      HI Leslie 😍💐 thank YOUUUU!!! 🤣🤣 I am so glad that you enjoyed that 😂 and thank you so much for letting me know, because, you know what? Spur of the moment, at the time I do it, it seems like a good idea. Then when I get to editing, I feel as though 'that is so dumb!' and am embarrassed to even edit and just go with what I initially had set out to do! So, the editing part is when I have regrets sometimes, but here you are... it was intended to be fun and thank you for letting me know. I feel a lot better now... a little embarrassed but smiling about it, because of your comment! MUCH appreciated 😆😅 thank you so much for watching! I appreciate that very much and your kind feedback ...phew! 😬😅 wishing you a wonderful day 🫶🏼🌸

      HI Cheryl 😍💐 good to see you! I hope you are doing well 🫶🏼 its fun doing this and I can report that this Berry 'Oda' Class of 2023 keikis rooted in beautifully and are now living la vida in bella Italia 😅 and, it was not done with this batch, I have another 4 that I should have removed months ago, but didn't get around to. I wish it would have focussed a little more on growing new growths, but, typical for the orchid hobby, we can't have it all 😊 thank you so much for watching, Cheryl! 😍 Mona! 💐 Dendrobium Berry Mona!!! I LOVE THAT 🙌🏼😍🥳👍🏼 woohoo!! I am happy to hear that, because I am anxious to see when mine is going to get some new growths, because I am concerned about it's welfare. A great way to grow this orchid is mounted on a rock. Love that! I should have thought of that when I got mine 👍🏼 I hope that me bursting into song, every once in a while, is not a turn off. I am just inspired sometimes, to do what comes into my head. Then, of course, there are regrets after some time 😂 thank you so much for your concern about my situation. Yes, I finally got water back yesterday evening. Amazing how conditions make orchids perform differently. I haven't had one single keiki from mine in years. They look so cute. I had 2 keikis on the cooksonianum and I already mounted them on the tree and they seem to love it. And my kingianum has a spike 😮 Can you beleive these crazy plants? I haven't grown Dendrobiums in quite some time. There are a few mini ones I've looked at, but hear they can be temperamental... I'm moody enough as it is, not sure if I want to spend the money and have them croak!! 🐸 😂😂 I still haven't gotten around to ordering the tillandsias for the fountain yet, funds are tight right now. Plus it's been so hot, not the best time to ship plants here. 🥀 It's really terrible with the fires in Hawaii, it reminds me of the town here that burned down completely a few yrs ago, it was the Camp Fire and the town was Paradise...it was too, very beautiful up there...I just hope no more lives are lost in Hawaii and they're able to get a handle on it soon. 😓
    Enjoyed the Twisting lesson, if I try to twist myself...😏 I'd probably throw my back out even more!!! 🌪️😅😅 Catch later Nina..take care. 🦋

      🦋🦇😍 if you are thinking along the lines of cuthbertsonii, yes... beautiful, but annoying if they get too warm and don't have enough humidity. Add too much humidity and then they rot out, need airflow ... that is the only mini that I can think of which could be 'temperamental' *cough! PC here, it is YT after all. My judgement of them would include something to do with the derriere! I have seen footage of the Hawaii catastrophe! Wow and I remember Paradise from back when that happened as well. Water and fire, they will quickly tell us that we are meaningless in the grand scheme of things. So very very sad 🙏🏼 thank you for participating in the twisting sesh! I think I have twisted myself out yesterday and with that I am paying the price today. Can't sit, can't walk, floating is not an option... ridiculous! But, it is sunny outside and 86% humidity which is insane for this time of year! I had the wind pick up this morning, and though it was going to be one of 'those days' but nope, the cicadas are singing their song and it is my favorite sound EVER!! If they feel the need to fan themselves, that means... warm temps! Not hot, but warm 🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🙌🏼 thank you for all you do, Wingman 🫶🏼❤️🌸

      Hi Nina, ik heb al 7 grote potten Berry Oda’s, aan keiki’s geen gebrek, ze groeien als kool maar ik krijg ze niet in bloei…… Ik weet dat ze een koude periode nodig hebben om te bloeien maar hoe doe je dat in Spanje? Lieve groetjes uit België

      Hoi Hermine 😍💐 Nou, op een dag zal ik zeker mijn terras vol hebben, net als jij 😅 Tenzij iemand ze wil hebben en in de EU woont, kunnen ze elk eigen risico hebben! My Berry Oda leeft het hele jaar buiten en is 's nachts in koude omstandigheden tot 5ºC, met op sommige dagen slechts 14ºC overdag en deze omstandigheden duren van januari tot maart. November en december zijn wat milder, en tegen april begint het zelfs een beetje mooier te worden. In de winter staat de orchidee de hele dag in de volle winterzon, als de zon schijnt. Misschien heeft die van jou meer licht nodig tijdens de wintermaanden? Ik hoop dat mijn antwoord je helpt, Hermine. Als je nog vragen hebt, stel ze gerust! Heel erg bedankt voor het kijken, ik hoop dat je een geweldige dag hebt gehad 🫶🏼❤️🌸

