    Dishwashers that flash the UO error code are frequently experiencing problems with the dishwasher exhaust fan. You can access the dishwasher exhaust fan by removing the 2 mounting screws under your counter holding the dishwasher in place. In this case the dishwasher exhaust fan is located on top of the dishwasher. Check for any broken parts in the fan assembly and make sure that the wiring harness is connected properly. There may be chaffing on the wiring that could be causing the problem. Lastly, it could be the control board itself. In general, the problem will exist at the fan assembly, itself, and will need replacing. Thanks for watching!

    Our Frigidaire dishwasher had the same issue. When turning it on, it would make a clunking sound 4 or 5 times and then display the UO error code. We saw advice that connecting the brown and yellow wires inside the vent would be a temporary fix and that worked as long as you don't use heat-dry but is not safe to do.
    However, as it worked, we knew this meant the optical switch was not closing the circuit and had gone bad. The optical sensor is the tiny component labeled U1 on the small circuit board inside the vent under the fan.
    We ignored the "no serviceable parts inside" warning and replaced it with a nearly identical part from an online electronic components store that cost just 81 cents excluding shipping. We desoldered the old sensor, threaded the leads of the new part into the board and soldered the new part in. We had to clip the wires to the PCB when we removed it and simply resoldered them back. Be sure to label them before you cut them.
    The part was described as an Optical Switch, Transmissive, Phototransistor Output 2mm SLOT TYPE 30V. Specifically, it was made by Omron, model # EE-SX1105. Special tools required were a desoldering iron to remove the old component and a soldering iron and solder to install the new one. if you have soldering skills this is easy - my 15 year old had fun applying his skills. If you don't have soldering skills or equipment you won't want to attempt this unless you can find someone to help. My son only charged me $10 for his labor - it took him about 20 minutes. :-)

      Great job! A lot of pc boards have the same problem - penny parts go bad, especially capacitors and relays. The trick is to be able to identify the little part - not easy at all, considering that board parts are rarely shown on technical diagrams. We do replace the capacitors and relays, when they are common or are well-labeled. *A note to anyone reading this - always upgrade the capacitors on boards, if you choose to do the repairs. Japanese brands, made in Japan, fair pretty well.

      Based at the comments from roundrockguy... I looked at the yellow and brown wires and tried to check for a change in resistance across the two with the vent open and closed and couldn't get a noticeable change in the reading.. about 10M ohms in both cases so I ordered a new assembly. However.. I assumed that if I shorted the two together it would erase the code and that didn't happen either... Do you know what the resistance values should be or where I can look to find that information.??? Thanks

    Thanks for the help, I followed all your directions and removed the screw cap, removed the screws and turned it over to see if there was gunk on the washer side and everything fell out of the top where the fan was. I put it together except I have no clue where the spring belongs and want to make sure I reset the parts correctly. Can I get a picture of where the screw goes and how it should look assembled? Thank you

    You don't need to spend $150 on this part. The most likely broken thing on the part is the optical sensor that tells the dishwasher if the vent is open or not. I was able to fix my diswasher with a part that is only $0.71 (Although shipping was $6). Check out this guy who explains how to fix it. It does take some soldering skills (and a soldering iron if you don't already have one), ruclips.net/video/VfPJY3DCXGQ/видео.html

    In what circumstances COULD it be the control board? We just replaced the touch screen on the dishwasher last night, and now that the touch screen is replaced, we're getting the UO error- which we weren't getting before. I'm wondering if some of the wires could have been knocked loose during the replacement process. The error seems to be somewhat intermittent as well? Last night we were able to successfully perform MOST of a dishwashing cycle before we got the error again...

      +nathalsa you'll need to test voltage to the fan from the board. Touch screen usually "programs" the main board. Voltage leaves main board to fan. Probably a little complicated, if you're not comfortable with electricity and wiring diagrams. Check wiring first.

    Hi Tim
    I have a new blower vent assembly, but when I removed the dishwasher, I noticed that all of the wires were torn. Is there a way to buy just the wire assembly that connects the blower vent to the control board? If I can just by that wire, I think it will solve the problem. I have tried to wire nut the torn wires, but have one extra orange wire that I can't figure what it connects to.

      +Matt McElroy you should be able to find it. Just call a local appliance parts distributor and give them your model number. They should be able to help.

    Hey tim do you know when that fan is supposed to turn on i took mine apart it was pretty gunked up in there but after cleaning and reasmbly i left my washer out so i could make sure all is well and i havnt seen or heard it turn on yet thanks great video

      Drying..... the end. If you're not getting the error, you solved it. Gasket only opens for releasing the hot, wet air. Good luck.

    Where do you buy the fan

  • @hypailakian423

    I require your expertise again Tim.
    I'm getting the same error code again. When I pull out the dishwasher and tap on the fan, it continues the washing process. But eventually gives up on me again.
    Could this be because of a faulty part? When I disassembled the part the first time, I cleaned the rubber parts around the hole but didn't really clean in the box/fan.
    Also - if it is a faulty part - where do you recommend I purchase a new one (I'm located in Canada). Do you know the part number?
    Any help is appreciated.

      +Hy Pailakian if you're tapping the fan, and it works for a while, it's either the fan or the wiring/wiring harness. Most likely it's the fan. Fortunately, it doesn't sound like the control board. Best bet is a new fan assembly. Part number depends on model. Find your model number (usually on the door frame) and search for the part or call a local appliance parts shop.

    I've replaced the vent fan 3 times this year. Nothing has ever been stuck in it. So now I just replaced the control board and low and behold I have the same uo code. Help! 😭

      @byrdappliancespecialists3356  6 лет назад

      Check for chaffed wiring and loose connections. Clean connections with contact cleaner that is computer safe. Wire harness replacement may be in your future. Hard to say. If it's happening every time, you could test for grounding on the wire harness as well. Good luck!

    Can the control board itself make a clicking noise? We hear a click, click, click sound that appears to be coming from the door right in the area of the control board? Is there a relay on the control board that could be going bad causing the clicking sound and the UO error?

    Hi. My gallery just gives me a flashing E and then u. I just wanted no uo. Is this the same thing? I can't find anything on just a u error code

    • @byrdappliancespecialists3356
      @byrdappliancespecialists3356  5 лет назад

      Not sure on that one. It could still be the fan, and you're missing the second digit on the LED screen. Just a guess without seeing it.

      @@byrdappliancespecialists3356
      Yes, I figured out that the second digit wasn't lighting up. Which is a separate issue I guess. So I decided to go ahead and investigate the fan. I took it out, cleaned it and stretched out the spring a little to help it open, close. Put it back together and it's a running! My wife thinks I'm a magician... Thanks for the video. Yours was the only one that really helped 👍
