There is a verse in the Qur'an which says that Allah made bni Israel lost in the desert for 40 years. And many other verses in the Qur'an that indicates the number 40 is a famous number in Islam.

If everyone would stop believing in these antediluvian ideas for once, this world would be a far far better place in every aspect of life.
