- Here is how to fix the coolant leak under the admission of your Mustang GT for 7 bucks instead of 450 bucks with a mechanic.
You will need sockets # 8 and #10 and some basic tools and remember how to put it back together.
Hope this helps and saves you Money and headaches.
the hose is 5/8 diameter, I used a small dremel tool to cut the left end of the old hose for removal.
make sure the car is not hot like in my case.
You can do it!!
Auto shop wanted 600 dollars. I did it myself with your help. Thanks
You are welcome, glad I could help
Big thanks to you Sir!!!! Really helped clear up what I was going to have to do before doing it. If you mission was to help Mustang Enthusiasts...you succeeded with flying colors!
Thanks for showing this. I have a coolant leak somewhere in my '06 that I haven't been able to locate. Dollars for dimes, that's it... 👍
Thanks for taking the time to thoroughly show us the point of failure and how you chose to repair it. BTW, I was going to take the route to replace entire heater tube assembly, but dealer kept sending me damaged parts... So I appreciate another alternative. I think your repair could easily outlast the life of using the factory parts too!
thanks Josh for the comment, I think so too, I protected the hose from heat as well, so hope it last long, im on 215k miles already so far so good.
@@fernandomartin624if you don't mind me asking, what did You used to protect the hoes from heat?
@@asaeliyshuwa3110 they are big hot water rubber hoses, you can wrap them in heat resistant fabric but I don't think that's necessary to be honest
I replaced mine with the same hose, then test drove it up to 75mph at WOT. It did not come loose like others claimed it could. If you use new (screw type) hose clamps, the correct hose too, and tighten them down properly (where you can see hose rubber slightly poking out of the clamp slots), it will last long. All my cars over the years get the same finesse with zero issues
hey man actually all u had to do is take the alenator off and you can reach all the way through and fix it i found this out because i had to replace the heat sensor under the intake i learned it from a guy on utube and very thankful i did .take a look if u take off tghe altenator u can stick u hand all the way to the back of the motor from the front of the intake lol hope this helps anyone out :)
Really difficult to get the alternator out from under the throttle body on an S197 - I've seen people trying on RUclips - maybe the 5.0 is easier but after several alternators over the years I just take the throttle body off to make life easier and clean it and the MAF while I'm at it
Thank you for posting this. I have that very issue right now and going to follow your advice. THANK YOU! This is EXTREMELY HELPFUL!
Thanks so much. Just finished your fix to my leak. I didn't take the intake completely off, took the intake bolts off, disconnected the drivers side injector wires, took the air inlet tube with the top of the air cleaner off, and moved the intake manifold to the drivers side. Didn't have to disconnect the fuel line. It was a muther to get the hose you recommended on. I would see if O'Reillys had another 90 degree hose that was just a bit larger inside diameter. I have a 05 GT but with a 09 GT motor. The intake manifold is easier to work with than the 05 manifold. BTW, the 05 motor ate a spark plug. Again thanks for the fix.
Glad it helped you brother.
Thanks for the video! I didn't know if I wanted to take the top stuff off, but it looks ok.
Needed that part number to make sure I don’t make a double trip 😂, thanks for the info !
I just discovered the exact same issue in my car today , I just need this hose part number , I've been adding water to my car every 2 days for like the past 2 months 😂, finally the issue showed up clearly and I can fix it easily
glad this helped my friend!
@@fernandomartin624 Very helpful Fernando , my car is as good as new , running for one week now , no issues or adding water or whatsoever,, thanks man 🤘👍
Hey man I think this is what’s happening to me because I don’t have a visible leak is that how you found out ?
@@josethesinner666 I had the exact same problem, I ended up topping my coolant with cheap one that has strong color and texture , and finally I got the color detected under the manifold , in your case do the same , and look for color spots with a flash light under the intake manifold, if it's the cause , it'll definitely show, if not , you'll find the color somewhere, radiator hoses , radiator sides , it has to show somewhere, keep observing
@@K.Balushi I found the leak as soon as I opened up the intake
Beautiful video thanks you just save my car I was wondering how to fix my car and this video resolved my problem on my car thanks again my friend 👍
Thank you so much! I am just having the same issue right now, with my Pony 2006.
I drive an '07 GT and under full acceleration (!!) thereby increased coolant flow/coolant thermal expansion, this Gates hose will be pushed off the metal inlet sleeve at the front of the intake valley. It happened to me and my temp gauge began to glow cherry red and scared the you know what out of me. This video is a great patch but please spring the extra 65$ for the factory correct heater hose. The factory correct hose will snap over and lock onto the metal inlet sleeve much like an a/c or pressurized fuel filter quick connect line.
I definitely agree spend the 65 and get original part with hose and pipe don’t be cheap and only spend 16 u Will regret it
I've never seen a video were people say torque specs the intake should be torqued to 89 in lbs in sequence
Thanks a lot for the video gonna change that piece on my car and save me 500
FYI - Ford dealer wanted to charge $700 to fix this on my 08 GT
Total abuse from dealerships, imagine if this was a mercedes...
