  • I have yet to make a good landing at this airport. It's rather short, has obstacles on both sides and has an unusual traffic pattern, not to mention the runway narrows half down the length. Well to day is the day I make that landing without leaving a good amount of my tires on the surface. The winds are swirling every which way, so stick around and see how I got on.

Thank you for this video. Sure like the Stinson 108s. Looks like you take very good care of it.

Ah, yes she's is my baby. I still need to get back to Harvey since they re-paved the runway.

What a cool video and great channel! Learned to fly at Harvey myself! I understand the struggle! That runway was a tad rough on top of narrow if I remember correctly. Keep up the great videos and flying!

Thanks for watching, The Stinson had a few problems this annual. So there hasn't been much flying. I have more on the editing table. But I'm not sure if they will be done before I leave for Oshkosh. Harvey has recently regraded and repaved their runway. I just haven't had a chance to land there,... yet!

This is interesting to see a pilots perspective of my home airport. I’ve only flown once and with my instructor & I made my first landing into Harvey. I also had no idea that’s what that green mailbox was for.

I'm glad you liked it. Harvey is becoming a favorite. Are you still doing flight training?

@@FreedomfixerFlying Yeah but due to covid I've had to shelve my training for later.

@@namedropper9237 if you were budgeting money for lessons keep that piggy bank going. These crazy times are just a bump in the sky. There is a reason for mascot on my glareshield. She reminds me that pigs do fly.

Freedomfixer_Flying Excellence advice, just like everybody else budgeting is apart of the issue. So I’m most definitely going to take that advise.

Nice footage, brought back some memories of flying for me. I got my PPL many years ago but haven't flown in probably 10 yrs. I will be visiting the Seattle area, which airports are good for doing a dual/sightseeing etc with an instructor? The scenery looks wonderful so doing some stalls will be even more fun

Boeing Field is always a good one, landing to the south has the best view of downtown Seattle. And of course any one of the San Juan's are like no other.

@@tgiflying on the near eastside I've only been into Renton, Puyallup and Norman Grier ( Crest ). Norman is probably the most challenging of the three, with trees all around.

I have watched a few of your videos now. Your landings are mostly fine, you tend to be hot, but that is correctable and I can tell you are working on that. Please try to tighten up your pattern. You are flying very deep patterns. Monroe, Langley, and Harvey are all too wide and deep approaches. There may not be anyone behind you then, but when the pattern gets busy, someone will cut you off.
A good example of what not to do: Fly AWO during the weekends in the Summer. If you are over I-5, you are WAY too deep.
I don't blame you, I blame your instructor (and whomever you are following).
OKH is my home field. Drives me nuts being behind someone that I lose sight of in the pattern because they are not in the pattern. Usually they have "FATPNW" sticker on the side of their plane, so I blame the parasitic drag from the sticker and Brice's forehead.
Your videos are great! good equalization with the music, lots of camera angles, good dialog, good insight. Keep them coming....just tighten it up, practice, practice, practice!

Hey Scott, Thanks for the observation. I must admit that the cameras mess with the perception. I reviewed the landing at Harvey. Almost all my downwind legs are between 1/2 to 3/4 mile ( a little less then halfway down the strut ) My base legs are usually short, sometimes a continuous turn. Yet at Harvey, I was out a ways, But it did give me time to get a very stable approach. As for the speed, I'm usually Wheel landing which requires a bit of power to keep the tail up. I'm usually at 70 mph on short final, which is 30% above Vso for the Stinson.
I do know what your re talking about with the traffic patterns. Regal and not ATP seem to fly those Space shuttle patterns. Yeah it drives me nuts too. I do appreciate the input.
