Finally CHANEL's new rendition of N°5 is out and a new flanker called N°5 L'EAU is born... This video is my first review of this newly launched CHANEL fragrance.

I bought L’eau today after trying it out on my skin the whole day and I was impressed as you with the change it did on my skin. The change from very citrusy fresh smell to a very cashmere like sent which was so more me and more sophisticated. So great review!!! Keep up your great vids

I love this perfume so much. It’s so warm and comforting and so light and clean I feel like I could wear this anywhere and anytime and whenever I smell it I get such a happy feeling

Fabulous Review!! I am a Chanel lover, my favorite House, bar none. But I didn't have this one so I just treated myself for this year's birthday. It should be here in a couple of days ... truly looking forward to it, thanks to your review. I a l m o s t chose Nº5 Eau Premiere. Think I'll be happy with this one as the Les Exclusifs are my favorite scents ever done. Nice to hear L'eau has that feel. :)
Hello Dacob. Your descriptions are like poetry. I could listen to you all day. I adore Number 5 and like many people it was my first Chanel fragrance. Over the years I have added other favourites but realise that you don't have to stay loyal to only one fragrance but can enjoy others depending on how you feel. I also love Allure however Coco will remain my true favourite. I tried L'eau today and found it so fresh and pure but with a gentle warmth too. It reminded me of sweet effervescent sherbet in some notes. I will absolutely add this to my collection. Helen.
Dear Helen, thank you so much :) Yes, we discover that we can travel to different places (try different perfumes) and then return back home to the safe warm fireplaces we know (N°5) whenever we feel like it and that is the magic of perfume! It awakens and amplifies the senses :) xoxo
Eau I'm trying this one tonight, and I have to say I'm loving it. I agree with you SuperDacob that the dry-down is really interesting... It reminds me of Bois des Iles, in character. I don't know why, but it does. I'm so happy that I tried this.

Dacob thanks for your amazing reviews. I love L'Eau too. This has a low frequency hum of the most refined musk in the drydown - beautiful. I love Eau Premiere -- I get the rosy jasmin powdery drydown from that one. And civet -- I always get that from No5 EDT. Love your reviews.

So nice how you review. I sprayed 2days before listen to you I kept sniffiing my hand. Addicted but friendly and comforting to me.
I love this in a rainy day. I know this is probably not the way Chanel intended for us to experience. For me I feel it brings out meditative and innate mindset + emotions. I also like that it’s so easy going too but it maintains a character and sophistication. Well done Chanel and to you for all these addicting videos ✨

This was the review I was waiting for. I tried this at Heathrow T5 on its launch day but did not buy as the Chanel boutique had the Les Exclusifs ETD's available in the 75ml and I felt I wanted to purchase two of those whilst they were still available. I hoping this will be available in duty free on my way back, finances willing. Thank you for your advice on how to spray this to obtain the best dry down. Your Chanel reviews are the best, they reveal your passion for the brand and I'm so pleased you are liking L'eau, I know you were sceptical. Nice that Chanel can still sneak up and suprise !!!!!

Yes, the Les Exclusifs EDT have priority for now.. at least until October, when they get officially discontinued... plus if you got Les Exclusifs at the airport you probabyl got them for tax free.. which would be even better ;) haha I was sceptical about L'EAU but I am pleasantly surprised. Its not a revolutionary fragrance by all means but its fun and fresh so I welcome it :) xoxo

The new no.5 always reminds me the soap smell I used when I was very little. I was into chance when I was in The university. But Now I am more coco and no.5 girl.

I adore my No.5 Parfum but after watching this video, I think I need this perfume in my life :)
L'EAU is fun and vibrant, especially in summer months but it is great I colder months too. It does not come close to the pure perfume but it is a good extra nuance to the tradition of N°5 :) xoxo
I loved this review Dacob. I was resistant to L'eau ever since it was released, until I decided to think of it as not "another version of No. 5" but as a perfume of its own. I just tried it for the first time and despite my aversion to love it, I am in love! At first it reminded me of a better, more elegantly crafted, elegant and smooth Hypnotic Poison (in the dry-down, but not the opening). But I've just realized something about the dry-down of L'eau! I recognize something in the dry-down which I smell in the dry-down of my bottle of Chanel No. 5 Eau de Cologne from the 1950s. If you have access to a 1950s bottle please tell me if you notice this! Once again, my favorite perfume reviewer, thank you so much for the way you interpret these scent landscapes and share them with us!

