Surprised to agree. Love the iPad, but the surface is now what pro users have been crying out for the iPad to be, with a full featured OS, desktop apps etc.
If you live in a Windows world, completely. While the Surface is a pretty big compromise when compared to an iPad in terms of weight, Windows just not being a tablet friendly OS, awful pen etc:- With a ReMarkable you take 2 of those away. If you live in the Apple Ecosystem, the Surface is a terrible choice. While the Surface has benefited greatly from the new Snapdragon Xtreme chips, it’s still a poor tablet but now a reasonable laptop. Still a compromise device.
@@NeilLavitt If we could just get the prefect device is APPLE would open up the OS - grrrr thanks for the comment they all have their issues. Apple has the hardware. They will just never open up the iPad its a shame very capable.
Hi, nice to meet you. Question for you, about your opinion. Which device do you choose for reading e-books (epub) and pdf document and also, for taking some notes (when you're going to some appointment or conference) and taking notes on the ebooks? Thanks so much
Books are tough, where are you getting them? If you are working on e-books as long as you can import them any device will work, but reMarkables are truly designed as a paper replacement not a reader. That is where this can get tough - you may go with a BOOX device but there is a lot going on there. Just be prepared for a steep learning curve. Once you have a BOOX set up they are pretty good, but can be annoying with all the applications etc.. some people love them others hate them.
I have an iPad and Boox Note Air 3C. I travel, speak, do music professionally, use the google suite frequently (docs/sheets/drive), and love reading books/comics/manga, and wanted a device that also felt great for taking notes. Loved the idea of the Remarkable (design language, company direction, etc.) but I felt it was too limiting and didn't love needing a $3 a month subscription on top of the hefty price tags for the premium accessories. Being able to directly access/edit my speeches from google docs, have bluetooth for any keyboard, read from any reader app (kindle, Libby, Shonen Jump, etc), and have a color display for highlighting in my kindle books, easily viewing my different colored highlights for my speeches, and enjoying color for my books and comics has been amazing! I use my iPad for a second screen for my laptop, for light graphic edits, and video consumption, but I love my Boox for almost everything else! :)
I use the Samsung Tab 8+ with keyboard. RM2 with type folio for undistracted typing. Planning to replace my 4 year old RM2 with the paper pro here soon for most meeting notes. I've been carrying 2 RM 2s for a year now and love it.
HAHA I guess that is why I have been coaching for 20 years and have a great business HEHEHE we have an awesome community and I truly appreciate the comment - more coming :) You made my day!
Good analysis. My current stack is the Huawei MatePad Pro 13.2 and the soon to arrive reMarkable Paper Pro. My first e-ink device was the tab Ultra then I sold that and replaced it with the tab ultra c, I wasn't really sure what I wanted the device to do and it seemed that boox wasn't sure which direction the device should go, it wanted to do everything, all at once. But since I have ordered the Paper Pro and sold my ultra c and whilst I wait for delivery, I have finally decided what I want the device to do, I had an epiphany. Pre-covid I used to use my leather A5 Malden Filofax in every single meeting or coffee shop or bar that I visited, it was my planner, my journal, my everything. I would have been completely lost without it. Pages would often get photocopied and handed out to colleagues by way of meeting minutes distribution. But since covid I haven't replaced the pages and it sits in the cupboard, and that is precisely where the Paper Pro comes in, to be my go-to Filofax. For years I have avoided the outlook interface as I still miss the lotus journal that had the Filofax style. I want to be able to keep up with my schedule, file my notes, have them to hand, cross them over to the reMarkable storage and then store them on my own NAS. Colour will be a boon in almost A4 sized PDF technical manuals and as long as one has a purpose defined, then the device shall be precisely what one wants. Very soon I shall have the electronic Filofax that I had always dreamed of. As for limitations? For this instance there are none, it should serve what it has been purchased for, and for that reason I am going to love it
Thanks!! Appreciate the comments! I think you will love the Paper Pro - we are designing a planner for it in 2025 so far it is looking great - few more changes and I will have a single sheet ready - keep me posted.
