Hera punishes women thought Or found to be in relations with Zeus. Yet many worshiped her, what other traits did she have? Of: Beauty magic? Power?

I think of 12 as a solar number, e.g. the 12 solar constellations, 12 months of a solar year, the 12 Ādityas or Hindu solar deities, the 12 apostles of the solar deity Jesus, etc. Not sure where/when that usage originates, but the likes of Zeus and Apollo seem aligned with that.

I have had one question for a long time but never found a real answer yet... Why are sea gods nearly always also associated with horses?

    •  4 месяца назад +3

That I know of, it's only Poseidon that is both a sea god and associated with horses. I don't know of any other sea deity associated with horses. There is, however, many beings in folklore that are both associated with water and with horses, and they themselves can transform into horses. Especially in Scandinavian and British Folklore. For that type of information, I have 4 videos on the subject, or rather, 4 parts on the same subject, starting here: ruclips.net/video/dPnsZNfCMQQ/видео.html
      2nd part: ruclips.net/video/GlbbaijVSEg/видео.html
      3rd part: ruclips.net/video/Rzv0JBbpm9E/видео.html
      4th part: ruclips.net/video/zUdnsGJyp4M/видео.html
On Poseidon and horses, I suspect that the reason why Poseidon was associated with Horses, it's because they were as important means of transportation and trade as were boats and other sea-vessels. The Ancient Greek world required quite a lot of sea voyages, and many horses must have also been transported in boats. Sea voyages are never easy for animals, and horses being important for land transportation and trade, Poseidon's protection and blessings on horses traveling by sea must have been a way to ensure that the losses were not too great.

I'm confused about Greek women, and Hera. Ive always wondered if she has been defaced. She's a cartoonish figure, the sort of women bitter, drunken old men make their wives out to be. She seems to be, in herself, a warning against women in general as jealous, spiteful, scheming, controlling, nagging - this is 90s stand up, not a goddess like any other. There are interactions recorded between the hellenics and the near east where there is a tradition of more God like goddesses, and mentions of the eastern and also proto hellenics being more equal and being mocked by the Greeks for asking their mothers council /permission before they act.
I think when you compare Athena and Artemis, even Aphrodite, to Hera she does not fit the mold. In the illiad we see Athena as dignified and sensible and godlike as any other, she is not a degraded figure. Hera is sensible and comes to zues as a wife wishing to change her husband's mind, trying to make him see sense and do what seems right instead of honoring contracts. Is this not seen in every house? but later we have stories of how Hera is, not to mince words, a crazy b*tch and little else, certainly not a icon of reason.
I hear the Greek women were not so hapless as we imagine, but that we have accounts of women influencing their husband's and their husband's rivals and allies. In early socities and persisting is the impulse to form societies, the women may not have been in the club we write of and study, but they were in charge of the home and managed interpersonal and community relations much the same as women every where always have
