Miata had a stock cast aluminum wheel that the higher models had, and that would look pretty sharp without having to go aftermarket.
The OEM seven spoke "daisy" wheels are a very popular option on these first gen Miatas. You're mistaken about there not being affordable cars that are rear wheel drive. Miatas are so much fun because it’s a perfectly balanced little roadster. A car you can easily use “all of”. (More fun to drive a slow car fast than drive a fast car slow)
What you have just spotted up in the sky (at the begining of the video) is a propeller airplane towing a glider. At a point when got high enough the glider disconnects from rope and continues flying independently. Rope brake point is usually arround 1500-2000ft or higher for safe return altitude. Once disconnected, glider starts climbing higher or just returns to airfield. Otherwise your videos are super cool! You guys are doing a great job on car cleaning and restauration. Congrats on the quality work you are doing! Julian.. from far Hungary 🙂
Ayyyeee, Miata owner here.. Gotta love the car lol, I used to be a hater years ago but I came around😂👌🏽 And the extra mat for the spare tire is to help with rattles. As you saw, there’s very little insulation in the car and things can get a bit noisy😅
I see it's 4 months since this was released but I've only got it now. Firstly it was a GLIDER being towed before release. Secondly the MX5 was what the logical upgrade from an MGB should have been. But as was usual British Leyland had their heads up their asses. You asked about spare wheel covers it was a 70s and 80s thing that was on upmarket cars of the eras. Maybe to keep contents mud free. Maybe just a trick of the lighting but that engine oil looked emulsified. Indicating a failed head gasket. I wouldn't have turned it without some form of lubrication down the bores.
When you have such clean bodies that the owner plans to keep it would be great to do some pt2 follow-up episodes on the progress of getting the car roadworthy again. This Miata would be such a great swap engine candidate.would love to know what they decided.
My wife has 2 miatas, a 99 silver base with automatic trans. and an 04 white LS with 6-speed manual - we love them both. You did a great job on the clean-up. Too bad it has an engine issue.
My wife has a 1991 red Miata she bought brand new before we were married. We still have it. All stock except for a new top with a glass window. Like this couple, ours sat in our garage in Phoenix for several years, twice, without being ran as while we raised our 3 daughters. I used to say I wanted to put a handle on the trunk and use it as a double stroller. It still runs today and only has 119,000 miles on it. And yes, since it has been painted, no reason not to toss those stamped wheels and get some nice custom wheels. But keep the same size/profile. Also, what did you put on the top to help preserve it?
i definitely wouldn't call the Miata overrated by any means. they're fantastic cars. it's the perfect sports car for somebody who really doesn't care about numbers on a piece of paper but more for the driving experience. as for the wheels you're asking if we would change them I would definitely get rid of those steelies which are stock and replace them with the OEM "daisies" at the very least. these cars are very sensitive to unsprung weight so I would at least grab a set of Konig hypergrams or RPF1s if you were going aftermarket.
I love a Miata. Even at 6'2" the car just fits like they made it for me. Not super fast, but great fun. Since the car is already not stock, having had a colour change, I would move to a nice 15 inch alloy wheel. Nothing stupidly large, but a little dressier.
ND Miatas are the newest iteration, and they're keeping the spirit alive as far as Miata experience goes. But prices are definitely way higher than they used to be!
Actually, when adjusted for inflation, the fourth gen Miatas actually came out cheaper than the first gen Miata's MSRP. That's an amazing statement on how well Mazda has kept this car affordable.

Iconic little fun things that proved you could enjoy cruising with little horsepower. They are starting to gain value on the used market because there's just nothing like it produced today. Some are even giving them the electrification treatment & I think it's smart because they are made for short trips.