At the end how do you know it is not leaking under the bottom you just crank the car up and never check the bottom to see if it's leaking again
How did you remove the other end of the hose
Thank you so much did this today saved me some money
Thank you for the information. I have the part and have the intake off but I had to go to work, will finish tomorrow. Is it still holding up, or any other info you can give me? thanks
So all that is needed is a 90 degree heater hose
very good! do you need to remove some coolant first ,so that when you cut the old hose , will coolent come out ?
hi! thank you for the video. Is this the same procedure for the V6 engine?
So how did this end up holding up? Having the same problem at the elbow. Coolant leaks out from the elbow within about 5 minutes or so of the car running. I’m breaking mine apart now. Just wondering if it helped?
So far 0 problems my friend. Haven't lost a drop of coolant
Do you know what the part number is?
Good man thx
Nice job! Thanks for sharing.
I’m sorry What is the inside diameter of the hose, disculpa cuál es la medida del diámetro de adentro de la manguera? It’s the upper or lower hose?
Do you know if the coolant that leaks into the motor steams after the cars been on for a while ?
Hi there, I'm going to replace that part on my vehicle soon as well and was wondering if you drained your coolant beforehand or if that's unnecessary? TIA
No, I didnt, I let it drip what it wanted and then just filled out what it lost. It did not lose that much to be honest. I dont think you have to drain it tbh. You can work on wet with that replacement
@@patan77 fantastic thank you
What size hose? For the 90° heater hose
Its a 5/8s heater hose. I got it at O'Reilly.
How fast did it leak? I have a 2010 4.6L and I'm having what I think is the same problem.
Started very slow and it increased over time. But I personally never let it empty the plastic reservoir, you can check probably same thing as the 10s still have this motor
So is it possible that this hose will leak with the car on or off? Mines is pouring water off whenever i put some in the coolant. It drips in between the trans and oil pan at the bottom.
WERE U LOSING COOLANT BEFORE U INSTALLED THAT NEW PIECE IN THE INTAKE MAINFOLD?
How were you able to see that it was leaking there? Mine is leaking as well towards back of engine, but im not sure where it can be leaking from
You can see coolant dried put leaking from the bottom of the clutch and the end of the block, and if you are able to put a strong light and look inside you could see the wetness or even liquid resting on the bottom under the spider.
Did you drain the coolant b4 installing?
@@Mikeisdelicious no, i didn't I just added some after finished installing everything.
@@patan77 okay when i popped the. Heater hose off it was leaking like crazy. So i popped it back in and just drained the whole thing. Besides having to put more fluid in it. Is there an additional down side with how i did it
@@Mikeisdelicious it will leak up to the level of the pipe unless you did it with the car on an incline? Also I did not pop the water cap open so it did not leaked that much in my case, but if you flushed the car cooling system is not unhealthy for the car either. I flushed it like 20k before I did the fix so I didnt flushed the whole system.
So was it leaking at back of motor because mines peeing back there
Do you have to drain the coolant first before doing this or no?
How's the hose going today? I'm gonna make a replacement on mine soon so I am deciding on just buying the elbow or just replacing the hose like you did.
I sold it finally and that fix never gave me any issues at all, the car itself honestly is a work horse indestructible I'm kinds regretting selling it... Sold with 229k miles and original clutch, it was a thing of beauty... The fix worked perfectly.
What is the part called
I'm do this on Thursday wish me luck
Good luck my friend make sure it's not too hot the motor when you do it.
Love how you don’t show how to take out the hard part that I’m struggling with
Which part? If u talking about the pipe from the metal I cut it with a knife but if osmering else let me know.
I’m having the same issue leaking coolant and overheating
Hi was it leaking under car
Mine is leaking...does the elbow part pop out so i can replace it? Not doing all this tho...just going move alternator out the way
I'd take the top out because you got to cut the rubber pipe off the metal pipe at the end of the block might be a bit harder to do from. The front. Either way the solution is cheaper than the dealer price
@@patan77 im saying mine is leaking at the black plastic elbow..i think its cracked...can i just replace the plastic elbow peice without messing with the other end of the hose towards the back
Hi will the hose size work for a v6
I dont know I never worked on a V6 but might be similar, probably there's a video about V6 around that shows the in between V
What did you use for the heat protection?
Prop cause it gets hot in there and he wants it to no decompose
@PATAN
I've never seen a video were people say torque specs the intake should be torqued to 89 in lbs in sequence
Should it be or not? They're plastic and prone to cracks
@@vapemcvaperson they most definitely should be torqued in sequence
@@enjoythesho1992 alright, thanks for responding - I'm afraid my intake may have a few fractures , I don't know.
89 seems like a lot but in sequence just like I used to do water pumps, valve covers etc most definitely, particularly with composite plastics with some miles on them - I get a misfire rapidly at take off occasionally - no check engine or codes - one I saw was left bank lean but nothing further
