for coal, oil, gas and so on are cut off, you will be sitting in the dark or rather have only limited availability for electricity.
      2. Current technology has major production chains behind it. If they get disrupted or destroyed you can say "bye bye" to smartphones, computers and everything else using micro-electronics (which is a LOT today). Remember that most current computer chips are produced in China and Taiwan. And electronics is just one factor.
      3. Let's assume it's a nuclear war for a second and you manage to survive. Nuclear explosions also generate EMP blasts which will fry a lot of current existing electronic devices if they aren't specifically shielded. Now combine that with point two and right away you're basically back in a pre-industrial age.
An atomic war would initially kill a lot of people through the explosions.
In the second stage even more people would die due to a lack of access to medical assistance.
In the third stage people would die from starvation and conflicts over access to resources like food.
This is why I'm saying there is only two good options for a person: Die instantly or be isolated and independent enough to not be affected by something like an atomic war.
