Extreme Kitchen Makeover

  • When I started making over the kitchen of my West Palm Beach condo, 7 years ago, I had zero tools, zero DIY skills and minimal (very minimal) design skills.
    I certainly wasn’t able to create a space that suited me or that was cohesive with the rest of my home. I went from builder grade to dollar store, to boho, to (I’ll be generous) “eclectic” and then finally British countryside which was a bit closer to where this kitchen is today.
    I went from British countryside on a budget to transitional to feeling confident enough to add a little romance and whimsy. I still have a few plans for the space to really be “finished” but I hope you enjoy watching the transformation of this condo galley kitchen.
    This kitchen is proof you can do a lot with a small space and minimal skills.
    Don’t forget to leave a comment,
    Enjoy!

    Love seeing all the changes!! Ive gone through a similar gauntlet - painted cabinets blue, sage green, and now off-white (and now i want to rip everything out and start again lol!)
    Love seeing the process

    What I love the most about this video is that you kept trying! I know people whose home look exactly the same as when they move in years ago. When we moved into our home 13 years ago, Farmhouse was the rage and so Farmhouse it was. I quickly grew tired of word signs the most and so I pared it back first. Like you, the more I learned, the more my style evolved. I am shocked that after trying on all of the different trends through the years, I found that what I love the most is a beautiful, collected traditional style. They do say that we carry a lot of our parents inside of us, just waiting to come out!

      @bearteastudios  Месяц назад +1

      @@glendashine9468 Thank you! It did have a lot to do with money but that ended up being a good thing. If I had had more money when we first moved in I may have spent more money on design style’s I really didn’t like or were passing trends.
      Since money constraints forced me to take my time and be more creative with my decision I was able to find out a lot of what I didn’t like and that helped me sort out what I do like.
      Whats funny is that my studio apt in my 20s was very traditional with different pieces from thrift stores and I have ended up coming back full circle to that as well. So maybe you’re right. ☺️

    • @bearteastudios
      @bearteastudios  Месяц назад

      @@kathleenwilliams1988 Yes, but specifically bc of having no vent and a chandelier in the kitchen. I’m not sure if it would be better with a vent but the chandelier crystals get coughed in a light film of basically grease and dust and it’s super annoying to clean. Even if you don’t have a chandelier I would imagine that accumulates around the kitchen due to no fan even if we can’t see it. The kitchen is easier to clean than a chandelier though.
      I would recommend checking out Amazon they have some really modern sleek looking vents now. Some of them look like jeep grills. I will probably upgrade to one of those in the future.

      Making your bed and cleaning your room does wonders even if you’re just going to crawl back into bed. I do realize that’s easier said than done.
      Crippling depression is being so stuck in your head you stop being able to make your body move. If you make your body move though, it’s easier to silence your thoughts.

    The aftermath looks cheaper as if poor people added whatever they have found on the side of the road and just said "yes". The original kitchen was nicer, plenty of cupboard storage, it was complete.

    • @bearteastudios
      @bearteastudios  28 дней назад +1

      @@honestcomments6060 I disagree with the idea that because there is more of something, in this case particle board and vinyl cupboards, that that is somehow “better.”
      You can fill a mansion with cheap materials, those materials are still “cheap” and they prove to be so. The vinyl was peeling and stained from use.
      I brought brass accents, paneling, real wood, I replaced the stark, recessed, florescent lighting with a beautiful chandelier. I turned wire shelving into an entire butlers pantry. Meaning I created more hidden storage space than I had before. I also have two pantries.
      By removing the upper cabinets I opened up the space and lost nothing accept unused space and cheap cupboards.
      You’re definitely entitled to your opinion but I’m also entitled to tell you that if you think “more cheap stuff is better” than minimal thoughtfully chosen materials then, I’m sorry to be the one to tell you, (not that sorry) but you just have bad taste. 😉

      @@bearteastudios, I have a bad taste? Traditional is bad?
      It is not my fault that you are brainwashed and you are jumping on the bandwagon of the "minimal", "eclectic" style.
      I am guessing you are coming from a broken home, usually, those people have a broken sense of what is nice and good.
      Enjoy your homeless shelter.