I appreciate your comment on the different tablets. Having a RM 2 and looking forward receiving my RM Paper Pro, I am still not sure about the advantages. I do favor the option of colored pages on my RM but use my RM 2 mostly for note taking and reading... may just because of the lacking colors at the RM 2? I'll wait and see.
Just make sure to give it a few days, it can feel like a "let down" then it just starts to work. In my opinion I needed a few days, now I love the thing.
That is a great suggestion if you like the Matte look for sure. I use my iPad for media consumption so don't like that look, but have used them over the years. They do get better. SO IF I could only have 1 device - it would be an iPad with a Paperlike :)
@@morningcoach Thanks, it not just the look but feel in writing mostly and protection - I have scratched my screen before, a protector that help the feel surprised me - the appearance is a minor change for myself ? But I do like the battery life of Paperlike and have not been tempted enough to pull the trigger yet. IPAD Pro has been my go to device for some time, less to carry. Retired now and have different needs.
very new to e-ink devices. Torn between reMarkable Paper Pro vs. Onyx Boox Note Air 3 C. I am all in the Apple ecosystem. I want something that I can use to take note and preferably be able to edit MS document. I am hearing that all remarkable notes are PDF that can't be easily edited. Thank you!
Yes I think if you are trying to work outside the rM system. Then you are going to need to go BOOX. They (rM) are truly just designed to replace paper only. Limited but great at what they do. BOOX is probably your answer if you can deal with the learning curve. Not sure about the color on the Note Air don't have that model but not a fan of the color screens right now. Just me others are ok with it! :)
@@morningcoach Thank you for the quick reply. rM has an Apple-esque approach of locking things down but focus on quality and stability. I love their interface and focus on notetaking. Boox seems like the right choice, but reviews of their customer service and product seem mediocre. I might try both :-) Great channel and customer service!
Yes big differences, iPad is going to be a do all, because of the applications. Depending on the books and where they are from, it could be an issue on the rM - it is just a paper replacement, so you can't put Kindle books, etc. You can put pdfs but if you are doing a lot with books you may stick with the iPad or look at the Boox or Kindle scribe because you can put Kindle etc.. on them
This was very helpful! I personally have switched from iPad to Samsung, but I think it just comes down to personal preference. I prefer the screen on the Samsung, and my phone is also Samsung so everything just flows.
JB - Do you use the reMarkable paper pro strictly for notetaking and then use the iPad for your schedule and productivity work? Or do you actually utilize the planner you designed on the reMarkable pro on a daily basis in regards to your schedule? I currently have both products. Thank you in advance for your feedback. Chad
Chad yes doing a video on just this; yes, I use the planner we created and notes on the rMPP - I was using the rM2 for this - then I use the iPad really for everything else. The enginners and designers are working on a new planner for 2025 specifically for the rMPP. Few minutes going to do a video on how I set up my rMPP for daily productivity. We have around 27,000+ users right now most on reMarkable :) Plus we have some major companies adopting our systems which is great. Thanks for asking!
My current tablet collection (hoard?) Boox Tab Ultra C Pro - My 10 inch tablet of choice, especially since I also have the keyboard/mouse combo. I had an iPad Pro, but my eyes just don't like the LCD screen, especially after staring at one all day for my job. Boox Tab Mini C - Portable version of the Ultra which I can throw into my EDC sling and have on my for note taking, reading, and basic tablet stuff. With the e-ink screen and notifications turned off, I have significantly cut down on my social media "doomscrolling". iPad Mini 6 - This goes in my camera bag. Paired with my Nikon D5600, I am able to take photos of marching arts groups (drum corps, marching band, indoor color guard/percussion/winds) and upload them to social media as soon as they finish performing. I can also use Affinity Photo 2 on the Mini to edit photos for more professional looking results. Boox Palma - "But, Kevin, you already have the Tab Mini C for reading!" This is true, but I like the form factor of the Palma, plus it's much easier to use one handed so I can scritch my cats' tummies when they crawl up on my arm for pets. I plan on getting the Boox Tab X as well. The 13.3 inch screen is what I need for reading sheet music, especially when playing outside like I just did at Oktoberfest. Sunlight and LCD screens don't do well together.
