NEW Porsche 992GTS and five reasons you might take it over the 992GT3

  • Car experts perpetually want to declare which is the best real world Porsche 911. They say the current base Carrera could be more aggressive, the GT3 needs to be less hard and they ask why a Turbo S costs more than the national debt.
    And while Porsche sticks to their two year product cycle it seems they listen because they’ve just given us a 911 which both adds and subtracts.
    this new 992 GTS has added aggression but has anything been taken away?
    And can it be better in any way than the car awarded the title of best drivers car 2022, the new GT3 ?
    Well my plan is to compare these two and to offer up 5 reasons why you may just want to take this GTS rather than that GT3.

    I have both cars a Carrera 4S and a GT3. They are completely different characters. A GTS is for traveling, from a to b, a GT3 is for driving out of your garage, have fun for two hours and drive right back into it. But those two hours are topped by absolutely nothing. A. GT 3 is a complete class by itsself.

    • @davidkn

      you dont have both cars though, you have a 4S, a 4S is not a 992 GTS, its a completely different car, especially in 4 form.

      Making any 911 a "4" moves it from "sports car" to "fast commuter" or if you prefer, wanna be rally car. A Carrera S also is almost, but not quite a GTS.

    I had until recently a 991.2 GTS with PDK and just upgraded to a 991.2 GT3 Touring. The GTS is fantastic, probably faster in a straight line, and comfortable. However, it left me wanting more. The GT3 gives that to me. It’s harder to drive and is a lot less practical and comfortable (bucket seats), but you can’t beat it for raw emotion, if that trade-off is worth it to you. I find the ride to be marginally stiffer and of course it sits lower. The steering is more precise and gives me much more confidence in the corners. Completely different cars and can’t go wrong either way. Btw love your videos. You’re very articulate and knowledgeable. And the rock music is cool.

    • @David-lt2fq
      @David-lt2fq 5 месяцев назад

      Agreed, except I think the road noise, suspension, and rpm range of torque usability as a daily driver in the gt3 is not optimal for most people. It is simply too extreme. As far as the comfort factor, ordered my 992 Touring with the 18 way seats and they are great. I love all the road noise, the suspension and rpm range, especially with the third pedal.
      If you are into that, the gt3 is awesome! Enjoy your car.

    The 911 is a car that gets under your skin in a way that if ever you own one and then sell it you just know you will want another. There really is one for everyone. The Turbo S just does everything, GT3 is an aural delight. The base Carrera is pure 911 and wonderful. The GTS is the absolute consummate all-rounder. But If I had to choose a body style to turn heads it would be the 992 GTS Targa 4. It might be the heaviest, but it will get you from A to B in style. That folding roof is really handy when you want to pack things in when touring too, it gives great access! If you are fit enough to get in and out, plus you can afford one it will be a car you will not regret buying! The perfect sports car.
    Graet video as always Roger!

Really had my heart set on a Targa non-GTS but that wasn’t about to happen anytime soon so the GTS coupe will just have to ‘do’ until I get a shot at theTarga. Roger, your video definitely convinced me that I will in no way be disappointed with this car. Thanks for your perspective and excellent video! I'm new to the Porsche family; I just picked up a '23 Cayenne GTS last November. It's exceptional. But I really want a new 911 before they go electric/hybrid, so I put a deposit to be on the waitlist for the next generation 992.2 GTS. It will give me a few years to live with the Cayenne before I trade it in. Likely going with the Coupe, RWD, PDK, Black Jet Metallic.

    The 718 GTS 4.0 seems the most desireable as far as a high performance everyday useable Porsches go. What it has ahead of the 992 GTS is the NA engine, which I don't need to explain, and the more compact dimensions, which makes it much more suited for regular (back) roads.

    Dear Roger , please comment on the comparison between a 2022 718 GTS 4.0 ( naturally aspirated , love the sound ) cab that I now own vs the 2023 992 GTS Cab with rear wheel steering , which would choose ? My 911 comes in at end of Oct 22 , I came up on the list a bit to my surprise early July . Both cars are made to my order White with red tops & Bordeaux red interiors, pdks , Great videos . By the way I’ve driven a few GT 3 ‘s including track laps in a 2019 Gt3 RS ( loved it ) , my GTS is at MSRP . Thanks Doc Steve

    Drop a detuned GT3 NA engine in the GTS’ softer platform and that’s the sweet spot IMO. GTS too similar to the S version

    I have a GTS coupe coming in in late October.
    Ordered with Normal PASM.
    Don't need an overly stiff ride in normal mode.
    Did I do the right thing?

    • @RogerBaileyOnCars
      @RogerBaileyOnCars  11 месяцев назад

      Hi Gordon, did you mean PASM vs PDCC? you have to buy rear steering to get PDCC so it gets expensive and in the real world only improves things by a small amount, real wheel steer is worth going for in my opinion, that said there isn't really a wrong set up here just slight variations of an excellent theme- Roger

    Would had been funny to see the reaction of your grandson in the GTS (boring, let's go back to the GT3 😉).
    Interesting video, but to me both cars doesn't really compare to eachother, because the purpose for both is different. The one is basically a race car (even the 992 touring as many complain) that you buy for weekend fun, while the other is more aimed to be a fast daily driver. I don't think anyone would take the GTS for track driving, if he had the chance to get a GT3 instead. So when you look at it from the purpose perspective, the comparison between GTS and Turbo/Turbo S might be better, since they also are meant to be daily drivers.

    Which GTS model would you recommend. GTS, GTS4, GTS4 Targa, or the GTS Cab? Would you get it in manual or PDK? What is the weight difference between them?

    • @RogerBaileyOnCars
      @RogerBaileyOnCars  Год назад +1

      Targa 4 GTS with PDK would get my money, GTS coupe is 200kg lighter and feels nimbler but the difference is only slight, they are all excellent and there is no wrong choice.

      I'm facing this choice. I've driven stick my entire life and I love the engagement, but the PDK is so precise. And I think I'm done using my left leg so much in a daily. I'm ready to relax while I'm driving "spirited".

    From what I've read and watched about the GTS for the last 6 or more months, it certainly seems to hit the spot.
    Not too powerful and not to average either for a 911. If there ever was an _"average"_ 911?

    • @RogerBaileyOnCars

      A bit probably, GTS is more civilised than a GTR & any small short fall in acceleration is made up by the GTS being able to put it down better, GTS a more accurate steer.

    What about the Cayman GTS? It is lighter and comes with the 4 litre NA engine. So you can use more of the performance more of the time and has some of the sound of a GT3/4. If you were to use the extra performance of the GTS over the standard S you would lose your licence anywhere except the autobahn.