I love your perfume reviews! While watching this wonderful meditation on l"eau I had an idea - would it be interesting for you to dig into your perfume archives and pull out some of the older bottles you haven't worn so much recently and reassess, see how your feelings with them have changed and also do this in parallel with your memories of when you wore them before?

Totally agree! When I smelled this the first time I loved it! Better than I dare say Chanel N5 parfumerie original. When I think of the original I like it but it was older powder scent that you easily recognize but sophisticated and feminine. It definitely help me appreciate why Chanel n 5 original was so good for so many years. I think femininity has change there bit in L’eau. Femininity can be all the strengths of the original but much more underground. A little metallic and messy. That’s the L’eau for me. It grows more beautiful and because you find it’s far more complex in subtlety.

Could be interesting to layer them... but L'EAU is a bit too citrussy for the pure parfum... could turn sour or acidic if not dosed right... but you will see, once th epure parfum comes, it is so rich and textured... you will love it on its own! This has been my perfume since its release, and i agree with the atomizer! Hehe And I also agree that it doesn’t go cheap on you. So elegant.. and yes, it stays on me for about 8 hours. I love how you describe it. So accurate ❤

I have not purchased Boy yet,i am leaning towards this more,i love Cristalle Verte,and the freshness of this .
I just purchased my back stock of Gardenia and Beige ,(thank you for leaving me some Beige,i know how much you love it)as well as a few others...I will hope they make some nice sets for Christmas...I did like how long this lasted on me.

Actually I do not mind Beige at all but I never crave it and as of now it is the only Les Exclusifs I do not own (other than 4ml and 2ml samples)... I will get it eventually though but I still have some time since it will be available in EDT till March of next year (hopefully)..

L'eau is very light, I agree its very easy! Its a simple no 5! The pure parfum is still my favorite no. 5 ..I cant get enough of it, I wish it wasn't so expensive so I didnt have to feel crazy savoring every drop I have of it but my god its gorgeous!!!! L'eau is a nice little taste of no.5....I bought the 1.7 oz and Im excited to use it!!! I think it will be AMAZING for this spring/summer! I wonder if this is the last of the new 'versions' of no 5 they have been making. I thought it was supposed to end with "eau premiere" and I was super surprised they made another version of it again! Hmmm .....hehe
Me too! I prefer the pure parfum! Pure magic!!! They aproximately make a new flanker of N°5 every 8 to 10 years as to try to gain new generations of clients. So you can expect a new N°5 yet again in another 8 years or so ;) xoxo

L'EAU is a young N°5 baby and needs some attention... it is not by any means groundbreaking but it has an edge in there somewhere and at least on my skin lasts a fairly long time... longer than BOY... besides... it would have been perfect and "BOY N°5" ;) xoxo
I am testing this fragrance from a sample for the first time today, so I had to revisit your review. L'eau is absolutely lovely! I agree that the citrus comes back around during the dry down. My skin chemistry just does not mesh with any other formulation, the Chanel no 5 edt being the worst of the bunch. I believe I have finally found my version that works for me. Heavenly!!!

I will pick this one up next month when I will have 2 Sephora gift cards, and the 100 ml will cost next to nothing that way. My version of not paying full price for luxury goods. Lol. Although, perfume to me is a necessity and not a luxury. I also don't trust picking this one up on the secondary market. Xoxo

Dacob I adore you and your reviews LOL You are so good at this! I can't wait to try L'eau it sounds wonderful! I am just wondering but how do you feel about non-designer fragrances? Like the kind you can get from drugstores. You seem to be really into the high end kind and Im just wondering about your thoughts on using those from the lower end of the spectrum. I LOVE chanel n.5 perfume and I wonder if its odd that I seem to wear my most expensive no 5 parfum or my extremely inexpensive britney spears fragrances (i love them they just do so well on me and dont make me feel sick Lol). Have there ever been any drugstore fragrances that you like? Well I hope you have an awesome day!! Fall is getting closer and closer, it is my absolute favorite season!! LOL
Dear Trina, thank you :) That is a good question. I am very susceptible to ingredient quality when it comes to smells and as much as I like some drugstore perfumes I just cannot wear them... latest in the dry down they turn to chaos on my skin and almost all lack the harmony that higher end fragrances deliver... I have used perfumes for so many years now that my nose is like a palate of a wine taster.. I can point out immediately if there is something off in the composition and it drives me crazy so I do not wear those scents any more... but I love the packaging and marketing strategies for many of them :) xoxo
OH yes I can totally understand that!! There are a few 'notes' that I avoid at all costs because they give me awful headaches (the green apple note is the worst!) and it definitely differs between quality of ingredients for sure! There does seem to be more harmony in the higher end frags, most definitely because they do use better quality oils than the less expensive brands (at least I hope so...otherwise what are you paying so much for!! haha) so I definitely understand where you are coming from :)

