Good choice picking Unifi! I've installed their equipment in multiple warehouse locations where I'm at and never had any issues. If possible, even though these do have the rubber grommets for water intrusion I recommend throwing some dielectric grease on the outdoor camera connections to guarantee nothing gets into the cameras. Best of luck installing more in the future!
Greg I started watching you 3 years ago and it's good to see you're doing well, I just officially started building my first gaming pc and it's going good really helped out watching ur videos to get some more knowledge on building them :)
Hi Greg, Thanks for your reply. My three cameras are using a Wi-Fi connection, Spectrum. I now understand why my cameras behave this way. Your house will be beautiful when it's finished. I'm envious of that three-car garage because I only have a two-car.
Hey there. I appreciate it! Our house was actually finished several months ago and we’ve videos on the channel already documenting the move and security system setup :-)
Ubi hardware is great for someone that needs very well integrated system without constant need to tweak it out. Kind of a category of "its just work". Good pick for your friend.
YES! Very nice initial UniFi set-up. Ive only recently got into Ubiquiti but it seems like a (good) rabbit hole. Such a good platform... when ignoring the price tag 😅
Damn, this reminds me of the pain of security video systems. The biggest I built had over 200 1080p cameras and three large servers for storing the video. It was a pain but the system allowed you to tag someone visible on one camera and it would track them switching between cameras as they moved. This worked in real time or looking back at recorded video. In total it was pretty nice when it worked, but the customer had to have someone keeping track of the servers so they could swap drives going bad or fans that wore out. The power supplies were redundant so they had spares for those, but I can't remember them ever needing them. But the networking was pretty complex when you had over 200 cameras and they recorded 1920 x 1080 video simultaneously. I worked on some smaller systems but they were often used for very sites with very high safety requirements. I'm happy I'm not working with those anymore.
Hey Greg. I’m about 90 min north of you. I’d be more than willing to let you come setup a home security system at my house. 2 story home. Garage. All we have now is a blink doorbell camera and a small low quality blink camera inside in our kitchen. I really want a complete system. To cover our back yard, garage, office, bedrooms, etc. Hell I’d even help you film if you want. If you ever get a sponsor or something I’m not too far from you here in Florida. I also work in IT but I’m also a bit of a networking noob. I’m very willing to be a gracious guinea pig. Would help my family be more secure as well. 😁😁😁
I think there's a misunderstanding here. These cameras are linked up via the local network. They do not rely on Spectrum whatsoever, and they are not "pulling" bandwidth from my other devices. This is by design.
I found Eufy wireless Solar cameras that have AI follow feature and can rotate left/right and up and down and track someone walking around. So, with just two cameras I can cover the front of the garage and the front of the house. They have a great doorbell camera that has voice AI and also a package camera with notifications when a package is dropped. The outside cameras run off of solar power and batteries, so no wiring required. The doorbell camera can be hard wired which is what I did, or battery powered. Been very happy with Eufy. I have an indoor camera that can also rotate and follow to check up on my dog.
Only problem with these is that many of them require some sort of subscription since footage is often stored in their cloud. With UniFi everything is local. Much preferred IMO.
Hey Greg, did you have to spoof the Mac address on the Router for spectrum? Just wondering as I had to do this here in Mo. when I replaced their Router with a third party one.
What’s up with the audio language issue?? - EDIT! Only happened on the AppleTV app, it seems normal on the iPhone app. Couldn’t change it to English on the tv.
Hey Greg, Du sprichst Deutsch! Das wird Deine Frau, Schwiegermutter und den Rest der Familie aber freuen. Aus den anderen Kommenteren entnehme ich, dass Du inzwischen auch noch Spanisch gelernt hast :-)
The lag on the PTZs are awful. I can't walk by it at a normal pace without if pointing straight down and losing tracking. I do like the light though, its perfect for where i need it.
@@GregSalazar I sent in a ticket about pre-set position movements and manual movements being interrupted when first moving it while person auto tracking is on (causing the need to press the pre-set number or direction arrow twice. easily repeatable and very annoying) but that was months ago and it still hasn't been addressed. When they were able to replicate the issue they said they'd send me a T-shirt, but that never came either :(. Even still i love my Unifi system.
I wish I had a friend who could hook me up with UniFi gear! 😛 I have a UniFi setup myself, but some of their hardware doesn't come cheap. I'm looking at you, future Switch Pro Max 16/24 PoE 😅