I drive a 2018. It’s within 100 pounds of the original, but it’s about 151 hp. The new one is 181 hp. They now start at around $30,000, which isn’t much different, adjusted for inflation. They’re also incredibly reliable, and get great mileage. The MX-5 is the corporate name. It’s a Miata in the US, a roadster in some markets, and a Eunos in others. Some countries actually use the MX-5 name, and my 2018 only says MX-5 on the back, though Miata is still on the owner’s manual.
its MX-5 in Australia, right hand drive of course. My brother has a red 2017 model. No more pop-up headlights (bad for pedhestrians I think) but still looks cool and you can flick the stubby little gear stick with one finger.
I have owned 5 1st gen Miatas (along with several Corvettes, Camaros and Mustangs and many other things) and they are fantastic cars. I love them. Fun to drive and very reliable. The only issue with the 90 model is the short crankshaft issue. The crankshaft is not long enough to be flush with the crankshaft pully and the bolt that holds it on can loosen up and cause the pully to get wallered out. I love them. To answer your 2nd question, get rid of those steel rims. There are several factory Miata rims that look great on them and the 4x100 bolt pattern makes it a common size.
Glider and tow plane from Harris Hill which is nearby where you picked up the car. Big Flats...Horseheads, Elmira area. Harris Hill has a Soaring museum as well. The Harris Hill overlook has been a favorite "parking spot" for decades! Too bad it wouldn't start....needs wheels too!
I’ve got a pre production 1989 (1990 model year technically) Mazda Miata MX-5! One of the first 500 in the United States! I have all the original paper work, window sticker, pre delivery inspection sheet, and 2 sick Polaroids of the car the day it was delivered! The car is mint and it’s the most fun car I’ve ever owned to this day! Also for the leather cover for the spare tire, I believe its purpose is to protect stuff in the trunk from rubbing on the tire and getting stained or dirty.
I’ve had many fun cars and now I own a 99 Miata and it’s like driving a legal go cart on the road and puts a smile on my face. It’s fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

I have a 94 completely stock and if need to replace something always oem i love it like this! This is a nice clean up job!
Since the color has been changed I don't see any issue changing wheels
Miatas are so much fun because it’s a perfectly balanced little roadster. A car you can easily use “all of”. (More fun to drive a slow car fast than drive a fast car slow)
1:10 Btw That Is UAV Killstreak
My first car was a Mazda 323 coupé, from 1996. It was fast, loved It.
Wow, this car looks brand new! Really impressed with your restoration skills!
It's kinda grounding-ly amazing what a bunch of dudes with cleaning supplies can do, great job!
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍. Nice road trip ! Now Gens let’s get to work , LOL ! 🧼🪣🧽🕷️🐀
L O L !
Gotta love the car lol, I used to be a hater years ago but I came around😂👌🏽
And the extra mat for the spare tire is to help with rattles. As you saw, there’s very little insulation in the car and things can get a bit noisy😅
Okay!! Now that makes a lot more sense. I was just so confused when we were cleaning because if you got a flat tire, it’s just not very practical 😂
I wouldn't have turned it without some form of lubrication down the bores.
plane with a glider
When you have such clean bodies that the owner plans to keep it would be great to do some pt2 follow-up episodes on the progress of getting the car roadworthy again. This Miata would be such a great swap engine candidate.would love to know what they decided.
AWWW poor Frank! It's sad. I'm sorry.
Rest in paradise, Frank! 🤍
Frank,Now in heaven doing the funky chicken.😂👍
Rip Frank🕊️
This is maybe the best transition from wd
The lil Miata that could 😂
My wife has 2 miatas, a 99 silver base with automatic trans. and an 04 white LS with 6-speed manual - we love them both. You did a great job on the clean-up. Too bad it has an engine issue.
Thank you guys!! Absolutly love it and working on getting it running, again!
Ahh, you know da way of the Miata! Lmao!
Miata stands for: Miata Is Always The Answer -for those who don't know
Virtually any Mazda is fun af to drive, but a drop top too? I'm 100% jealous. And fly high, Frank. You were a really decent dude. ❤
plane towing a glider. I actually fly gliders here in ks quite fun!
i definitely wouldn't call the Miata overrated by any means. they're fantastic cars. it's the perfect sports car for somebody who really doesn't care about numbers on a piece of paper but more for the driving experience. as for the wheels you're asking if we would change them I would definitely get rid of those steelies which are stock and replace them with the OEM "daisies" at the very least. these cars are very sensitive to unsprung weight so I would at least grab a set of Konig hypergrams or RPF1s if you were going aftermarket.
