As cool as the 3rd edition of decent is, with its layered dungons in several different heights, i would wish that for the next edition it will be more like the 2nd edition. The 3rd pretty much needs you to use the app for the game, rather than something that can be used if you want. That's not good design.
I hope if there will be a 4th edition of decent that it will change this.
Mmmm, I wouldn't hold your breath, my friend. If they do make a 4th edition, it's going to be WAAAAAAY down the line. Comparatively speaking to previous editions, 3rd edition is an infant and has a long, long way to go before they feel like this version has been iterated upon (via expansions) enough to warrant a brand new take on the formula and consequent release of a new edition, and even then, the new edition will need to be just that: another FRESH take that brings people back and convinces them to buy yet another full edition of Descent. Whether or not they feel that this includes making the app optional is entirely up to them, but considering they've been only integrating the app into the game more and more over time, I really doubt that they'll come to that conclusion.
There is no 3rd Edition.
This game was designed from the ground up as an app driven game. The app is a massive part of its DNA.
Video game that wants to be a board game - pass. Cool trailer tho.
