    Another act of generosity by you :) After spending weeks on my case study - kind of sick of it at this point haha - I'm very glad I just saw this video. It inspired me - or kicked me in the pants - feeling 'oh, yeah, I need to add 'context', 'validation' etc. Even though I don't have proper data or validation, it is so important to address it so that the audience knows you know its importance. I'd never heard of Useberry either. You are very good about giving little tips, stressing the important. Thanks again.

  • @edusantz
    @edusantz Год назад +1

    OK Ana, all you did is amazing, I just love the way you put all together, my question is, how long did you take to do all the project? And how many people help you out to get this data? The big problem for me today as an Senior UX Designer is the time, to do all this data, big companies for example they never give us this time to do that and sometimes the team does know how work like a team. People need to know the basics for sprint and a lot of UX´s dosn´t know how to do that and they call they self a Senior. By the way, great video. Keep going!

    • @anfisign
      @anfisign  Год назад +2

      Hi, Eduardo.
      Thank you for watching it. I'm unsure if this comment is referred to me or some other designer (because I'm not Ana).
      But anyways, it took approximately 3 months for research and design and then 3 months for support and communication (where I was passively checking on the progress, but not participating).
      Since I was the only designer (it was a freelancing project), all the data was researched and collected by me. In terms of users, we had about 10 qualitative user interviews at the beginning of the project and around 300 quantitative unmoderated usability tests at the end of the project (you can see how many tests were initiated at 12:49 timecode).
      But I totally understand your pain, I worked in the product company setup for the last 4 years and indeed it takes a lot of energy and leadership support to build a team's UX maturity. I've worked in 3 different organizations (from 600 people to 12k people) and each one was very different in approaching user research and data analysis. It's definitely not a warrior's job to enable an effective UX process in the company. If the company is 1-2 UX maturity levels (using NN/g classification www.nngroup.com/articles/ux-maturity-model/), then it's pretty much impossible to change the culture on your own (unless it's an early-stage startup). But if the company is 3-4 levels of maturity, then you have a voice and the power to shift the needle (aka if you have leadership support). I took a really helpful NN/g masterclass called 'The One-Person UX Team" (www.nngroup.com/courses/one-person-ux-team/). It's full f tactics on how you can integrate better UX processes in place if you have the support of your manager and they could cover the cost for you, I'd really recommend it.
      I hope it helps a bit!
      And lots of power to you on the way to improve things.

    Nice presentation! but I have a question. Did you use this pitch concept portfolio to apply for this very job role you got or was this just a presentation you specifically made for the interview process? I have a potential 2nd stage interview that will require me to walkthrough my portfolio but I don’t have my case study portfolio this way, it’s a website portfolio by the way.

      @anfisign  2 года назад +8

      Hey, Ikenna. I'm sorry I missed your message. I'm sure you've already landed your dream job by now.
      But to answer the question for anyone who might be wondering too. This is the presentation, particularly made for a 'case study presentation' stage.
      I've made it out separately from my CV or website. You can still use website, but as you might understand website format for storytelling presentations is not the most suitable one.

Anyway I have 2 question if you free to answer i would be so appreciate. 1st if the feature i developed was a new feature that never launch on product before so how should the story telling on portfolio be? since i can't compare old and new. And 2nd If my work have none of testing, like no business metric, no data results, no time to test by myself, everything is just design following requirements-review-redesign again. How can I put it on my portfolio? Right now every pieces of my work kind of design as CEO want with no exact plan (I tried but no he doesn't care)

      Sure, it's a SUS (system usability scale) survey. After each usability test, I ask users to complete a survey with 10 questions and then calculate the results. Mind that you need at least 10 people to complete the survey, and preferably right after going through the flows (you cannot just send them a survey link at a random time).
      You can read more about it here.

