Fun fact : When you just entered the Soul Sanctum, there is an arena that locks and you have to fight a soul twister. The fun fact is that I died to him and thought it was a boss.
I was playing with some friends. One was gone and I was just exploring around, encountered it, and just let myself die so that I could fight it later. Many days and most of Deepnest later, we happened upon that room again, remembered the whole thing, and proceeded to absolutely sweep the floor

Or perhaps to stave off the infection? Either way, with their goals in mind, it switches to F minor, almost as if to say: _"There has to be a way to achieve it"_ The Ab chord once again reflects the beauty of immortality, and the Eb seems to bring us back to their desire, while also adding desperation to it. The return to the F minor chord plays as they start brainstorming, and as we land on the G chord, they settle on their brutal, horrifying plan. The full organ starts at 0:43 as they follow through with their plan, stealing the soul of others and injecting it right into themselves. And the shifting arpeggios in the background seem the change as their plan appears to work more and more, The key change at 1:40 seems to invoke melancholy. Perhaps some slight regret or guilt? I can imagine the soul master late at night at his work desk, while everyone else is asleep, silently crying over the crimes he committed, but still working to progress. But then at 1:58, it's all revealed, and all for nothing. All the lives lost, the soul totems that were stolen, even the kidnapped snail shaman, all that for nothing. The plan was a failure from the very start. Now they're all infected, moving about their old sanctum like slugs, knowing that their plan failed and they never succeeded.

@@dub7122 The Soul Sanctum scholars have been kidnapping Hallownest bugs and draining them of their soul (killing them) in an effort to cure the infection and become immortal. You can see mountains of corpses under the Soul Master's arena.
@@dub7122 There's also the sad implications of the spells you can acquire in the Sanctum. After you get Desolate Dive and return to the Ancestral Mound, the Snail Shaman who gave you Vengeful Spirit comments that Desolate Dive reminds him of his bad-tempered third uncle, meaning the Soul Master first got ahold of said uncle in order to force it out of him and use it in the first place. Then when you beat the second Soul Warrior behind the Elegant Door, there's ANOTHER Snail Shaman hooked up to machines, and it cries out and disappears to give you the Shade Soul. Something tells me those two were far from the only Snail Shamans to be kidnapped and experimented on by the scholars in the Sanctum. Maybe the one in the Crystallized Mound (the fourth aunt of the one in the Ancestral Mound) sealed herself in crystal to avoid being taken.
3:10 The slightly off-beat notes help convey the true horror of what you're fighting against. This place used to be home to those who studied soul, only to be corrupted, disfigured, amalgamated into what you see in the fights with Soul Master and Soul Tyrant. They played with death and this is the result.
Ah, what a calm-yet-sinister track. The second part really conveys that “I’m constantly running from at least 3 Soul Twisters at all time, walking into one room that I haven’t explored yet, then going all the way back to the bench to update the map, then maybe going back for another room, repeat process, then getting my butt kicked by Soul Master despite having Shade Soul, Abyss Shriek, Coiled Nail, a handful of useful charms, and literally 50 hours of experience. when i entered soul sanctum for the first time i was like "this music sounds scary and special, this must be the final area of the game. i better go now"
I just beat him for the first time last night, and it probably took me 20+ tries to finish that little bugger off. Especially when the battle *kept going*! At first I was scared of going all the way through the Sanctum again, but then the Soul Twisters just got annoying. Muscle memory for the win.

My whole experience was... interesting. If I recall correctly it started with a small boss, or perhaps one of the soul twisters. I at least thought it was a boss. And after that you face the so called boss that you beat over and over with it coming back each time. But this time at full power and kind of a true form. If was amazing... This hits so hard and the storytelling in just one track is crazy especially for an indie studio. Thanks Chris Larkin and the whole gang in team cherry❤
All of them do. False Knight - Failed Champion Dung Defender - White Defender Broken Vessel - Lost Kin Nosk - Winged Nosk Mantis Lords - Sisters of Battle Radiance - Absolute Radiance Hollow Knight - Pure Vessel
The reason behind this is because when he dives and breaks the floor, the knight sees all the bodies of the dead bugs in the background so that's why his name changes meaning that the knight had a little respect for him, but it changed in the dive so thats why hes called a tyrant in the dream phase
Soul Tyrant is WAY better than Soul Master, simply because you can just give him another go at him once you die. I'll never forgive the Soul Sanctum's architects for not placing a single bench throughout the place.
@@thefrogggy100 Uh yeah, that's called starting the fight over. Having to go through the Soul Sanctum all over again isn't a punishment, it's wasting my time

i love how all the area music in the game before this is very light, and then this theme comes in and lets you know that the scholars did some fucked up shit. sm's theme sounds so evil i have never stank faced so hard at an orchestral piece
In my personal perspective, the soul sanctum represents the the dark rituals and sacrifices and the poor results, while soul master theme kinda represents the bosses perspective of his failure to stop the infection.

