One of the highlights of my life is Rampal playing this in San Francisco while I sat on stage behind him (yes, there was on stage seating). Transcendent & unforgettable.

C'est magnifique de sensibilité et de douceur. Ce qui m'émeut également, ce sont tous ces commentaires venus du monde entier, et de savoir que tous ces gens, au-delà de leurs différences culturelles, sont ensemble et communient dans un même amour de la musique, de cette musique et des sentiments qu'elle porte en elle. Etonnant et tout à fait réconfortant. Merci.

Since my friend plays the flute in a local symphony orchestra, he took me to Mr. Baker's recital in Albany, New York, where we heard the Dance of the Blessed Spirits, the piece Mr. Rampal played in the video. I wonder what you mean by "revelation" and "inspiration." Whatever you mean by those words, Rampal was a virtuoso.

La musique, art le plus universel, art qui rassemble le mieux les hommes de partout, et pour le meilleur. Rampall était un musicien d'une classe extraordinaire. Il n'exécutait pas, il interprétait avec une sensabilité unique. R.I.P. (le disque craque un peu, et c'est sympa !)

Right from the very first note he put you under his spell, and never let go even when this little gem by Gluck is long finished. Perhaps he HAD the right to claim that only the French knows how to play the flute properly.
Le français est une langue "flûtée" les e muets, l'absence d'intonation, président à cette distinction. Pour autant tous les français ne sont pas de bons souffleurs loin de là. N'est pas Rampal, Marion, larrieu qui veut. La génération suivante est déjà bien plus standardisée.

Un phare dans la nuit. Il m'inspira et continue à m inspirer. Je me souviens d'une anecdote particulière. J'étais môme quand j'approchai pour la première fois le maître lors d'un concert. Je lui ai demandé, je m'en souviens bien, pendant l'entracte de jouer l arpegione sonata de Schubert. Alors qu'il jouait avec les frères Pidoux, j'entendis le violoncelliste dire tout fort. "Voleur". Sur quoi Rampal éclata de rires.
