    The little red light above the ditch-lights is a DPU light used for DPU service on CN.

    Nice review James, I have the Intermountain KCS ES44AC version your right about how pretty it is, I do wish Intermountain offered DPU functions on all their units like my Scaletrains units, all in all Intermountain does makes some very nice locomotives.

    Great video there mate. I have just bought 3008 and 3023 in HO scale having missed the ScaleTrains versions. They look awesome and I am looking forward to enjoying my non sound versions. I may add sound later into them with a bass speaker.

    Thorough review, thank you. Just received an Atlas loco with the same package system. It's difficult putting the unit back in, unless you have three hands. The grid on the underside of the package is too small for fingers when re-inserting the screws. Some Genesis units in the past had a similar packaging approach with screws from the underside. Only an issue if you need to package things for travel to the club or shows.

    That little light on top of the ditchlight is actually a dpu light most cn and cp locos have them

  • @not_tom_from_myspace8090
    @not_tom_from_myspace8090 Год назад

    is it just me or is it missing the alert bell, priming noise, and engine cranking at the beginning of the prime mover start up? it seems like it just goes right to cylinders firing. Funny enough, the newer ScaleTrains ones do the same thing in their sound file, but not the actual ESU soundpack which appears to be correct... i dont get why that is lol

    Just ordered the BC rail unit and now have all the CN heritage units in ho the others one are the scaletrains and the GTW is Athearn so definitely will be interesting to compare these from the Scaletrains ones

    Picked up a KCS one recently and definitely noticed a larger gap between the trucks and the frame compared to other manufacturers. Looking broadside at track level it does look a bit unrealistic. It is an incredibly smooth and quiet locomotive though!

    These Locomotives are Pretty Darn sharp James i have few of the Canadian's in n Scale by Scaletrains the J looks really awesome in that Orange & Cream..
    I was wondering James are these solely built by Intermoutain or by Scaletrains i thought that Scaletrains had interest in Intermoutain or FoxValley or both but that might be just in N Scale but they do look Really Good
    Take Care James Allen D

    That extra-long coupler shank really detracts from the overall locomotive. I guess it's needed though for the 18" radius curves people like to run em on.

    • @wiseguysmith6519
      @wiseguysmith6519 Год назад

      I agree that it makes it look a bit off, but you can always swap it out for a shorter one. BTW, the instructions note that the MINIMUM recommended radius is 22".

    I can't understand why intermountain insists on making the windshields dark tinted like some pimped-up low rider. The prototypes are not tinted like that at all.

      @@jlwii2000why not Scaletrains?

    • @jlwii2000
      @jlwii2000  Год назад

      @@TobiasL1000 I will do an updated comparison of ScaleTrains vs Intermountain Tier 4's later. Right now the issue I am encountering is some longer term reliability. With the locos so evenly matched in many other categories this makes me lean slightly towards Intermountain. Scaletrains is stilli a good option in many ways.

    IMRC absolutely kicked the shit out of SXT on the window tint, hand brake chain and hand rails.
    SXT has better paint, overall detail
    Why can’t 1 manufacturer just do everything right?

    Seems like they screwed up the walkways for the BC Rail Unit. They are supposed to be silver, not blue. I dodged a huge bullet by buying the Scaletrains version.

    • @wiseguysmith6519
      @wiseguysmith6519 Год назад

      You are correct about the front porch, but the blue on the rest of the walkways are accurate.

    They should have incorporated the grounding lights with other light function.
    I did mine on other locos to have turn on with the number boards or headlights.
