I grew up going to the nationals 2004-2010 I watched Ricky and James Stewart battle it out until rickys retirement consider this the glory days of motocross great video
awesome man, great video, his Pro Circuit Kawasaki is still one of my favorite bikes he was on, i'll never forget me and my friend losing our shit when we seen that bike. All of his bikes look fantastic to this day
His perfect season was in 2002 and 2004, both on Honda... his favorite bike in his own words were his 97 KX125, 04 CRF450R (perfect season) and his 2005 RM250.
I got one of Ricky’s race jerseys at Southwick, it was during his first perfect season. I renewed my RacerX subscription, and my name went into a drawing I had no idea was happening. I heard my name over the loudspeaker, went to the booth and got my autographed Jersey. I kept it for a while and then put it in with a PeeWee hole shot award for one of the JDay Off-road rounds. Felt good to pass it onto the next generation!
Okay, here’s a good Ricky Carmichael Story... so I’m at the Southwick National in 1999, and there was several of us fans right behind the starting gate before the second 125 moto & Ricky lined up about 75% to the outside of turn 1, so, my mom’s cousin screams to Ricky “Hey, Ricky, Talon Voland’s going to fly right past you on the inside and he’s gonna be gone!!” And Ricky Carmichael looked back at us & Screamed “Please!! He Couldn’t Even Beat Matt Walker” (whom I learned watching the tape of race which I recorded to a VHS Tape while airing on ESPN 2 on the following Sunday, Matt Walker trained practicing with Ricky Carmichael & Ezra Lusk for the whole week before the race...)
I'll never forget those days and I'll never forget watching him and Travis PASTRANA racing on 80s at LORETTA LYNN'S and getting to know them as well before they made it big I have pictures of RC from when he moved up to the 125s to his last race and I have Jeremy McGrath pictures from 92 till his last year as well and I have tons of Autographs from both of them and McGrath gave me two of his Jersey's his 95 and one of his 98 Yamaha jerersy SO MANY MEMORIES OF THE KING AND THE GOAT!!!!!
2001 Anaheim #2 I think. Ricky Carmichael started in almost last but finished in the lead by the end. I will never forget that race. Jeremy McGrath doubled the triple then Ricky passed him but he tripled it. THE GOAT
was the 3rd round at anaheim. mc jumped too far into the face of the triple and could only double it while ricky tripled it and that was the race. anaheim 2 was another great race between mc and rc in which rc could've won, but lost by 9/10s of a second. mcgrath was my favorite of all time and that 2001 season was a tough one to remember but you gotta hand it to rc. arguably the most dominant season in supercross history by anyone
They weren't both on the 450.... 02 was his CR250R and 04 was the switch to the 4 stroke for his first time which he went 24/0. Both were Honda, but they weren't the same bike. That 04 outdoor title was the only premier class title Honda has ever won on a 450 in AMA motocross or supercross... it's never won a title indoors, last premier class supercross title for Honda was 2003 on a CR250R, also won by RC. Since RC left at the end of 2004, Honda hasn't won a premier class title indoors or out... I call it the RC curse. Next year will be 20 years since their last suoercross title and 19 outdoors... they've won a few 250/lites titles indoors and out with Geico Honda and just recently with Jett Lawrence on HRC, but not the big boy class... not even Roczen a proven champion could get it done for big red. Sexton or Jett will be their best shot, if they can't get it done, I don't see anyone else coming up that can.
Great question. I think it was a different spring and custom components. Thank you for your comment. As we aim to grow, please subscribe and get as many motorcycle friends as you can to join in. I'll keep it coming!