      @@NinjaOrchids Goedemorgen Nina, dat is hier het probleem, bij ons kan het vriezen tussen november en april en moet ik ze binnen zetten , kan ze enkel in de slaapkamer zetten en daar blijft het 20 graden ook zonder verwarming door super isolatie, misschien moet ik ze buiten laten en hopen dat ze niet bevriezen…..Dank voor je goede raad en het was weer een genoegen om naar je te kijken! Have a nice day🫶💐🌻🥀💮🪻🪷

      @NinjaOrchids  Год назад +3

      Heeft u een garage met een raam? Dat zou ook werken! Ja, ik mis de isolatie in Duitsland ook wel. Het was niet echt nodig om andere kamers te verwarmen, omdat de restwarmte van de woonkamer voor het huis zou zorgen en met zo'n geweldige isolatie had ik het nooit koud. Hier, in de winter, heb ik echt last! Ik hoop dat je een garage hebt. Als je geen raam in de garage hebt, dan zal een LED-lamp alleen voor de orchidee 8 uur per dag voldoende zijn, hetzelfde geldt voor als je een kelder zonder ramen hebt! 🫶🏼

    Berry 'Oda' and Jonathan's Glory (the closest thing to Berry here) are not shy about blooming AND producing keikis, that is for sure, although Berry does bloom a little more prolifically. If something happens to the mother, you have backup at least.
    So I guess I'm an a-hole neighbor now. They are pulling off the roof next door and HOA rules don't allow construction after 5. I let them work past that so they could get some work done while it isn't blistering hot. I kindly asked them to stop at 7, they didn't. I called security, security called their company and told them they need to pack it up. They didn't. At 8 I called the HOA president, she came over with security and they spent 40 minutes trying to get them to leave. On top of that, they have been using my oak tree as a urinal. I complained to their site supervisor three times, it didn't make any difference. I had planted an Alocasia Jacklyn under the tree, they crushed it. The only way for me to get another is to import it from Thailand again. It isn't the $65 it will cost that bothers me, it is the principal of the thing. They aren't working on my property, they have no business being on my property and it is beyond disrespectful to continue to use my yard as their toilet.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  Год назад +2

      Don Miguel 🥰💐 hola jefe! Yep, there's that! She is clearly dealing with something that I cannot see. There is no bad smell coming out of her pot, so there is nothing wrong with the roots, also, she is handling the sun so much better than she did in previous years, during which I would move her to the east side to be in the shade. The anthocyanin is well balanced, so... something is going on. The dividing was 2 years ago, keikis this year is out of the norm. But, I am not complaining 😬 now... the fiasco you described is a disgrace! I will admit that in my current frame of mind, if that were happening to me, I would loose the plot to such a degree, I would be charged! I am disgusted in so many ways, for so many reasons and none of them are good! Just reading your comment has me red hot furious and wow, I don't know how you could keep it together! Or didn't you? What a nightmare! When I was in the US, it did always strike me as odd that the front of the properties were not fenced off. The yards were wide open for anyone to walk on, willy nilly! That is not the case in Europe. For me it always felt like security risk, for one to have just the back yard fenced in, but what do I know. Still... here you are with a classic example, with a reason that I would think front yards should also be fenced in. The weirdest thing ever, for me, to have everything open like that. I wonder if HAO will blacklist that company from working on the homes under their jurisdiction ever again. Will you be compensated in any way? Are you looking into that? Even though you don't have the cost of your plant as the gripe, it IS the principle!! First of all, urinating in public is an offence, then there is the destruction of private property and if I were to dig any deeper, I would find more offences that are, while a misdemeanour, they are offence that can be charged! I am so sorry about this... I am furious on your behalf. I would have gone absolutely mental!! 🤬 thank you so much for watching, Michael! I hope that your day today, starts out better than it ended 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    THANK YOU for an additional orchid I didn't want to have. But seriously, my Den. nobile (coocksonianum look-a-like) got a huge keiki last year. I mean it is really big and somehow it kept the whole plant in balance, very praktisch. Another new cane last year, this year too, both taller as the old canes, only no rebloom. This year the keiki got a keiki as tall as the old keiki but... the plant was still in balance. Which is not the case anymore. Removed the keiki-keiki and the Mama-plant lost its balance and..... well, found a place for the double keiki and Mama got repotted. Many regards 😘