The issue is that during the registration process, there was a message mentioning that I should expect the email in 2 mins or so; which in fact didn't happen. I got the template on Figma but couldn't download it, weird right 🤔?! Do you have any idea why this happened?! Thanks for your consideration 😊

      @@emanyahia9940 That’s indeed very strange. I haven’t seen any delays so far with the email, but I’ll need to investigate with the email client provider.
      As for a Figma download, it must be a separate topic. What the error message says when you try to duplicate the file? Maybe you can reply to the email with a screenshot? I never saw issues with project duplication.

    So should I just not include something like persona, storyboard, affinity mapping screenshot, etc. at all? Or should I briefly go over them? (So still including them in the slide deck but just dont spend too much time on them)

    • @anfisign
      @anfisign  Год назад +1

      Great question!
      To answer it, just think how these artifacts contributed to a story? If you have an answer how, then it totally makes sense to include them.
      For example, will this storyboard (for example) tell a story of how you were thinking of the solution? Was it helping you to move towards the final solution? If yes, then you should totally include it.
      But if the answer is “I’m not sure how this persona connects with the problem or solution (or it feels like you did it to just tick the box) then it’s better to not spend a page on it in your case study.
      Hope it helps

    • @anfisign
      @anfisign  Год назад

      Thank you for watching and for the feedback ❤️
      Would love to know what exactly would you want to know about these design outputs?
      If you’re curious whether they were a part of the process, then the answer is yes for some. Every project is unique and depending on the factors like timeline, resources, impact-effort, importance, these would form the process and steps.
      In this project we didn’t base our decisions on one or two personas. Simply because it’s a food ordering service, people from dozens of segments order food and not one of them is more important/strategic than the other. So for this project we were basing SOME priorities on the user stories and JTBD. In terms of UJ, we used these user stories from research and mapped them down in the form of UJ, but it wasn’t the most impactful part of the prioritization. For project like this, heuristic evaluation was more credible source of prioritization, hence I’ve included it in the presentation (and not the UJ story mapping).
      In order to make case study presentation engaging for the audience, it’s important to frame the project around the key insights and solutions that tell the story, not report the process. So, some parts of the process I had to remove from this presentation deck.
      Hope it answers your question ❤️

      Anything specific? I mean, I'd definitely go for it if I shape a story that I need to tell. Infographics is a powerful tool, which can be used to make people think a certain way (by presenting the information in a way that's needed). This is just a case study template, but of course, the project has to be done on your side before. And depending on the case/problem/goal you might have passively collected data, secondary researched data or first hand collected data (Al qualitative research) that I really advice to do in any project.
      Otherwise any design is often more art, than design.

    Hi, I have a few questions, does this still apply for UI design too? And what did you create this presentation on? Lastly, do you send this in when you’re applying for the job online or is this something that is shown in person once invited for an interview? Thanks :)

    • @anfisign
      @anfisign  Год назад +2

      Hey, thank you for the amazing questions.
      1. I'd say that whatever you've worked on would reflect the story of your process. So, if you're a strong proponent of design thinking, then you can definitely use this template for UI case studies. However, I'd definitely replace most of the copy with visuals and let it speak for itself.
      2. I use Figma for everything, including this presentation.
      3. No, absolutely no. Definitely don't send it during the first stage of the application. Like I've mentioned at the beginning of the video, it's made for a case study presentation (typically 30-45m) when you're talking about your process in depth and your goal is to communicate your thinking process.
      In the early application stages, your goal is to stand out and impress by telling a quick engaging story. 45 slides are definitely not a quick and engaging story ☺.
      Hope that helps!

      UX industry requires continuous studying. I've studied for 8 years in 3 different universities, got NNg certification, took dozens of courses and books, and keep studying every month.
      So, the question is what are you trying to achieve studying right now? If the goal is to build a strong fundamentals then the course I'm running (intoux.design) will be the best place to start from. It covers everything you need to know with case studies and templates in 35h content curriculum.
      But if you're trying to improve any particular design vertical (e.g. quantitative research, design system thinking, workshops running, etc) - then let me know and I can share some resources I found useful.