Go watch outdoors... from 2005-2007, James only got 3 overalls against ricky... all 3 of those, Ricky crashed while leading with the overall in hand. James never beat ricky outdoors for an overall straight up. Ricky had 10/10 motocross titles, 2 perfect seaons 05 he also won every overall but lost 2 motos from crashes, should of been 3 perfect seasons) 5 450 supercross titles. 76 450 motocross overall wins, 26 125 motocross overall wins (102 overalls combined) and 48 450 supercross wins for a grand total of 150 c9mbined MX/SX national wins and 15 national titles (125 supercross regionals dont count) .... James has 98 combined MX/SX wins, 2 more supercross wins with 50, and 2 450 supercross titles (he rode more seasons than Ricky to get those two extra wins), 1 450 outdoor title which made him the second guy to have a perfect season, and 2 125 motocross titles. For a combined 5 National titles. Ricky dethroned the king of supercross and never lost another supercross title after, he never lost an outdoor title his entire career. He raced and beat legends like McGrath, Chad Reed, James Stewart, and many other big names... Your 'fastest man' ever could not only steal a single outdoor overall from Ricky, but he never once beat Ricky for a title indoors or out...No one ever did besides McGrath while Ricky was going through 250 growing pains in supercross in 99 and 2000. Tell me again how James was better and faster? He should of atleast won a single overall straight up outdoors... Outdoors is a shit ton faster than supercross. Yeah he beat RC in supercross and had the edge in 2006 and 07, but it never translated for a title because he was on the ground. If Ricky pushed past his limits like James and crashing didn't matter, Ricky could of gone that fast, but why do that and risk it when you know James is gonna end up on the ground and lose a ton of points? It's about titles and wins... and while Ricky has 2 less wins than James, he's got 3 more titles and he did all of it in less years. He didn't race in 2004 due to knee injury in the off season, but from 2001-2006, he won 5 titles. If he rode in 04 he probably would of had 6 straight 450 supercross titles and if he that year, he probably would of gotten 8 wins or more, putting well ahead of James in wins... and it still would of been done in less seasons. So show me some statistics to back your claim....
2002 = perfect on a CR250R 2003 = not perfect Via the return of Kevin Windham on the big new 450. 2004 = Perfect ..... RC jumped on the rocketship 450 and left town winning by over 30 seconds in almost every moto which lead Kdub to this famous quote.. Kevin Windham ~ "Where am I going to find 3 seconds?" In regards to the amount of difference between Kevin's fastest lap and RC's fastest lap.
Ya I just picked one up and he changed all the plastics out but the original plastics on the bike have the big Chevy and number 4 it’s pretty bitch tbh.
Hate to correct you, but Ricky did not have a perfect season in 2001 nor was it with Kawasaki. His two perfect seasons were 2002 and 2004 both on Honda.
What was the record he set in 2001 on a Kaw? It's when Mike Brown pulled over at Steel City to let him by....Was it most wins in a seasons? I thought he was still with Kaw in 02?
@@cycledrag I believe he set most 125 wins or something in 01 at steel city.He was with Kawi from 97 to 2001,honda 2002 to 2004 and suzuki 2005 to 2007.
Hmm that's a tough one. Guess my favorite would be my first time seeing him in person, the 1st Thunder Valley National in 2005 in Denver. Planned to see him at the Las Vegas Supercross in 2004 but was hurt that SX season, but still gotta see Stewart in his last 125 2 stroke supercross race.

I saw Carmichael race Glen Helen on his 250 two stroke and it was incredible how good he actually was in the outdoors.

That kx 250 was beautiful.. is there any vids that show all the bikes in there?
I watched him race at Broome Tioga from 1997-2001 and Unadilla 2001. He was just on another level.
I saw Marty Tripes at Carlsbad USGP in 1979...
I watched him at Dade City Motocross, a local track when he was a kid on an 80.
KD is the man! and Ricy you are a legend
I wanna know more details! What's the weight of these bikes, how many horse powers? How would THESE bikes stand up against MODERN bikes of today?
From what I recall Ricky still holds some of the lap record times on his CR250 at some tracks
@@dudleylandsberg1747 Really, where can I see more about that? Interesting!