Mr Koenigsegg has one an NA!!! Yeah really!!!!
REST IN PEACE FRANK 😭
I love a Miata. Even at 6'2" the car just fits like they made it for me. Not super fast, but great fun. Since the car is already not stock, having had a colour change, I would move to a nice 15 inch alloy wheel. Nothing stupidly large, but a little dressier.
First!!!!!!
I think Mike and RJ is the coolest there always working so hard 👏 and RJ shids the car TY ❤ y'all love y'all ❤️
1:15 that's a glider being pulled by a a tiny plane to have a little boost before the glider will fly on its own
👍🤌
Love the custom color, looks awesome with the car!
Second!!!
I had a Miata. They are like driving go carts as a kid. Very fun.
Under 24 hours
👇
Man! You guys do a great job! 👌
That's a place towing a Glider
ND Miatas are the newest iteration, and they're keeping the spirit alive as far as Miata experience goes. But prices are definitely way higher than they used to be!
Actually, when adjusted for inflation, the fourth gen Miatas actually came out cheaper than the first gen Miata's MSRP. That's an amazing statement on how well Mazda has kept this car affordable.
Hey guys, love the channel. Look forward every Saturday morning to seeing the next disaster detail.
After a great kickoff, I haven’t heard you all mention Puro on a video in weeks. I can’t even remember the last one (summer heat brain!). But I think it is really important for you to mention the products that you make, knowing all the hard work that goes into them. Keep up the great work!
Check the Chassis Rails for RUST! 👍🏻🏴🇬🇧
I bought a 91 for missus. Bought a hardtop for it too. I have some very fast cars but this is a blast to drive
I paid 500 for the top. Now I see them go aa high aa 2500! I was lucky!
Hi my brothers...❤❤❤❤Luv urs stuff all the way from SA...I had a similar almost 100% identical scenario with that type car...showing consistent psi on cylinders and a fowl empty gas tank..I first removed fuel filter..cranked her up direct ..started one shot then I replaced the online fuel filter car performed gud as new❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉Just a small heads up to tell those owners before mechanic can even remove head gasket my bros❤❤❤❤❤
Really love the colour of this, it came up great. I had my imported Eunos Roadster for 5 years daily driven, it was great 🤩
Aww, poor Frank! R.i.P. Frank!!!
Fantastic Work you Guys.
Great job mate. I have this very old dirty beetle car. I tried to keep it clean. I post videos on TikTok not mostly sometimes I do need you to clean my beetle car. It’s like super old like 17 years old.
I owned a 93 and also a 2012. Loved driving them.
❤❤❤ the color! I wouldn’t mind driving a Miata.
That's awesome, I have the same color and spec, bought it new in '91 and still have it! There were not many silver one's back then
Iconic little fun things that proved you could enjoy cruising with little horsepower. They are starting to gain value on the used market because there's just nothing like it produced today. Some are even giving them the electrification treatment & I think it's smart because they are made for short trips.
The MX-5's are great cars indeed. They're prone to rust, but great fun to drive when cared for.
I have one from 1992 same model in silver. 1.6 with manual transmission JDM. Love it!
I would love a miata, and I don't really care what year it is. I would love the mx-5, tho
I have a 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club. It's a great little car for cruising through the hills!
7:28 7:28 Glider and a Tow Plane, very cool. Don't see them very often. Used to be pretty popular in the 70s.
Love the car, just not much room for a sound system. Keep up the great work, love the vids 🤙
Miata is always the answer!
that would be a glider being towed by a plane with an engine
to get gliders in the sky they have to be pulled up by another plane, theyre then released and glide for up to a few hours, its pretty fantastic. i had the honour of getting to ride in one, its pretty quiet and a pretty surreal experience
