I found my cloths and used them for at least a few months along with liquid hand soap and still look almost new . For much of my life worked very hot dusty construction work and scratched them very much and now no longer doing that and now glasses by comparison soo much better off .

Using soap and detergents may not damage the lenses straight away but could make them more vulnerable to degrading coming off with robust cleaning.

Is it true that anti glare coatings flake off after about a year making them useless ? This has happened to mine but not sure why . I've heard if you wear them in very hot climates it can happen ( which I do live in hot south Texas which can get above 100 F ). And that's why I ordered my current ones without this but still shop did it anyway . But now about 13 months later still look almost new . No longer work outdoors like before

If they are a good quality coating, they shouldn’t automatically peel of with good care.

I disagree about what you said regarding washing up liquid since many people use washing up liquid to clean their glasses with no harm done to the coating of the glasses. In fact, many people claim washing up liquid and water is the best method to clean glasses.
    Otherwise great video.

Thanks for the thoughtful alternative perspective. I think you are right that you can successfully use washing up liquid, but it can weaken the coating so that with aggressive cleaning it may damage. It’s just whether you want to take the risk. It is also why the manufacturers may also warn not to do it. It’s kind of like the same reason why you shouldn’t brush your teeth after eating acidic food... the acid can weaken your enamel, making it easier to brush away until the acid has been neutralised.

I have used washing up liquid on my glasses and it damaged the lenses over time, so do the wrong cloths. UK

If Dawn damages the coating then it wasn’t a very good coding to start with.

The best way is to use mosquito repellent spray. Spray the lenses with a paper towel, and wipe off the excess. It'll fill in the scratches and nicks in the lenses too.
