It's crazy that the myth of shaving making your hair thicker was even known back then & people had to be told it was a myth. We're in 2023 and people I meet on a daily basis still think shaving thickens hair
Yeah that’s crazy we still believe that today
It's because hair does initially look different after shaving, it appears darker and thicker until it grows out, but it's just an illusion.
Because it DOES, unless you have almost invisibile bionde hair! 🙄 Every DECENT beautician KNOWS that, because we SEE it daily
Its not a myth if you have pili multigemini. After shaving, the hair can grow back into two to three shafts from one follicle. Some men and women have it but its not common.

These videos are so addictive. I like seeing how people used to live during old times. One thing I really like is their faces looks so simple and beautiful. Their soft features are so attractive. I know they all are models and actors but still i could see really less makeup, no cosmetic surgery unlike nowadays.
Yeah people used to actually have to have natural good looking features on their faces lol. Buccal fat removal wasn’t a thing
@@daisiesx96 I lost my buccal fat unintentionally
And all are dressed. Literally dressed
They have mostly natural faces (not sugery altered) but didnt go overboard with makeup. People back then were afraid of looking like a sex worker until the revolutionary times in the 70s with disco and new rock. With hippy bands, glam rock and eventually punk styles in the 80s, people got more creative with makeup, hair and and nails.

“Wash your hair frequently.....once every two weeks”

Back then hair was set in styles so they wouldn’t wash their hair to keep their hair all dolled up.

@@shelbyw430 That's because your hair is so dry from being washed daily it's overproducing oils in attempt to rehydrate. You're actually making it worse.
Well that's normal for people with type 4 hair 🤷
I feel like it sets a really good point honestly. It’s not about how you look but rather how you present yourself. Having class and being hygienic makes anyone look beautiful without even focusing on individual physical traits.
But beauty is not the same for everyone, messy hair and grunge-y/messy clothing is so much more attractive than what ever tf the boring stuff in this video is

Cat Ears it’s true still to this day
Alaina Evans Right, people typically used bar soap or something on their hair, which would strip it so much that more frequent washing was a bad idea. Also they had boar bristle brushes, which were used to remove dust and dandruff, and to distribute any oil that did accumulate between washes.
There was less road traffic back then. Nowadays when you go out, your hair is attacked by all the air pollution and what not, and it gets dirty a lot quicker. She didn't have that.

"Your hair should be washed every two weeks or more often if necessary with water and a mild soap." - very interesting, I wonder when we developed the need to wash it daily and whether shampoos had anything to do with that. Also rinsing with a bit of vinegar in the water was practiced back then. I've actually been doing it for a few years now and I can't imagine my hair-washing routine without it!!

It's so hard to read AND put on your socks on the same day. The struggle is real.
I think the reason why they were able to wait so long is because they didnt use conditioner in the example. Conditioners sometimes also contain oils. But this video shows they would only use soap and astringents. and then they would do the whole "brush 100x a day" thing to distribute the natural oils to keep the hair conditioned.
If your hair 'squeaks' after washing, it means that you have stripped it of all its oils.
A conditioner is needed.
They used the hair’s natural oils to condition it, hence the brushing.

If you wash your hair, as we did back then, until it’s squeaky clean, it just means you’ve stripped all the natural oils from your hair. Not a great thing unless you follow with conditioner, which we didn’t since it hadn’t been invented yet. Hair would be frizzy and flyaway and led to lots of split ends! Prell was very popular and it was like Dawn dishsoap, very harsh on hair. That’s why we could wait a week or two between washings. Just saying.