Before the reformulation every single Chanel fragrance gave me a splitting headache.
I'm still not a fan of the original #5, but I'm obsessed with L' EAU!!
I'm trying a sample of this one today. And I completely agree with your review. I particularly like the description of the rose because I know Chanel 5 really well myself and yes the Rose is passive and it's so gorgeous. Like you said in your review the Rose is soft and so addictive but also I agree with you the ylang-ylang is just so addictive. This is what takes the perfume and this new version to the next level it's gorgeous it's woodsy and a bit dry and a perfect segue into the dry down. I do think that some of the l'exclusifs magic is in this because it does remind me a lot of 1932. Even though 1932 one is mainly just Jasmine for me. I do feel that it's a cousin to 5 and in that way similar to L'eau
Dear Ruby! Such a wonderful comment! I agree with you completely! I just do not understand the last part of your comment... Did you mean N°5 premiere or L'EAU in your last sentence? It is like 1932 in a way... for sure! But that passive rose CHANEL so masterfully does.... ugh!! Nobody matches that rose! I think the perfumeurs at CHANEL understood what nobody else understood: that is that it is close to impossible to recreate a rose scent one to one like in nature. Rose fragrances always tend to smell cheap or artificial in a way... (example Louis Vuittons exclusive Rose des Vents... geepers creepers... plastic caramel fudge oily rose)... CHANEL knows that a mini hint of rose goes n extremly long way ;) thats what makes that "passive" rose a queen ;) xoxo

I meant 1932 seems like the cousin to both 5 and the L'eau. The L'eau has hints of an l'exclusif in it for sure. The L'eau sparkles to me specifically in the beginning, like 1932. and 1932 plays with jasmine and the drydown beautifully which give me hints of 5.
Ah, now I get it! So true! The sparkle in L'EAU's opening is so Les Exclusifs! Its delicious! One of CHANEL's best aldehyde openings from their regular line since a long time! I just love it so much and I used up more than half my 100ml bottle already in less than a month and a half ;) xoxo
About the..'silence'.. ! ....what an incredible depth of your review.... You are so sensitive!! By the way on my skin l'eau lasts 12 hours and becomes stronger step by step till the end. Really interesting. I completely fell in love and Must buy it!!!

Hi Dacob, I got the chance to spritz N5 L'eau on me the other day and liked it. Just to give you a little more history I own other Chanel fragrances as well like Les Eaux De Chanel Paris Deauville and Venise, Bleu De Chanel and Chance eau fraiche all in a 100 ml (3.4 fl oz. +) bottles. Now since I really want to own a No 5 I was just wondering which is a safer buy? A 50 ml or a 100ml? Based on its price and worth. Considering I'm not too sure if I'm going to love it in the long run? And since it's on the pricier side, I just dont want to spend a lot of money and buy the 100 ml and not use it as often as I would like to or buy the 50ml, love it and use it up in an instant. Any tip would help out a lot. Thanks!
You could purchase the 35ml to be safe. Its a decent amount of perfume to use up and see if it is something you would like to have for th elong run ;) xoxo
I'm curious as to how you got a bottle! Here in the states we aren't even allowed to sell in until the 29th of this month. I've used it for about a week now, I wasn't too keen on it at first. I just thought it was okay. But the more I wore it the more I liked it. I don't like to mist it on even though it's nice to spray with the new aspirator. I actually prefer to spray or very close to the skin until it almost drips.
Hi David, this fragrance had its official release on September 1st in most parts of the world so thats how I got it... It did grow on me as well.. its by far not my favourite N°5 flanker but its a nice addition to the family and I will happily use it from time to time. I too prefer to spray it super close to the skin. I get much better dry down results with it that way.
God, I 100% follow you with the Les Exclusifs-type dry down! It's absolutely sublime.
Also: have you ever smelt Midnight in Paris by Van Cleef & Arpels? It's this (sadly discontinued) very popular and cheap fragrance that evokes such beautiful things it could almost be a Chanel. The smell itself isn't something Chanel would do but the whole scenery surrounding this scent definitely is!
PS: REALLY curious about what you think of the brand new boutique exclusive perfume line Louis Vuitton does now!

