Paul Ruebens hurt no one. He kept his private life private. He didn’t make an issue out of being in an adults only movie theater. Like everyone else he was entitled to a private life, but celebrity didn’t give him the right. He didn’t ask permission and he also didn’t ask forgiveness. I’d rather have someone accept their flaws and quirks than pretend they were above the blame.

He managed to do one of the funniest & most protracted "Looney Tunes" type death scenes in "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" I bought the DVD for that death scene alone. I never watched his show on Saturday mornings, but not because I didn't enjoy his work, I had to be in the shop by 7am & was never much for setting up to record. I enjoyed him in Cheech & Chong's movies, (which to me were kind of adult versions of a cartoon show anyway), and caught him here & there on the tube.
But as plenty of others have said on here, he never hurt anyone & he made kids happy, as far as I'm concerned, those are two of the biggest goals that one can aspire to. RIP Paul Reubens, a phenomenal guy!

It was vintage photos of minors in sex acts. Apparently child pornography is not new. Even in Art Deco there is a fine live between a seductive female wood nymph and a young child-like female wood nymph. An artist's depiction of an imaginary fairy creature of unknown age may not be illegal, but actual young children photographed partially clothed as seductive wood nymphs would definitely be illegal. It sounds like what Pee Wee had was beyond the ruling of being merely artistic.

Paul didn't just "promote" the movie Mystery Men, he acted in it as The Spleen, and was a key character. Also, the 911 in Reno 911 is pronounced "nine one one," not "nine hundred eleven."
Having said that, overall, this was a lovely retrospective, and I enjoyed it!

From Wiki: Reubens died on July 30, 2023, at the age of 70, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The immediate cause of death was acute hypoxic respiratory failure.[119][120] At the time of his death he was diagnosed with both myelogenous leukemia and metastatic lung cancer.[119] He had been diagnosed six years earlier, but had not revealed his diagnosis to the public.

Anyone who can get Cyndi Lauper to sing the theme song of your TV show only added to the many reasons I truly enjoyed watching Pee-Wee's Playhouse, AND his movies. I was sad when Phil Hartman passed away, too. He not only played Captain Carl on Pee-Wee's show, he voiced the characters Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure on The Simpsons.

As an adult I enjoyed Pee Wee's Playhouse very much. His use of double entendres for children and adults was hilarious. I remember one particular episode with Miss Yvonne and either the fireman or the policeman that had me laughing so hard I couldn't catch my breath. The movie where his bike was stolen was just as good. The above narration of his career seems unnecessarily vague about parts of his life. He was gifted with a unique comedic talent.

When "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" played at our local movie theater, I remember my boyfriend and I decided to see it because the title sounded intriguing. We had NO idea whatsoever what it was about, or what hilarity was in store for us. Throughout the movie, we laughed and kept asking each other, "What IS this?" It was pure delight. We particularly liked all the local Southern California settings the movie took place in. To this day, if either of us happens to be driving towards L.A. on I-5, when we get to the Calvine exit we glance over and think of the "Large Marge" truck driver scene that took place there. We had lots of conversations later about what exactly this character represented. I think he was an 8-year-old's vision of being a grown-up. Whenever I overhear some kid say, "I know you are, but what am I?", I think of Pee Wee.