Goodness me, it felt fun and right at the time I was setting up... spur of the moment, and I went with it, but when it came to editing 🤪😅 I was so embarrassed I thought, what were you thinking? 🤣🤣 but, here you are and well, I appreciate that you left a kind comment and are still here 🙏🏼😅 I bundle them up like that so that I can stake them up together, secure them better and avoid as much wobbling around in the pot while the roots need to start to do their thing. The fact that my ava rock tumbled on to them all in one go, was not a good thing, but if I were to spread them out, I would need more supports, more messing around with their positioning, more jiggling their root tips. Keeping them nice and together like that makes handling them easier and protects the roots from too much interference! Very informative video Nina! I always appreciate being able to watch others handle this part of orchid care so I can approach the task with a little more confidence. What fun! I would have danced if I hadn't just gotten home from work. Lol Perfect timing discussing Den. keikis becaaause... I had a question about a few of my Dens that are keiki machines. Will taking off keikis encourage new growths? These Dens are recent imports from South America so I'm sure they are still acclimating to my northern hemisphere but I have been wondering about this. I will probably get the keikis started then gift them to someone. Have a beautiful day Nina! 🙏😘🤗❤
    Edit: I watched your C. aclandiae repot video from a year ago, but can't find an update for it. Do you have one or care to speak of how it's doing? I have one now too and need to repot yesterday. I'm waffling with what to pot it in, though steering away from straight pumice. I have lava rock and can use 'some' larger pieces of pumice. I don't know what to use. 😰 Can you help me figure this out? Thank you for whatever you can offer. 🙏❤

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  Год назад +5

      HI Robi 😍💐 it is good to see you! 😃😆 so kind of you to take the intro for what it was meant to be... fun!! 😘 the purpose of repeating these videos is to transmit confidence for anyone who is hesitant, so.... I consider that mission accomplished! 👍🏼 thank you for letting me know, feedback like that is so appreciated 🫶🏼 In general, removing keikis does not encourage new growths. You can leave them on. The mother plant will grow new growths IF she is able to. Keikis only strip the mother plant of energy if you see the canes of the mother plant start to shrivel. That would point to the mother plant not having a good root system to support anything, not even herself. If your keikis are mature enough, go ahead and take them off. However, if you feel they need a little more time, and the canes on the mother plant are nice and plump, then leave them on. IF the mother plant grows new growths after you have removed the keikis, that would be a coincidence. The Berry Oda here, grows new growths while at the same time the keikis are developing. So, if that is because it is a hybrid, then my species aphyllum grows new growths with keikis attached. I hope that makes sense. The good thing is, you have time to remove your keikis IF you need it, AND if the mother plant is not showing signs of shrivelling canes 👍🏼 hope you and your orchids, family and fur family are settling in nicely! Thank you so much for watching 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Hi Nina, this video came at the right time for me. I have a Dendrobium Enobi Purple 'Splash'(Enobi Komachi x Laguna Princess) who has given me a Keiki on an old bare cane. The Keiki has lots of roots, no leaves, but an 8 bud flower spike. All of the buds except one are now open. I was going to remove it after the blooms go over and pot it in Pon in self watering. I am just not sure if it's actually a new plant or just a flower spike. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thank you so much for these informative and entertaining videos!!

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  Год назад +3

      HI Wanda 😍💐 I have had my dendrobium Berry Oda do that for me as well, several times. Those spike keiki hybrids have not worked out for me. Now, I have tried getting them to grow after removing them and seeing if the base will activate, as well as leaving them on the mother plant, to see if the base will activate. None of the 2 methods were successful. So, my best advice is, keep it on the mother plant, the spike keiki hybrid has nothing to photosynthesise with to get it's own source of energy once off the mother plant. While attached, it will draw energy from the mother plant and could stand a much higher chance of possibly activating something at the base. It is the strangest thing ever, but mine fizzled out in both scenarios. I do not have your hybrid though, so your's may respond differently. However, taking it off the mother plant with nothing to work with other than roots, I doubt the base will activate. My suggestion is leave it attached and see what happens. And, please, keep me posted on what you decide to do as well as how things progress 🙏🏼 I am curious to know other opinions!! Thank you so much for watching, Wanda! I hope that you are doing well and had a wonderful day 🫶🏼❤️🌸

So I think maybe I will get some keikis and make one. And are some kinds of dendrobiums better than others for this kind of project? Like, do they need to be a kind that grow longer canes?

      Hi 😍💐 For the most part they do need longer canes to have the keiki characteristics, but for me, Dendrobium Hibiki is the prettiest den when it comes to prolific bloomer in a compact orchid that fits all spaces, along with ease of care and the bloom duration... insane, easily 4 months! Easily! They also produce keikis, but mine has not done that in many years now. So once they settle in, their keikis become non existent. The other orchid that is the prettiest, imo, but with such a short bloom duration is the dendrobium aphyllum! No matter if it is new or established, part of it's characteristics is the keiki production. I love it! Sadly, the blooms only last 2 weeks and being able to enjoy them is really 'stressful' because you don't want to go to sleep seeing as they will be gone 'soon' 😅 she is a large pendant growing orchid that has a winter rest. I have both and if you would like more information, I can point you to videos about them 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching! I appreciate your support so much 🫶🏼❤️🌸