Rip to the lore comment(s), I'll try to give a summary of this place, lot of spoilers ahead: Soul Master thought the way to beat the Radiance's effects on bugs' dreams was to harness the power of souls. However the Pale King knew the void was a better method of containment, realised that this wouldn't be the right method, because of the risk of corruption (not the possible death toll though - pretty sure he killed millions of his kids). Soul Master did it anyway, but he needed souls, and so he killed a lot of Hallownest bugs. This resulted in a lot of corpses, a mass grave in the heart of Hallownest. Also the plan failed, the Radiance took over the Soul Master anyway.
Soul Master was infected before he started killing other bugs for soul. After defeating Soul Tyrant his spirit says this: "In my dreams I could see it. The Kingdom's salvation, the cure for the plague... the answer was in the soul that animates our bodies.". This means that his crazy plan was presented to him by Radiance and he took the bait and became infected. Also when he spreaded his plan and thoughts to other Soul Sanctum bugs they also became infected. Pale King did not oppose Soul Master's plan because his plan was better but because Soul Master became infected and so he knew that Radiance gave him this idea, which couldn't lead to anything good.

yet this is my favorite area in the game just because of this, very, theme.
Honestly, after u finish this area, u've an elevator that let's u to avoid some enemies in this area & u have probably opened several shortcuts. So i feel like the sense of dread is supposed to be gone by that point. But that area was great anyway
*I like how Soul Masters theme is part of Soul Sanctum when it LITERALLY SHOULDNT BE*
I have a grudge against soul twister’s
Same
Kinda. They're cool enemies, but when there are too many of them, it gets annoying
@@user-yg6ki7ou2y you have a point
I hope we get less teleporting stuff in silksong
@@eriklarsen6790 well from gameplay we’ve seen so far, they haven’t shown much of anything magic related so that should be down to a minimum
2:11 why didn’t they do this in the actual game it would have worked so well
It’s soul masters theme
@@thereisanewchannel8239 in the actual game the music stops and gose straight to the boss theme but in the sound track once the main sole sanctum theme ends it ameditly gose into the boss theme
@@Godlymusic9958 yeah I see it, It would’ve sounded cool in the actual game.
Absolutely my favourite area theme in the entire game. So melancholic...
Imagine the vessel ( the character) screaming and crying as he’s jumping while being chased by soul twisters.
God I love organs (the instruments not the fleshy mechanisms in us)
Soul Master traumatized me. I died so many times more than any boss fight I've ever encountered in the game. The most enjoyable part of Soul Sanctum is this music. It was like my company to calm me a bit to kill Soul Master for the 999999th time :)
Fr same with hornet... she literally must've killed me 53725472753848 times 😅
For me it ws the damn mantis lords specially the spikes I died A LOT and have'd to just go from that one anoying bench so many times I learnt the way to avoid everything with god like precision lol
Motiv from City of Tears played by the adult, now fully on living in a zombified city while in a local sanctuary. Then infection bursts in through the stained glass.
You can just *feel* something messed up happened here, its like the atrocities that went on here weigh down on the music and atmosphere.
No se que *decir* realmente, esto es *brillante.*
3:24-4:05 The best part for me🔥
Honestly my favorite soundtrack in the whole game.
This song does such a good job at putting you on edge when combined with the enemy difficulty
Soul Master try to not teleport for more than 3 seconds challenge [IMPOSSIBLE]
This hits so hard and the storytelling in just one track is crazy especially for an indie studio. Thanks Chris Larkin and the whole gang in team cherry❤
Watching this while constipated made my shit go descending dark 🔥
Lmao
Fun fact. Soul master’s name changes from Soul Master to Soul Tyrant after you fight his second phase
All of them do.
False Knight - Failed Champion
Dung Defender - White Defender
Broken Vessel - Lost Kin
Nosk - Winged Nosk
Mantis Lords - Sisters of Battle
Radiance - Absolute Radiance
Hollow Knight - Pure Vessel
@@uwukid8770 I mean when you see the lower house part of the arena, not the dream version.
@@PrimitiveAspid Oh? I don't recall it changing in there, I'll have to check it out.
The reason behind this is because when he dives and breaks the floor, the knight sees all the bodies of the dead bugs in the background so that's why his name changes meaning that the knight had a little respect for him, but it changed in the dive so thats why hes called a tyrant in the dream phase
