@@joprocter4573 the DUP should be renamed the welfare party as all they want is handouts from the UK. The protocol gives NI the best of both worlds but they’ll don’t see that now but they were happy to support it when Boris signed it.

The protocol is undeniable proof ,that Brexit has been a disaster .England Wales and Scotland would bite your hand off for a protocol ,so its not that the DUP wants the worst ,its the ERG that hates being exposed

The protocol has not paralyzed Stormont. The DUP have paralyzed Stormont because they don't want a Sinn Féin first minister. But the DUP know they cannot say that so they are using the protocol as an excuse.
No they wanted democratic brexit the voted for not negotiate this or that. One needs to know if we in UK.. North Sea.. I dependant NI.. Tax haven. Stateless or surreptitiously been handed on platter to roi.. Then any speaker or any leading party has a job.. Actually theres less Nationalists seats now in Stormont than what there was before and theres a unionist majority of seats. Nationalists actually scored an own goal in voting big for Sinn fein for the first minister role as they weakened the S D L P and other nationalist parties vote to the alliance party who are a Northern Ireland party.
The first minister and deputy hold the exact same power its only a symbolic thing so Stormont would suit the D U P alright as unionists have more power than they did have before.
Why would Unionists allow Sinn Fein to take power when they can return administration to their precious Westminster instead? They never supported the GFA to begin with, why would they relinquish power to their arch enemies now?
If DUP had won the election would this boycott over the protocol still be happening? No

The title of the video is misleading. The protocol is not paralysing Stormont, it's the DUP using the protocol as an excuse not to sit with Sinn Fein as the largest party. The whole thing is a red herring.

There needs to be a new rule for the Stormont assembly. If an elected MLA of ANY party refuses to take their seat for ANY reason and prevents a cabinet from being formed by a certain date, that MLA automatically loses their seat, and that seat automatically goes to whichever unelected candidate finished next down the list in that constituency irrespective of party This should be made a legal proviso of running for election to the NI assembly. Any MLA who doesn't like that idea shouldn't be running for election in the first place.

@Dave Alex Are you trying to say the current impasse and lack of government in NI isn’t “silly”? There isn't a Northern Ireland government anyway so you should perhaps have a rethink about what you consider "silly”. People whose aim is to block democratic institutions from functioning unless they can dictate to everyone else shouldn’t be running in democratic elections in the first place. Otherwise it makes NI a dictatorship of some rather than a democracy for all.
