This week we are looking to start Creance but waiting until we see signs that Woody will creance , here we catch Woody on the verge of thinking about coming for food, almost ready to start. How do you start creance do you have a different method ?
It always amazes me how they go back so many steps during the off season it's like they haven't a clue who we are and yet he is not one bit fazed by the Dogs moving about. I wonder will he be flying free sooner this year seen as you treated him different during the off season. As usual Pete a lovely video.
@@kilakila992kilakila2 Very true it is strange how the seem to go a bit wild. I thinks they got a memory of just a few weeks or that's what it can seem like. He may creance quicker but my thought is at a higher weight that's what I'm hoping for. Thanks and good luck as always, happy hawking.
I catch them up after the moult and weigh them. I then put them back and cut their food until they feed on the fist . As soon as they do feed I start walking them in fields and let them feed if they want. If they don’t feed I will continue to cut the food just a little bit more each day until they feed comfortably. I then start them on the creance until they are coming 30-40 yards pretty much instantly. Of course every bird is different so I just tweak it slightly. Great video Pete the time and effort you have put in has definitely paid off. A beginner would be hard pushed to find better videos from yourself and Dave sharp . 👏
@@NS-hy7gg I really appreciate you letting me know how you get ready for creance work, it's great for all to read. It's good to share knowledge that's what gets me excited, like minded people. And thanks for the compliment I hope the new to falconry will get something out of the videos. Good luck. 👍 👍👍
I'm enjoying your vids whilst I get started on my journey into falconry, plenty of reading some trips out with a local falconer and building my mews and weathering, whilst I increase my knowledge before hopefully getting my Harris next year. I have a question for you though if you dont mind? Did you stain your weathering? I've tried finding out but getting conflicting answers , dont mind leaving it "natural " just thought it would help the wood last longer.
@@jamespaterson4834 Firstly good luck with you Falconry sounds like you are doing well planning. The wood is treated already when new, I then use Rye oil I believe its used on decking, looks natural. If you use colours for fencing I'm sure water based is OK. Whilst hawk is weathering I treat mine occasionally. Rye oil can be found in 25 ltr containers on ebay or the Internet. Hope that helps. You will get conflicting ideas that's the nature of falconry and all sports and hobbies. Pick what's sounds right I guess.
Thanks for the reply, yes it does help , as I'd read conflicting views. I took inspiration for my mews and weathering from yours( not exactly the same but quite similar.) Enjoying your vids with woody , among others on YT , like Dave Sharpe, Dan Mercer and Ben woodruff and a couple others but find UK stuff is more relevant to me . Thanks again and good hunting .