Hey! Ok, I just sprayed N5 EDP and fallowed with N5 L’eau right after ( it had to be done lol) ... the concoction just vanished on me . It literally smells as if I sprayed some generic fragrance hours ago and Im now left with a very basic , barely there,dry down . So sad ... yet interesting! They cancel each other out . The mysteries of Chanel lol. Have you had any experience with this combo? Love x

Do you find its gets quite sweet in the dry down? To my nose it smells the same as the n.5 EDT but without that sharp bite, I quite liked that, but found it very sweet in the dry down, bit sugary if i exaggerate it a little. It put me off however now that im thinking about it... Im undecided. What sold me was the 'it never goes cheap on you' and in my mind sweetness can be a bit cheap-y , perhaps is the omnipresence of Vanilla in perfumes that gives me that impression?
It has a bit of sweetness like ti had sandalwood in it :)
Oo nice I need to go give it a sniff! I just got gardenia (I know, not your favorite, but it's been on my list so long!) and I do love the scent- I find it doesn't last long on me at all.. But I really have that problem with most fragrances- I don't smell them anymore very quickly. Do you think it's just me, my body chemistry?! I would love to smell like my gorgeous perfumes all day long (like I notice some people do) but they never ever last on me! Am I doing something wrong, I wonder? Not putting enough? Or wrong place ? I dunno.. Anyway, enough tangent lol I will add

Thank you :) Gardenia might not be my favourite but I love it a lot. It doesn't like me ;) haha... but I love it. When our bodies get used to a fragrance we don't smell it any more so much on ourselves but the others around us still smell it on us. Its the downside of having just one fragrance and using it all the time. One needs to rotate all the time if one wants to smell the fragrance longer on ones skin.. I try to rotate every day or every second to third day... but then again I refresh during the day and I might use up to four different fragrances throughout the day... I love to switch it up and mix the moods all the time. That way I smell out the scents better and I keep my body guessing ;) xoxo

I whole heartedly recommend N°18... it is a treasure! At the moment my most favourite Les Exclusifs fragrance ! Just magical! So underrated.. Longevity is for hours and the transformation from opening to closing just wonderful... I long it every time I am out and about and do not have it on... crazy... but true... xoxo
I can't believe you wear perfume and don't know, haven't even comprehended, that ALL OF US GET USED TO SCENTS that we constantly smell, like our own body odors or the odors of soaps, shampoos, and fragrances one might use often.
Which, sadly, means you're likely one of those people who are using WAY WAY WAY too much so you can continuously smell it yourself, and the people around you are all disgusted and annoyed. I hope not, but you really should realize you're not going to be able to smell the fragrance you're wearing all day long, and applying a small amount once per day is PLENTY. Otherwise you're one of those people stinking up a whole room because you've dumped half the bottle on yourself 6 times a day expecting to smell it yourself the whole time... and instead, people are covering their noses and running, fearing your horrendously strong and annoying scent.
Sorry to be so blunt, but most of the people around you are going to just deal with it, not say anything, and distance themselves so they don't literally taste your smelly chemical concoction.

Interesting...I use Chanel Bleu parfum also, Guerlain L'Instant parfum but not sure If I would get away with wearing Chanel No5.

I like L'eau on my sons but they are way too little (toddler and 7)....on me i have to layer with parfum no5 otherwise feels too empty.
So I wanna buy my mom a bottle of n°5 for her birthday because she says that she likes number 5 and owned it once but that was before they released the l'eau (which is the newer Version right (?)) so now I'm wondering if I should get her the new version, how much did it change? Do you think she will still like the new one?
Hi There I have no clue how your mom likes her perfumes to smell. Selecting fragrances is a very delicate process and the only way to be sure a person will like them is if the person actually tries them on. Skin chemistry plays a vital role here. In general, I would go with the concentration that she loved in the first place... If she loved the eau de toilette then I would buy that one again... or if she loved the eau de parfum then I would get her that... this way you are definitey on the safe side. The new version of N°5 is different enough to its predecessors to warrant a possible dislike as well so it is tricky given that this scent is alos not the cheapest... xoxo
