  • Established in 1926, Rishi Valley School is an Indian boarding school, founded by the famous world renowned philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti. It is located close to Madanapalle, Krishnamurti's birthplace, in the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
Notable Alumni of this prestigious school include: Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, the sixth President of India, Varun Gandhi, son of late Sanjay Gandhi & currently a member of Lok Sabha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Indian actress & many other renowned figures
Rishi Valley is nestled in an ancient valley under the Rishikonda Hill where, sages, or in Sanskrit 'rishis', used to meditate. The school derives its name from these legends.
set in 375 acres of an independent valley, surrounded by Ancient granite hills with striking formations and tiny villages, Rishi Valley School has a holistic approach to education in the spirit of Krishnamurti's pedagogical vision. Rishi Valley was chosen by Krishnamurti for its atmosphere of peace and serenity, centered around a large banyan tree which was one of the oldest in India. This tree fell down in 2016. Not to forget the different varieties of trees, floral plants that dots the Rishi Valley school with elegant earthy space and a nip in the air making it pleasant throughout the year.
I kept pondering how this humble dwelling, had already made an impression. How nothing here seemed to be an eyesore, everything seemed to be in harmony. I stood there, imagining the learning and solace this place and school will continue to provide to seekers of knowledge and peace in the years to come. I imagined how Jiddu Krishnamurti may have found this place, in a distant past for imparting knowledge.
The buildings with the earth, the earth with the trees, the tress with the birds and squirrels, the birds and squirrels with the flowers, the flowers with the butterflies, the butterflies with the sky and the sky with the total space here. All seemed to be in harmony.
I wish to visit this place over and over again.
You will be amazed by what you could find here. I love this place very much. I used to visit this place since I was a kid every summer vacation with Our entire maternal side families n relatives. There were times when we all walked from my maternal grandparents village Kurabalakota to Rishi Valley, enjoying the lush green fields, mango orchards, tomato farms, hills and mountains.
Jiddu Krishnamurti who was born in Madanapalle in 1895 & founded this school, was a philosopher, speaker and writer. In his early life, he was groomed to be the new World Teacher, an advanced spiritual position in the theosophical tradition. He was subsequently raised under the tutelage of Annie Besant. During this time Krishnamurti had developed a strong bond with Annie Besant and came to view her as a surrogate mother. His father, who had initially assented to Besant's legal guardianship of Krishnamurti, was pushed into the background by the swirl of attention around his son. In 1912 he sued Besant to annul the guardianship agreement. After a protracted legal battle, Besant took custody of Krishnamurti.
During the 1930s Krishnamurti spoke in Europe, Latin America, India, Australia and the United States extensively.
When Krishnamurti was in India after World War II many prominent personalities came to meet him, including Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
In the 1970s, Krishnamurti met several times with then Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi, with whom he had far-ranging, and in some cases, very serious conversations. Jayakar considers his message in meetings with Indira Gandhi as a possible influence in the lifting of certain emergency measures Gandhi had imposed during periods of political turmoil.
Krishnamurti did not have allegiance to any nationality, caste, religion, or philosophy, and spent his life travelling the world, speaking to large and small groups, as well as individuals. He wrote many books, among them are The First and Last Freedom, The Only Revolution, and Krishnamurti's Notebook. Many of his talks and discussions have been published.
His last public talk was in Madras (now known as Chennai), India, in January 1986, a month before his death. Krishnamurti died of pancreatic cancer on 17 February 1986, at the age of 90 at his home in Ohai, California
His supporters - working through non-profit foundations in India, Britain, and the United States - oversee several independent schools based on his views on education.

WooW Congratulations Jayashree! You were at the best school of exceptionally high levels which automatically makes you one of the best. You represent the school now!
I have been visiting this school every year since I was a toddler. Each time I spent here I always felt great with much positive vibes. My eyes gleam with wide smile as I step into this place.
I believe this school nurtures children’s innate talents and help them figure out where those gifts, necessarily diverse, fit in the whole. I believe it’s home away from home that celebrates an interconnected, relational view of nature. When children start at this particular school Rishi Valley, I feel that their sense of themselves transforms. They begin to see themselves as the individuals they are - radically themselves and essential to the whole. They see that nature is lopsided, that nature has specialties. It’s a very different situation from sitting in a classroom and comparing yourself with other humans. I feel the land, the trees and the mother nature as a whole is teaching. It is healing us more than we are healing it. It makes us feel as if you are part of something bigger than yourselves.
It’s proven fact that experiences of nature, boost, academic learning, personal development, and environmental stewardship.
It is time to take nature seriously as a resource for learning - particularly for students not effectively reached by traditional instruction.
I must say Jayashree You are lucky to have studied in Rishi Valley, Kurabalakota, Madanapalle, Andhra. You are like neighbors envy owners pride😀
As the best is already a part of you I wish you always all the best for the present and future life.
Thank you zillions for your valuable comments 🤗💝

Your video gave my mind eyes again to the place I spent 7 years of my life at. 1991 to 1998. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to be exposed to JK but only began understanding his words when I turned 33. Today, I look back at the school as a temple. Thank you for the video. It brought back fond memories. I did see the banyan tree and also swung on its roots.

So happy for you that you could refresh your fond memories with this video. You are indeed fortunate to have studied in that prestigious school. It has something about the surroundings & the ambience that captivates you! & the banyan tree - I do have fond memories of that tree - having visited during my childhood days with my parents & played around it regularly. They have now put up those benches there which did not exist those days!

I fully agree with you. Thank you 🙏🏻
A school like this helps build lifelong skills and gives children a connection that may in the future support caring for their environment, as well as each other.
Rishi Valley School definitely is working with young children, finding ways to support not only their own connection with nature, but the children's as well, keeping in mind the significance of Education, future needs of coming generations and the academic excellence.
The natural world is one of the best environments for children to explore, absorb, and enjoy. It’s like immersion into nature. Nature provokes children into thought, action, and formulating their own ideas. It builds their self confidence. When children are involved in experiences with nature, they are absorbed and completely attentive to what is at hand. There are many advantages to all types of exposure to nature. Nature inspires. Nature is a positive encourager to physical as well as mental well-being. Nature provides a sense of calmness, patience and caring attitude. Children become observant and use their senses.
It generates empathy and also creates opportunities for children to work together.
Having the opportunity to seek education in a School like this is fortunate.
My best wishes always to KFI.

For all admissions you will have to get in touch with the school. Please try this number which I found on their website +91 85712 80044. Since you are based in Tirupathi, you may want to personally visit the school since Madanapalle is not that far from Tirupathi. Thanks for watching our video & wishing your son the best.

Can we visit the school casually? Or do we need permission?

    • @aroundtheworldwithzabeena
      @aroundtheworldwithzabeena  Год назад +1

The first check is at the main gate security - they will ask you for the purpose of visit. He will make you talk to the office staff & if they are convinced of your purpose (usually admission of self/kids) the security will allow you to go to their office. For you to do a tour of the school, the school needs to be having a break (summer break, or other mass holidays), if the school is running, they will not allow you for a tour. If it is a break period, the office staff will usually allow you for tour - only if your purpose of visit is to explore admission of self/family members. Trust this information helps.
