Hi Jason. After 140 cruises and 81 cruises on Celebrity Cruises, I haven't heard about this problem with the safes. Security knows who goes in and out of your cabin between the cameras and the room key. I even spoke with some officers about this alleged missing money and they confirmed that they do know who goes in an out of the cabin and when. Love your channel!!

Ostentatious or publicized tipping is always tacky. My mother taught me never to show off my acts of giving.

I think it’s a cute idea. But I don’t know how the cabin attendants feel about it. Posting your tip is very tacky.

What I do on a cruise is when I set the passcode for the safe I touch all the numbers so that way they can put dust over it to figure out the numbers in the code. It helps to touch all the numbers as well so my fingerprints are on them all and they don’t know the code I just entered into the safe.

Regarding the theft, 1. Dont bring that much cash. 2. Dont advertise that you are bringing lots of cash. 3. Take photos of it for documentation and keep a count. 4. Make it harder to steal. Like dont just put it in the safe. There are locked pouches that you can buy to secure it. Put an airtag in it too. 5. Tip your cabin steward from the off so that person will be more vigilant in watching out for you. Or to deter them from stealing from you. 6. There are also other good hiding places for cash. 7. Divide and conquer, dont leave it all in the safe. Hide some somewhere else and carry some on you. This way, the loss is mitigated. 8. Add multiple layers of security like using another locked bag in the safe or like how I secure my luggage, i have a locked strap, suitcase cover, locking luggage, and I use smaller locks to fortify my zippers. If someone is going to steal from me, Im not making it easy for them. Usually theft is a crime of opportunity and time is generally limited. You could even put an alarm if the money is moved. Get creative.

Something I found on a minority of cruise ships is that the safe itself isn’t actually big enough to store some modern devices. So you have to secure your valuables as best you can and the cabin.

I was on a cruise ship in September I locked my values in the safe and wrote down the code and kept it on me that way I won’t forget it. On the fourth day of my cruise when I came from breakfast and put in the code my safe said error and it would not open. I told the steward and he called his supervisor and the supervisor came said someone put in the wrong code.

I would never announce publicly if and how much I tip. But I would also never post a picture of another person (cabin steward or whoever) without their consent. This is illegal in Germany. Everyone has their right on their own picture. So before taking other person´s face to the internet I would ask them if it´s OK.

Like what is seriously wrong with yall. How is this tacky? It’s thoughtful it took time to create this for your cabin attendant. Yall just want ppl to be carbon copy and do the same thing 90% of other ppl do? Now if they didn’t tip yall would be crying about that. It take 2 second to scope that money up

  • @randy120
    @randy120 4 месяца назад +1

Cabin and hotel room safes are overrated, there are too many employees that know the override code to open the safe. There are better methods of keeping your cash safe. I wear cargo pants with velcro pocket flaps which is where I keep my cash whenever I leave the cabin. If I do leave cash in the cabin I hide within my clothes in my locked suitcase.

If it encourages people to pay the people getting the money probably don't mind if tipping like that is tacky or not.
For cruise I had with my mother we put the tip envelope in the paws of a towel animal cabin attendant made early in the cruise on my request (relates to earlier trips with my mother) that we had kept the whole cruise. Previously the towell animal just held paper "don't break me".

While I will not do it or advertise it, if one has established a fun and positive rapport with there cabin steward, then I think this is fine as long as the meaning is meant as being grateful and not for clicks. Better than bringing the steward tacky baked goods that they don't want or not tipping at all while you act like a Samsonite gorilla in your cabin. Cash is dirty so I would want to spread it all over my bed anyway. I'll tip my way bc it works.

Hi Jason , I would say not having a lot of cash or valuables ( leave expensive jewelry home ) in the safe but what do you do when you win a nice win in the casino , I’m sure a lot of people find out, we were on the Spirit (ncl) last November my hubby won 5300.00 on buffaloes I was shocked , he tipped the people in casino well and put it in our safe of course , no problems,it did cross my mind what if ?.. it disappeared? I would have the the paperwork to prove the win IRS stuff , I guess I have faith the crew is honest, our stateroom attendant ,Krupish sp? Was fantastic we had a great cruise with NCL

That's how things are going now in our society. Big corporations are the worst with the "look at me and what I'm doing" attitude. Young people who haven't been taught properly follow these examples. I agree we are not supposed to show off our acts of giving.

Regarding #1: I have my doubts and hope I am very wrong. I truly hope they finally sail and they come back safely with lots of memories.
#2: I have always used the safe in the past, but I'm rethinking this based on some of the responses.
#3: That type of tipping should never show up on social media. I hand the tip to the room steward and give them a huge thanks.

Hold on… What about investigations by Celebrity? There would’ve been CCTV in the corridor I am certain. Did only members of the crew enter the cabin or did somebody from shore breach security? Either way, the cruise line is liable.
I have sung Celebrity’s praises for years. But whilst I’ve never had any negative experiences myself (quite the contrary) both this and the story about the woman who lost her luggage in Amsterdam are unacceptable. Do better, be the company you were throughout the 2010s.