@@lucasjaramillovargas9422 the knight never respected him. He doesn't have any emotions or feelings, he doesn't know what Respect is
THE GREATEST VIDEO GAME OST
using this for a vampire castle encounter in my D&D campaign
Soul Tyrant is WAY better than Soul Master, simply because you can just give him another go at him once you die. I'll never forgive the Soul Sanctum's architects for not placing a single bench throughout the place.
I think thats a skill issue. Ever heard of the game punishing you for dying?
@@thefrogggy100 Uh yeah, that's called starting the fight over. Having to go through the Soul Sanctum all over again isn't a punishment, it's wasting my time
welcome you shame walked
I used benchwarp to place a bench before this boss but it was worthless since i beat him first try
The Castlevanian part of the game
by a long way the best boss theme
"Dung defender has joined the voice channel"
Pure vessel, The Hollow knight, nkg, white defender, and hornet have joined the chat
Soul Sanctum and Sisters of Battle/Mantis Lords themes for me.
I’m not sure which I like more.
@@frosbeechill doma doma doma!
@@zataiyo6738 it's weird because doma means "at home" in Russian
Soul Tyrant attempt 24: made it to second phase for the second time. Died a bit after however. Somehow I like lost Kin more.
After you're done you can attempt the suffering of Soul Tyrant Radiant.
Sure, I’ve just been cleaning up before p5
Christopher Larkin casually composing one of the best video game soundtracks all by himself, what a GOAT.
Not a day goes by where I don’t wish soul master had his own ost, it’s such a banger
Hearing this theme for the first time, high af, fighting so hard to not die against those soul douches. It was such a hype when I reached that second part. God how I wish I could replay this gem for the first time
I'm playing it for the first time now and just cleared this area. Amazing that I've gone this long without playing this game.
2:02 this part to me always sounded like the waves part of interstellar
Why tf does this theme make it seem like I'm about the fight the final boss of the game-
I remember when I first got to the Soul Master, I thought at was near the end of the game...
Was the hollow knight sound track deleted or something
YES. The original channel IndiGo, has been terminated for copyright infringement, I suspect for also having Nintendo OST uploaded.
@@Amellifera. Aw that sucks, there were so many good comments on those uploads, especially this one with the backstory of this area
@@GoogleUser-ms6hr yeah thats sad I was looking all over for the soundtrack and I couldn't find it sucks that the original uploader got terminated
@@Amellifera.
Damn. Nintendo's on its way to become a fucking Disney.
Me: {beats the boss and goes to Soul Sanctum, and immediately likes the music}
Also me: NOPE WHAT THE FRICK ALL THE ENEMIES ARE INSANE I'M OUT OF HERE
i LOVE this track so much. the enemies in soul sanctum are so annoying but this sets the tone so well it's honestly perfect and tells you something went terribly wrong in this place
2:16 oh my...
this song really emphasizes the *Vania* in Metroidvania
this is so good
i love how all the area music in the game before this is very light, and then this theme comes in and lets you know that the scholars did some fucked up shit. sm's theme sounds so evil i have never stank faced so hard at an orchestral piece
3:08 good shit 👌 👍
This is so sad the literal emotion in the music and the setting in which this piece takes place. Chefs kiss
His kingdom will fall
But I will live forever
In my personal perspective, the soul sanctum represents the the dark rituals and sacrifices and the poor results, while soul master theme kinda represents the bosses perspective of his failure to stop the infection.
Rip to the lore comment(s), I'll try to give a summary of this place, lot of spoilers ahead:
Soul Master thought the way to beat the Radiance's effects on bugs' dreams was to harness the power of souls.
Pale King did not oppose Soul Master's plan because his plan was better but because Soul Master became infected and so he knew that Radiance gave him this idea, which couldn't lead to anything good.
i died so many times to the soul twister dipshits only to first try Soul Master
*anxiety and fear while running from 4 Soul Twisters, panicking to find a transition to get away*
the beat slaps when it hits the drop.....
This, Nosk and the God is my favorite.
It has a kind of a cynthwave vibe which i absolutely love and adore! I wish there was more ways to show support the 3 chad lads
Idk what it is, but the organ just makes everything sound more frightening and mysterious to any music it’s in, and this is no exception
God I hated the soul sanctum, Those teleporting enemies were so annoying… but the rewards here are pretty nifty!
You could even say they’re ground breaking rewards
