  • In Revelation 3:15-16, Lukewarm Christianity is dangerous, because it deceives us into thinking that we are fine when we are, in fact, spiritually distant from God. This half-hearted commitment prevents us from experiencing the fullness of God’s grace and truth in our lives.
    I. Separation from God’s Favor
    1. Loss of Intimacy with God Lukewarmness gradually separates us from experiencing God’s presence in our daily lives. God desires a fervent relationship with us, one marked by devotion, prayer, and obedience.
St. Alphonsus Liguori said, “God wishes that we either entirely love Him, or entirely hate Him; but that we be not indifferent toward Him.”
Lukewarmness in our spiritual life causes us to lose the intimacy that comes from loving God wholeheartedly.
    2. Spiritual Dullness: One of the consequences of being lukewarm is the development of spiritual blindness. Lukewarm Christians often think they are spiritually healthy when, in reality, they are blind to their spiritual state..
The Catechism states, “Conversion requires convincing of sin; it includes the interior judgment of conscience”(CCC 1450).
Lukewarmness dulls the conscience, making us unaware of our need for conversion and repentance.
St. Teresa of Avila said, “It is better to see our own sinfulness and fight against it, than to remain blind in false security.”
The consequence of lukewarmness is that we stop seeing our need for grace, falling into spiritual stagnation.
    3. Loss of Spiritual Influence: Lukewarm Christians lose their ability to impact others for Christ. Their faith lacks the passion, conviction, and joy that inspire others. Instead of being a light to the world, lukewarm believers are like dimmed lamps.
St. John Paul II said, “The lukewarm person offers neither light nor heat.”
    4. Hindering the Work of God: Lukewarm Christians often hinder the work of God by failing to respond to His call for service and mission. Instead of being vessels of His grace, they become obstacles to God’s will, choosing comfort over sacrifice.
St. Ignatius of Loyola said, “Lukewarmness paralyzes the soul. It neither resists evil nor does it strive for the good.”
This paralysis keeps us from actively participating in God’s work, both in our own lives and in the world.
Lukewarmness can lead to spiritual stagnation and, if left unchecked, may ultimately result in a complete falling away from the faith.
However, Jesus, in His great love for us, desires that we return to Him with hearts full of zeal and devotion. He calls us to examine our lives, seek forgiveness, and reignite our passion for Him.

Dear Lenny thank you for your talk. We need to develop a close relationship with God.. We may do the right things like attending Mass, Novenas etc, but if our hearts are not God centered then we become luke warm Christians. We need to be witnesses to Christ by evangelising His Word. We ask God to take away our apathy & fill us with zeal in all we do for Him. God bless you, Nadia, your Mum, & the children.
Lenny need a special prayer - having a chk with a cardiologist on Thursday eve - that all will go well. My grateful thanks. Godbless 💕
